The journey from 1 to 2 (or 1 to 10) is arguably more dificult than 0 to 1.

Nah. The first million is the hardest.

I’d say the biggest hurdle for many is getting out of their own way. Until they engage the market they’ll forever be at 0.

And for the first billion? That's my goal haha
Less talking, more doing. Get to work.

If you don't have something resembling a plan, then at this point this is only a dream, not a goal. Good luck, I'm rooting for you.

I’m not sure about that quote.

Entrepreneurs are problem solvers, who figure out how to help people and get paid. If they do it once they can do it again. It’s doing it once that seems to be the problem for most people. AKA getting started.

After a lot of struggle over the last few months, today I finally managed to get my first sale. It was only a small task that took about an hour, but I have been grinning all day since I finished it.
Off to work on getting my second sale.

Ding ding ding! One in a row!

How did you make the first sale? What advice would you give someone who's not made their first sale yet?

How did you make your first sale?

I'm freelancing on Upwork. My first sale was a bit haphazard. I am selling Excel spreadsheet work, but what happened this morning was that (I think) the customer had used the wrong keywords in their work request. So the algorithm had routed a job that had nothing to do with spreadsheets to all the spreadsheet people. Hence almost everyone else ignored it, apart from me. I looked at it and thought, "that's got to be easy", so I set about doing the work without talking to the customer.

After about an hour, I had finished the work and so I submitted the solution to the customer in my proposal. The work request had been live for about two hours at that point and had less than five proposals (no-one was interested). Needless to say when the client saw my proposal, they immediately put me on contract and I immediately marked it complete. They were ecstatic. I was chuffed to bits.

I know that this isn't how its supposed to be done, but it can be hard to get your first sale as a newbie so I thought that the risk was worth taking, besides it was an interesting task so I didn't really mind if I didn't get paid.

What advice would I give to someone?
Choose something with low downside and just throw yourself into it.
You don't really know what you need to do until you try and you don't really know what you need to learn until you try, so you don't know what steps you need to do until you try. Then just learn from all the cock-ups and keep going.
