I don't want to make the post title sound too dramatic but I feel like I'm at a crossroads. I'm gonna make a very long story short. I also don't want this to sound like a bunch of excuses. This is the story as it happened and the reason I'm telling it is to show I've tried many times.
2019, I discover MJ DeMarco. Get really excited. I started a web design/marketing business and it goes okay. Enough to pay the bills but not scaleable and having trouble getting new clients. Get the ball rolling with a new client who referred me to two other ones in 2020 and COVID hits. Everything stops.
Got very lazy. Tried web design once more. A few clients but too little. Start a job out of necessity in 2021. Stay in that place for almost 2 years as I save up money and make trial runs for business ideas. Among those being a product that could possibly speed up scanning inventory by a lot and a supplement product for people who couldn't tolerate onions with a very vocal community. Each product is a long story each but essentially, all duds or close to impossible. There was an idea I had also that had such a huge $$ barrier to entry I'd have to take out a bunch of loans for a more than likely subpar product (it was a sort of niche Uber service). I quit that job to get a job in sales in 2022 and I'm making more money than I ever have.
Fast forward to 2023 and at this point I'm excited. I'm making a lot of income, saving/investing and planning to move out. As I'm starting to get my ducks in a row, I keep the Fastlane in the back of my mind. Then the summer came and I got extremely sick. My life fell apart in the blink of an eye. Hospital, seizures, a near death experience... IT essentially put everything in a halt and basically have spent about 2 years in recovery on and off due to medications, a surgery and not being able to drive on doctor's orders. Got a security job at the tail end of 2024 when I could finally drive all the way up to about 4 months ago. Now, they took me off seizure medication so I had to stop driving once more. However, I can begin driving in January 2026.
Now, I am where I am. I'm still living with my parents at 29. Barely making money. I had it all planned out for Q4 in 2025 but something happened where I didn't get the job I was told I already had, so I've been trying to do sales without being able to drive through cold calls. It feels like all this effort has been a long trial run. I feel like almost every endeavor I tried ended up in failure.
This isn't entirely true. I'm much healthier now, thank God, and I'm incredibly grateful for that. I started marketing my music this year since I had so much spare time and ended up making a decent fanbase that is asking for my band to play shows. I wrote a book and fully revised it 2 times and have submitted to publishers. It hasn't been unproductive. But in terms of securing my future, I feel like I'm nowhere.
I'm not here to ask for pity but genuine advice. I feel like I'm starting from scratch and learning to walk again (it's been a long 2 years since my 2023 sickness). I just don't know what to do. There's so many things, so much stuff I'm worried about and so many paths I could take. Should I do sales? Or take a more stable job so that I can get steady income? I wanna move out by the start of next year and I'd like to make enough money to save up and invest further. But man, I just don't know where to focus on.
Here's my (possible) Fastlane assets as I see them:
-I'm making some passive income on a house me and my dad worked on. Took a loan to get the house back in shape but it's slowly paying off.
-Thankfully, I've made good investments throughout the years so I have about $10k in growing assets. Not touching this but I do have it there.
-I've proven to myself that I can do marketing. I at least have that under my belt.
-I proved to myself I could make good relationships with people through sales.
-I have some pre-approved loans and my credit is excellent. But I'm not taking a loan unless I fully believe in an idea.
That's about it... I'm not asking for business ideas or anything like that. Just for some feedback and possibly some guidance. I don't wanna live paycheck to paycheck and I feel like I've been spinning my wheels. I don't wanna give up, though. Anyways, thank you all for your help throughout the years. Merry Christmas!
