Through trial and error, I have realized a few things about this forum. Watching what and how people post, and how people respond.
When you are new :
People are less interested in your critiques, and more interested in you. What's your story? If you are new here, and you haven't posted an introductory thread, do it. Introductions & Networking You will see newbies here that offer aggressive opinions. If we know who you are and where you are coming from, there's a better chance your posts will resonate and be respected. Introduce yourself.
When you have been here for two years but never posted anything:
It's time to add value. If you have been creeping here for two years, you have not only gotten a ton of free information, but this place thrives on giving back. If you are here for two years and you're still action faking, get off your a$$. If you are here for two years and you "read but don't post" --- start posting. Stop being a mooch and contribute to the discussions.
How to gain Reputation Speed:
You should want rep speed if you are a regular reader here at the forum. Not because it's a popularity contest, but because it signifies you are giving back to a community of posters that hopefully you value. So... how do you get rep speed?
Rep speed from what I have witnessed has to do with your personal engagement and sharing of life experiences. The people who I have seen take dramatic jumps in rep speed typically have shared something that makes a difference from their own life experience.
I can share a cool article here, and maybe get a half dozen "likes" but no rep speed. Why? Because as good as the article was, it took me little effort to cut and paste it. There is one of the more prolific posters here who aspires to have as many likes as he has posts, so at least he knows that he is not just posting shit that nobody likes. So... he's mindful of adding value and trying to maintain a 1-for-1 relationship between posts and likes.
Rep speed comes from value. You add value by sharing your own wins and losses. There are a lot of disagreements on this forum, but very few arguments. That's a huge distinction between this forum and many others that I have seen. It's cool to disagree (even ::gasp:: MJ is wrong some times) but the tone around here is generally one of understanding, not contention. You will see contentious people get ignored around here, and they usually leave when nobody takes their bait. That or we kick them out, ban their IP address, and sentence them to a life of insignificance on Reddit or the Warrior Forum.
You get out what you put in. Rep speed comes from investment. You can be a total newbie, but gain rep speed with a single post. There's a newbie on the inside that has been here for a few days and has a rep speed that will reach 100 shortly. Have you been here for 2 years but are parked? Add value. Give me something that can open my eyes, change my trajectory, or teach me something I didn't know.
Post a class list for online eClasses? Get some likes.
Host an INSIDERS call (i.e. teach a class to our INSIDERS?) Get more rep speed than you have gotten since you joined.
Post an article from Fortune Magazine? Get a few likes.
Write a blog post here about your business startup? Get some rep speed AND advice from people that just might know a few things about what you are facing.
See the difference? It's a level of engagement and investment. You can have 500 posts of bullshit here and nobody cares. You can also have one thread of significance as a newbie, and from that gain a reputation of value that will follow you around the other threads. Post substance.
We want you to hang around here. This place gets a ridiculous amount of visitors per month, and has a loyal regular crowd also. The amount of visitors we get is overwhelming compared to the activity. The page views is crazy high. People are absorbing what this cool forum has to offer. I personally am aware of DOZENS of businesses that have either started from scratch while people were here, or were fueled with help from people here coming along side entrepreneurs.
You take out what you put in. If you are just here taking, it's time to start adding value. If you want help, give help. If you want speed... add value.
