Nice study on "charm pricing"

gumroad-charm-price-testing.jpg

via Pricing psychology: 6 ways to influence perceived value
I wonder how this works with business owners and higher prices.

I often don't tell people it's say $599/mth, preferring instead to tell them it's $600/mth. I'd feel stupid saying it's $599 to a business owner when we both know it's $600.

It's like when they do the silence thing on me and I do it back. It gets a bit silly when you both know about it.

I can't believe I'm commenting with brain donor facebook tier celeb gossip, but does anyone else kinda feel bad for the Full House chick?

She seems to be getting railroaded for something we poor folks assumed to be common practice at elite universities.

I'd hate to see anyone go to jail just for giving their kids every advantage they possibly can.
yeah, I don't know why this is something prosecutors decided to go after. You can bribe the university itself by donating a building to a campus and get your kid in that way, but heaven forbid you should bribe an individual. "That's just immoral"

I can see the logic in it, but its a stretch.

Maybe this is a very public way of saying, "nope, buy us the building." She stands accused of cheating in a rigged game.

yeah, honestly, I find the government's behavior in this more disgusting than what these people were doing. They're ruining people's lives over, what exactly?

Interesting treatment!

Nice find. It looks like it works similarly to TDCS and TMS, using the field effect to change action potentials across neuron membranes. But surprisingly, they seem to think it inhibits amyloid aggregation too. If the design they're using can do that without the inconvenience of TDCS (electrodes stuck to your scalp) or the risks of current TMS equipment (seizures), that's really good. The research is fairly young but I'll be following it.

It might depend on how "personal" the talks are and how savvy business owner is.
When you talk like real person with real person then saying 599 would sound awkward indeed.

If you have sales page that potential clients visit without convo, then it might have desired effect.

Good point. I don’t have a sales page and saying 599 is indeed awkward.

The Bugatti Chiron is priced at USD $2,998,000

Prices ending in odd numbers are perceived as value buys.

Even are quality.

I'm trying the $xx8 price. Owners get annoyed at it, so I'll probably change it back.

These marketing triggers work even if you know about them. I have been wanting a pair of Goodr Sunglasses for running for a while. They are $25 (not 24.99) but I would never pull the trigger to buy a pair. They made a race series of 4 4-milers and called the Sweet 16 and the premium was, you guessed it, a pair of Sweet 16 Goodrs. So I balked at $25 but gladly paid $128 for four races and a 'free' pair. One sample from page 1:
Dog Training: The Revolutionary 4 Step Process To Train Your Puppy Along With Its Development Into A Dog

Lest the cover isn’t sufficient warning, here’s the first sentence from the Look Inside:

Puppies are an alternate species over we need aid.
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Priceless.

On the flip side, I once did an exercise where I built a spreadsheet that logged 25 or 30 of the common characteristics of the book covers on the top 50 bestsellers, like the placement of the title (top vs bottom), whether it was a serif or sans serif font, the use of a photograph vs an illustration, the font color, centered vs left-aligned, and so forth. It's interesting how many things GOOD book covers have in common.

After doing that, I felt like I had a much firmer grasp on winning design characteristics that I'd ask a designer to incorporate if I ever published a book. Can't find the spreadsheet now, or I'd share... but it was also a few years back, so I'd want to do it again if I was publishing a book now.

Thanks for the hilarious share!

I have only checked the first 3 pages. Some of these are hideous, but I like Stardust Destinies I's cover a lot, unfortunately the title is as terrible as the rest of the covers on the site.

I never thought I'd get to see the Perfect Cover, but here it is. MJ you should consider contacting whoever made this cover for your next book

Just ranting about our credit rating system. 800+ credit goes down to 690, because I paid off a loan. Ironically, I paid off the mortgage so that it would lower my debt to income ratio so that I could apply for a new mortgage. Guess I need to wait a month or two for it to pop back up.

Less than a month and my credit score has shot up.

Been taking up more Finance units in college, and also reading a lot more on the markets, dealing with margin, futures, and other stuff a lot more than when I first started out.

Now the last part on the paycheck pot in UNSCRIPTED makes a lot more sense, when the lingo becomes more understandable.

However, for a college investment report assignment, I went to do research and I found some subreddits, one which was r/wallstreetbets

I came in to r/wsb to find a den of speculators throwing away student loans at poor option bets, using 'box spreads', and most recently, gaming a poor algo or UI weakness in the RobinHood app for free money to blow on more speculations....

The latter was recently featured on many news sites..even CNBC.
Here's one of many threads on the matter:
https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/comments/drqaro View: https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/comments/drqaro/robinhood_free_money_cheat_works_pretty_well_1/

I was frowning while considering eating popcorn at the insanity...is this what finance has turned into?
On the bright side, the speculation and finance memes on r/wsb are pretty prime.
Makes a sometimes distressing subject a bit more humorous...never expected that.

I found $470.60 in my pocket (PayPal account). Apparently it was sitting there for a month.

Not quite like MJ's story about how he found a check for $10k underneath his car seat, but I'm getting there, bit by bit.

Next time you think about saving someone somewhere, be careful. You might get sued if you don't save them correctly.

I always thought this was absurd, but when you take a CPR/BLS course, before you can even administer cpr, you have to ask a relative or conscious patient if you are allowed to start cpr. Gotta love the law.
