As an entrepreneur, I did not always have an orderly framework of work.
My days looked different from each other and my routine was interesting and busy.

A problem I faced when I wanted to lose weight was consistency,
I started weight loss processes and I would give up too early,
I had a hard time keeping to my diet because I did not have a regular schedule,
I tried it again and again in several forms of diets throughout my life..
I finally felt unconfident about myself and the process,
I am a person who has achieved a lot of goals in his life and for some reason,
I struggled with weight to the point that I lost confidence in myself and the process and almost gave up.

Have any of you experienced things similar to what I am describing here?
And if so, did you solve it?

Counting calories worked for me. Nothing works for me until I do something surely works. That is my style in dealing with issues.

Thanks for the reply!
So you really counting every single thing you eat? for how long are you already doing it?

Whenever I stop counting I stopped losing. For more than Two years. I would say when my work gets busy I lose counting. Now my weight is more or less in the healthy range but for sure I still Want to lose more fats.

There is an app called my fitness pal. They will give you a good estimate. I am based in Singapore and we mainly eat outside. But still the calories for the local food can be found there. An standard asian food with two vegetable and one meat with rice is 6-700 calories. 80-150 for tea/coffee, depending on sugar level.

I would say the biggest turning point for me is to realise that I have to count the calories.

Most “diet books” that avoid counting do not work. Because if you are the type of person who can get lean with just rules of thumbs means you do not have a food problem. And if you are not lean and overweight most likely you have a food issue-like overeating when stressed or just like to eat. A more strict monitoring regiment is required.

Of the time you will learn how to choose food, basically calories dense food that give you a lot of calories without making you full are so called bad food or known as “junk food”. The so called good food can make you full with less calories.

Exercise is one of those things that's critical to life itself and longevity. Have to prioritize it and realize that it's just as essential to your day as making your bed, drinking water, and having breakfast.

As far as diets go... I much prefer to look at it as a way of life. To engage in a diet only to give it up some time later and watch as you slowly undo the results of the consistency you had... it seems fruitless. Perhaps getting yourself to eat right and exercise is very hard at first, but it is one of the easiest things to maintain.

I am a self-employed person selling financial products for insurance companies and mutual funds.

I would say I didn’t find “a method that works for me”. I simply stopped flirting with “next hottest nutrition composition” and do “what surely works”.

Calories counting surely works for everyone so it is impossible to fail. It is based on the law of physics. I do not like unpredictable results based on nutrition composition because you can still
1) fail by over-eating the same composition
2) You can never know the impact of none-adherence, whereas calories counting you know exactly how well you adhere each day.

No body fails to lose weight in calories counting if they count. No progression is always due to failure to count.

I see a very clear connection between ones health and discipline. You need to find a diet that gives you satisfaction and is healthy at the same time. Because if it is not satisfactory you will quit at some point. For me it was the "paleo"diet. Basically you cut out processed food and unhealthy carbs.
I had the same struggle with loosing weight although i was never really that fat. But what i can tell you is that it is important to have discipline in your diet because its the same discipline you transfer to your life and also entrepreneurship. Instant gratification for example with highly processed foods or high sugar content food will not only deplete your nutrition in your body but will also make you sick and lazy in the long run. And then also the healthy food does not taste as good anymore and you're stuck in a downward spiral. you condition yourself to get that instant dopamine release and thats very bad. In entrepreneurship where you have to be disciplined and stick to a project for a relatively long time without any results this can be a negative influence. So basically my advice is you just have to create the willpower to discipline yourself and stick to your plan. It will be easier if you find a diet that gives you satisfaction while being healthy in the long run.

I Walk/run everyday @5am for 1 hour (before my 8-years-old little monster wakes up).
In the beginning it sucks, then you get used to it, and eventually, you need it like a fish needs the ocean...
My advice? Just. Do. It.

I asked no questions, I did not look for the perfect program, I did not listen to my inner thoughts, tiredness, boredom etc.

Yes I struggled with weight for years. There was a decade where every year I put on 5 lb. That eventually plateaued, but it was so hard to reverse. I finally managed to do it when I cut out sugar, increase veggie intake, and adopted intermittent fasting. I started off 16/8, but once I got used to it I sometimes even did whole day fasts. Lost 40 lb. For the most part I've managed to keep it off for 2 years, although I did gain 15 through covid, and I've lost 10 of it, again with the same adjustment to diet.

What do you think is the reason you gained 15lb during COVID?
