Young girl quits social media, calls it all "contrived" and orchestrated BS despite having 1/2 million followers.

Pretty impressive for a young lady to come to such a realization.

The worse mistake i ever made is having facebook account. I have lived a life of comparism, bought car i don't want, living in an apartment i can't afford. Name it, cloths, jeweries, iphone, i almost go married to impress my friends and many more. All these are just to impress people. Despite All i still feel small. Ever since i deleted facebook, my life have restored to normal me. Social media is evil.

I recently saw two kids on the playground, both hypnotized by their smartphones. Both might have been as well at home by themselves as they didn't need either the friend nor the playground. Addiction starts early. Imagine them as adults...
Maybe they were reading the fastlane forum or checking their sales ;)

Never had a real Facebook account and never will. I keep in touch with old friends through email, phone and real meetups.

I made an account just so I could manage a few pages and do some advertising but other than that, there is no benefit in it for me either.

Apart from the other great reasons already mentioned, it's also a huge waste of time. You could be doing so much more during that time instead of looking at pictures of people who you don't care about. I'd say if you want to use it, limit your time on it to 10 minutes a day. If 10 minutes is not enough, then you probably have too many "friends" on it.

Social media is just people trying to impress others, but they don't want to admit it.

If I ask anyone on there, why do they tweet, post pictures, videos, etc. They would say some bs like " I do it for myself."

Then I tell them ask them why don't they just have a private account only for them. & Oh boy, Once I say that, the bull shit responses comes in.

Social Media has it pros and all, but I believe people use it to show off instead of "connecting."

Two observations relevant to this thread.
  • The outrage mob culture on social networks like twitter has gone out of control. The entire platform is basically a never-ending battle between two poles on a spectrum. Pick your camp, and you are set - there is an outrage after the other. This has created a system where bullshit has started to have real life consequences, and people are too brainwashed to notice. People are losing their careers over a tweet because thousands of people are actually going after them in real life. If you don't see how stupid thingies written on a website should not have similar power, I think you should have a minute of self-examination and wake the F*ck up, because five years ago you would have laughed at the idea.
  • 99% of the Internet is garbage. We say over and over that the masses are wasting their lives posting shit on Facebook, and yeah, everybody knows that. There is another pitfall, though, that's just as dangerous and I'm sure a lot of members of this board fall into it every day. Producing content that does not have a purpose. People have a natural need for being heard and being part of a group, and on the internet is easier to produce and share content. Then you have thousands of people writing blogs and websites that are just repeating the same thing and that will never produce value for anybody. Not to their readers, and not to them. They will never make money. They will never help anybody. Other bloggers will pat them in the back to get them to do the same, and that's it. How is that different than playing Ruzzle? At least playing is funny.

Well spun, ladies..well spun.

I can't believe they were actually offered free tickets to go to ANOTHER game just to do the same thing all over again.
Thank goodness they did something halfway sensible and turned them down, and did good by donating them to charity.

Pitiful, really, how so many of these young people go through life literally 'missing life' because their head is down. They have no idea what is taking place around them at any given moment.

There are tons of things they miss besides good sports plays.

They also missed every person that walked by.
  • Could have been a celebrity.
  • Could have been a long lost friend.
  • Might have been their 'dream mate', but they'll never know because they never even looked up long enough to lock eyes with someone. Then the moment is gone.

How easy would it be to miss those brief moments in life when something spectacular happens, like a shooting star....or a dolphin jumping in the ocean…because you were too busy scrolling facebook, texting, or taking selfies?

Heck, with the girls on this video, I bet Tyrannosaurus Rex could have stomped by and they wouldn't have even noticed.

Oh and we can't forget the soon-to-be-convicted-felons so swept up by gaining popularity for live feeding their crimes - which, of course someone fails to tell them WILL be used as evidence in the court to convict them of the crimes they carry out.

...but I digress - I do agree it is a great tool for building business and using it for opportune feedback where Action, Assessment and Adjustment is concerned, since most customers would mostly be on some SM platform, but solely for such.

I disconnected ALL my personal SM platforms back in 2016 - specifically when I recognised I didn't require validation from strangers on the net for doing regular, supposedly personal and human things; however, as I became more focused in business, I use it as an essential tool to connect with and obtain feedback about what my customers require and the best ways to deliver these requirements to them.

I see it as a valuable tool for those business purposes mentioned, and like any tool, e.g. A hammer - it can be used to build remarkable things; however, if misused, can become a murder weapon, thus, SM, when utilised in the most effective way, can drive fruitful success in our pockets and amidst our customer-base.

Just my 2cents!

It's a good way to keep in contact with old friends. It's also a great way to be involved in the lives of those you can't see very often. I'm only friends with those I'm very close to though.

Social proof is very powerful.

I remember reading this book on being a "player" and it talked about going into a room and getting social proof as quickly as possible, even if it meant speaking to someone you weren't too fond of.

People want to be liked, loved, approved, and want to feel better.

That's all I see when I see people post tons of shit about this and that. LOL. You can see that it is attention whoring.

In a subtle way, me having a facebook account lends me into seeking approval:

For example: It's a let down when I see a red notification and its someone asking me to play a game with them. I'd much rather you like my status.

Or, repeatedly logging in hope for notifications.

I use it for what it is - a simple way to keep informed and idly communicate with those I may otherwise rarely ever call or get to visit. And of course to advertise and such for business purposes.

And I absolutely click the "hide all from" button at the drop of a hat. I can only take so many posts fishing for likes and comments (aka "vaguebooking") before I just never want to see a post from them again.

It seems like facebook use is going down across the board though. This time 2 years ago my facebook account was exploding with every detail of everyone's lives. These days I may not see a single personal update from a friend or family member for days (and I only personally post a small handful of times a year, if that).

Not too long ago there was this chick on my newsfeed talking about how she's pregnant again. Later she was posting about a tough "decision" she has to make. Then she posted about how she made the "decision" and feels good. I'm sure you guys know what that decision was.

Sloots love them some Facebook.

The ironic thing about social media is that it has made most people less social than before. I completely abandoned Facebook just purely out of boredom and came to find out there were people who used it to keep tabs on me rather than ask me directly how I'm doing. We're talking family members and friends who live near me who would rather just get info on my life online than pick up the phone and say "hey".

Outside of that, it's just hard to take anything posted on social media seriously. The women who pose in their underwear in their dirty bathrooms and then call themselves "models" (booking info and all). The person that commits a crime and then posts pics of it online. I saw a guy on Vine eat poop straight out of the toilet for some likes and re-vines. Saw another guy attempt (key word attempt) to jump over a moving car only to end up eating the pavement. Then you have beefs that start on Twitter that lead to real life violence.

But hey, let them do them. At this point, I watch all of this mess like...

To anyone that has problems that resemble a crack addiction with facebook, you can use this to actually "only check what your ads/business partners/competition is doing:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stayfocusd/laankejkbhbdhmipfmgcngdelahlfoji?hl=en

Stayfocusd - app tool that allows you to easily limit access to any websites to a certain number of minutes/ times of day, etc.
Can be good for parental control also.

Even if you an adult and need parental control...
Lol

This is funny and sad at the same time.

Young people are actually training their faces to look good on their selfies. I can't exactly tell how, because I always look like a dork on photo. The funniest moments are when you see those girls posing in real life with their peace signs (What does it even mean? Peace? Really?), thousands of face muscles strained, going for that perfect hyperfiltered pic, fishing for likes.

Doesn't matter who likes it, even they're old creepy perverts.

Because a like is a like is a like.

There's that selfiegirl in my gym that actually has tattooed her name on her back. Her own name.

Only if it is government mandated as it adds to the nanny state. Wouldn't such a device be as simple as an app that detects g-force movement beyond walking? When it does, it blanks out the screen.
Yeah I think you are onto something there. Not sure if you could just use the accelerometer to detect g-forces over a certain limit. The problem I see with that is at a constant velocity (highway travel) there is no experienced acceleration. You could however detect velocity with the GPS.

Hey MJ. If you were a new entrepreneur, no product or service yet, what would you use social media for? If at all
What MJ said. Plus... if you start to build a following then you could figure out what products/services they’d buy, if at all.

Consider using Facebook groups (and forums) as places to find people talking about needs.

I absolutely would use it. Even with no product.

I would use it to build an audience, probably would start on YouTube and IG.

Once you have an audience, it's much easier to launch, assuming your audience matches your product/service.

Curious why you’d start with YouTube and IG and not include Facebook in that. (My gut tells me to use YT and IG if posting content, and FB groups for learning about what drives similar people - and a quick way to find and help them.)

I completely agree with MJ on every single point above. It is the world's largest phony fest. I stopped posting over a year ago. I like people's stuff every once in a while, but I'm literally on Facebook maybe 2-3 times per month.

I deleted my facebook a while back and feel I have much more time on my hands free for productivity.

I like to model what top executives do. I dont see them having facebook accounts worrying about other people's lives, their #gymflow or their #foodporn. Self-approval is better than the approval of others in my opinion, but sidewalkers and slowlaners seem to crave the opposite. #Live&Learn

Proof that Facebook is a joke...

http://themindunleashed.org/2014/07...cal-experiment-on-its-unsuspecting-users.html

The results of a secret psychological experiment conducted on nearly 700 thousand Facebook users without their consent recently came to light. The fact that the experiment was aimed at studying the emotions of the members of the social network without them knowing it has caused online outrage.

The study’s authors came to the conclusion that the emotions experienced by users online are influenced by the posts they read, which can also affect their behavior in real life. As they said,“Emotions expressed by friends, via online social networks, influence our own moods, constituting, to our knowledge, the first experimental evidence for massive-scale emotional contagion via social networks, and providing support for previously contested claims that emotions spread via contagion through a network.”
And now they are doing studies to prove it.

I've used facebook to do a "character analysis" on the people I hire. I recently was looking for a personal assistant and one of my requirements was to hire someone who I can trust with my confidential information. Trust is something that takes time to build and you can't tell how trust worthy someone is simply by asking them in an interview.

I looked up several candidates on facebook and I tested them to see if they would accept my friend request from my fake facebook profile. One young lady who I interviewed posted how bored she was at work and how she was going to just "youtube all day". I found it funny that she would keep that post up while she is job hunting and extra funny she was laid off a few weeks later.

Everyone puts on a nice attitude when they meet someone for the first time; which is one reason some waiters and waitresses are overly nice to the the point they are awkwardly nice. I try to find out how much BS the candidates are giving me by comparing the attitudes they gave me when they met me, to their attitudes in real life.

Most people don't even want to impress people, they really do it for themselves.
They want likes. Validation of their opinion.

In other words, most people are just jerking their egos off.
