Not sure if Steve is asking 1) How do I stop the spam, or 2) How do I become more like the spammers?
But yes, this shit drives me nuts. Endless spam that won't stop coming, despite marking send and eventually blocking sender (which generally does take care of it).

Wish I could stop the sms "do you need a line of credit" texts. They just rotate numbers though, so impossible to stop.

Nobody ever gets upset about an AD / email that they WANT. But I wonder if there's becoming a smarter way to segment and send?

I saw a segmentation model the other day from another big IM guy that depending on how often they open emails, they get put on a daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or even monthly newsletter list. They claim it helps their deliverability but I mean... if everyone is just sending to everyone and skirting the system...

I don't have any conclusions just trying to spark ideas...

As far as the texts go I get the "Hey..." or "Hello" or other phishing attempts from some attractive AI Asian girl.
I have heard of it. But it's always a big huge egregious spammer who does millions of spam messages and pay $1M-$5M fine. Frankly, every time I hear about it I say to myself, "I bet those numbers pencil out. Cost of doing business".

But sometimes there is jail time, so don't be too brazen...
The number for the fine has to be big enough to both make the news and pay for the bureaucrats salaries working on this.

But that bit about $10k per email offense is really just a scary number that doesn't get enforced or at least if the "little ones" even get enforced, they don't get publicised.
I'm pretty particular about what goes out / when / how / the copy. I get a little obsessed with it, I guess.

I've never understood the spam thing... and when I felt like I finally "got" marketing I realized that it's soooo much more profitable and effective to actually find people who WANT to be on your list instead of trying to convince people they should be on there...

There's a lot of people on this forum who talk about cold emailing -- which -- could be considered spam in a certain light but I guess the difference is emailing one-by-one versus uploading a scraped list and trying to blast it.
