I have a basic and simple question for you guys

what make you turn to coaching? live streaming, groups, courses, podcasting, books? I see a lot of people around here doing so, If you have hit great success with what you do then why don't you keep doing it and hit it greater rather than turning your compass and start the mentoring path .

I understand some of you like for an instant writing like MJ and didn't need any profit back from it, but what other reasons might you hold for such a path turn ?Am really curious to see logical reasons other than building a business to make a living out from it

In effect I am coaching, but not on a one to one basis. I do it through my books and by posting on the forum. I have also answered hundreds of PMs for those who want some help and don't want to risk displaying their confidential matters on the forum.

So - why do I do it?

The answer is that I enjoy it.

Why did I start doing it?

The answer is health problems. I operated a successful importing business and had franchisees working for me in four countries, when I had urgent heart surgery, I could no longer handle the stress of running a multi national business, so I sold up and retired.

Retirement was more stressful than working, because my brain wouldn't rest, so I came up with the idea of writing about things from my many years of experience. I knew from experience that what people get for nothing they usually don't value very much, so I put a price on my books.

That means that they are going to people who can really benefit.

There are other successful business people on this forum who give generously of their time. They don't need to be here, because they have either made lots of money, or are in the process of making it. This is what makes this forum unique. It has lots of contributors who really enjoy helping others.

I coach to help people. But I still have my main business that I run. I think most people who run successful businesses figure out quickly that they can’t pursue every single idea that they come across.

For example, I can’t sell every single good product that I find on Amazon. There’s just a point where I see so much opportunity and I myself cannot handle it all. So why not teach people how to take these opportunities to make money for themselves?

so you do it for the mere of helping people, but doesn't that take a ton of your time since you're still running your own business in parallel with coaching ?

Yes it does, but it’s a different type of work than running my business. And also that’s why i charge money for it.

I like helping people.

Some of those people are DFY clients and are typically busy business owners.

Many of those people (especially in a forum or Facebook group) are not yet busy business owners.

Shall I ignore the DIY folks and just help the DFY folks?

What about all the breadcrumbs I could leave that could help others jump from a 9-5 to being a freelancer working from home and seeing more of their family?

I see depressed people with skills who don't have the confidence to earn a living selling those skills - people who are all tangled up by the way the education system and society has conditioned them to be an employee.

I help out in forums because I can, and because I can't NOT.

When I see someone struggling I can't help but to try and gently guide them.

I get asked to mentor and coach people quite regularly. I try and point them to relevant posts in the forum.

That, and a course I released into the forum, is the extent of my coaching for DIY folks.

It does take time to do, and it does distract me from building my business that serves the DFY crowd. Which is partly why I charge for the course (another reason is to exclude the time-wasters).

What I didn't expect is how much would come back to me. Not only do I better understand the root-causes of the symptoms I see all the time, but helping the DIY has brought more business from the DFY crowd.

Strange that...

Hope that helps.

PS: I leave my best coaching for family, friends, and team members.

I coach because I like to help people. Sometimes it's free. Sometimes not. When it's not free it's because the person buying wants a deeper experience with me and more specialized, time-consuming help. A lot of people want specialized training or assistance, but my time is limited, so there has to be a value exchange. Giving stuff for free makes me feel good. I still run my business also. What I don't run is a charity.

I’m not a coach, at least not to the degree of some of the posters before me, but I’ve found that offering mentor ship and help where you can pays in dividends.

Not only is it good for the soul, which is worth the cost alone, but it is the BEST way to open up new opportunities.

People are sold on someone who has genuinely helped them and don’t hesitate for one second to connect them to the people they care about and associate with to get the same help they did.

But again, it’s just good for the soul.

At some point, it’s nice to pause from fishing and turn to teaching a man to fish. Empowering people is a huge reason many entrepreneurs do what they do anyway.

Sometimes, it feels good to NOT get paid for it.
