I've been in marketing for a long time now... normally I feel like I've got a pretty good handle on what's going on in the marketplace, the challenges, and all of that -- but I've been seeing something I just can't quite explain and I'm wondering "what am I missing here?"
So here's the jest:
In my own email inbox, I notice a dozen or more email senders I've unsubscribed from... yet, they still show up in my inbox.
Then I started taking those dozen or so... and marked them spam AND unsubscribed (after I had already unsubscribed)... yet they are STILL showing up in my main inbox! ... so I've now tried spam, unsubscribe, AND BLOCK SENDER... now half the time they show up in my main inbox or my spam folder.
How the hell are they getting through when I'm struggling with some clients' deliverability rates at times?
So I've done a little experimentation this last week... I sent about 6.5 million emails... and I specifically sent to "unsubscribes" as well just to see what would happen... several responses came back saying "I've unsubscribed 5 times, why are you still sending me emails?"
What in the world is going on here? Is spam just not a thing anymore? Are unsubscribes not a thing anymore?
Am I the only one experiencing stuff like this?
