If you think about it as "networking" or "working a room," it can seem daunting. But if you think at every networking opportunity "I am going to meet two interesting people and that's it," it gets a lot easier. By the end of the weekend, you will have met a ton of people.

This always works for me and I am an intj and extreme introvert.

Here are some scripts if you want them:

"Hi, I'm _____, is this your first time at the summit?"

"Hi, I'm ______, I do ______. What's your business?"

If it seems that everyone is already talking to someone and that everyone knows everyone else, just walk up and say hi to the dude standing against the wall pretending to be really busy on his phone. He is just checking ESPN and desperately wishing he wasn't so shy. You'll have a friend for life.

lmao i walked up and used both of these lines last time and was corrected and told not to use these lines as everyone is using these lines and no one wants to repeat themselves 20x

It is probably best to ignore advice from someone who a) critiques how you introduce yourself to them and b) can't be bothered to introduce themselves repeatedly at a networking event of like-minded people.

The "line" you use to introduce yourself almost doesn't matter (unless you say something insanely stupid or pitch an MLM opportunity). It is the ACT of reaching out to another person that matters. When reach out to introduce yourself to someone you don't know, there is some risk of rejection. The actual risk is very slight, but some people perceive this risk as much higher than it actually is. What you described is probably about the worst case scenario ("don't use that line and I don't want to repeat myself"). If you encounter someone like that, just smile, do your best not to laugh at them, and move on.

In case my previously-suggested lines aren't good ones, here are some others that could work to start a conversation:

"Hi."
"Where are you from?"
"How was your trip here?"
"What did you think of the last talk?"
"It is awesome to be in Arizona in February. I haven't seen the sun in four months."
"How about those Bears/Bulls?"
"Do you come here often?"
"I like Taco Bell."

It kind of doesn't matter. Just reach out. This isn't rocket surgery.

I think people are really overthinking this. It is a small group of very cool like minded people. Talk to them.

Unless... it is.

Thank God @snowbank told me at the first meetup I ever attended that my idea wouldn't work.
Yeah if you are sensitive, I'm not the guy to talk to either. However, if you lose the sensitivity you can get some real good advice out of anyone, esp those vets that have been there and done all that.

I'd rather piss someone off but make them think then to blow smoke up someone's butt to be polite.

That said... No one will be an actual a**hole, is really easy to insert yourself into conversations. Most folks have questions for the speakers, and that alone spawns large conversations.

If anyone really has issues being introduced find me, find Allen(@AllenCrawley), find Boris (@TheTruth), find Steve ( @kungfusteve ), find anne or John (usernames?), Find Jill (username?)... Etc

These folks are all extroverts that have extensive people skills that are very open and friendly and have been to this many times. There will be a bunch of vets there but these few that I can think of off the top of my head that are very easy to approach.

By the end of the event, you shouldn't have problems talking to new people.

@Arrabista will make it pretty easy to hob nob and network with everyone.

He's a pretty good ice-breaker as the 1st speaker.

LOL, what was it?

He wanted to sell leads to limo companies in a dying industry. ;)

Can anybody from past attendees tell me if it's worth it to stay at the resort? I dislike staying in hotels and greatly prefer Airbnb, but maybe I'm not seeing some great benefits here.

Absolutely stay at the hotel. I always prefer staying in apartments but you don't want to miss a moment of the relationship building.

I'd say it's the optimal option if you want to get the most out of the event socially, and the hotel looks pretty great.

That's the whole point of having it at TSR. It's a resort and casino, not just a hotel.

In years past, it was just held at nondescript hotels in nondescript locations, not withstanding Best Western. At the end of the event, people would venture out all over the valley and the group would splinter. At TSR, there's no need to leave the entire 3 days.

So it looks like this event was just rescheduled to Saturday Feb 17th, the date of our event.

Screen Shot 2017-11-14 at 10.40.17 AM.png

That means if you haven't booked your hotel room, you should PRONTO.

This also means we can expect a packed house on that weekend, and a partying crowd.

Maybe it's only me, but when someone mentions 'Resort', I get all tingly inside. Throw in the 'Casino' part and all I hear is 'Adult Disneyland.'

Oh, the networking sounds awesome, too.
