In my opinion, happiness is incredibly overrated. Your goal shouldn't be to maximize happiness, it should be minimize misery. There is a huge difference between the two. How good do you feel when you're happy? Pretty good. But how bad do you feel when you're down? Miserable. As humans we are far more susceptible to negative emotion because bad things can kill us, good things don't give us anything beyond joy. Money can minimize your misery by removing financial strain, which is the number one reason for divorce, it can buy you opportunities and gives you the freedom to say **** you when you need to.

I guess I am lucky that my family never said that money doesn't but happiness or isn't important. When I come from the most popular is "Rich people are bastards and are stealing money from me". Glad to have this community where this kind of thinking is shown as bullshit and you can change your mindset.

Nice read!! Money definitely buy happiness. Just tip your next waitress $100 and watch their face. Hand over a $100 to that bum and watch his eyes light up. The only thing money can't do is provide the mental fortitude that NOT having money for a very long time can build. The reason lottery winners and rich kids have trouble is because they skipped that part of the process.
