One thing i do daily is remind myself to give value (this could mean A LOT of things). This one thought keeps me from being too self centered (me me me me me).

I just had my first day of muay thai class yesterday and i was nervous, then i realized i was being self centered, just caring about how I felt.

When i could switch the focus and just give 100% effort, because i know when I'm gym seeing people killing it, no matter if they are new or not, it always adds more motivation to the environment.

Ask questions and genuinely listen to what the other person says. It's simple but surprisingly hard to do in today's distracted world. Hard to tune out the "me me me" internal monologue.

What is being a better person to you?

We have many behaviors that will fall into that category ( responsibility, punctuality, manners, empathie, taking action, ...) and we all are more or less good at them so I think you should pick the one you think you need to improve and put your focus on it. :smile2:

Always look to help others and be selfless. Life presents you with tons of ways to offer value to people on a daily basis. Something as simple as smiling at a person can bring THEM value.

You're already a good person but you can always be doing more stuff focused 100% on helping the other person out without expecting anything in return, which is the direction you seem to want to be headed.

Don't overthink it, just look to help other people as much as you can. Make their lives easier, better and more confident.

I would say one of the biggest things you can do for yourself is to learn what it means to be self-aware. Being the ultimate observer of oneself is another area to focus on.
An ultimate observer is almost like an out-of-body experience where you take a critical look at how you communicate with others, the words you choose and really looking at yourself with a critical eye so that you can respond to people better and deal with situations better.

The more you know yourself, your weaknesses and strengths, the better you are able to improve them.

Observe other people and see what habits they do that disgust you or make you uncomfortable. Then think about yourself if you do the same things. If yes, improve. :)

give praise to life and meditate

" bless that which you want "

whether you believe in spiritual things or not doesn't matter.

results follow anyway because it is based on the law of vibration as described in esoteric teaching

what you send returns back to you

send a smile and you get a smile

http://www.hermetics.org/pdf/kybalion.pdf

( by the way, esoteric things have nothing to do with religions. )

Connect with other individuals. Seems we all tend to get self-absorbed lost in our own worlds. We get busy, forget other individuals exist, and get laser focused in our zone. We tune out the world. Show up for others in life. Give them your full attention.

Do you want it instantly or gradually? Your question is twofold.

What long term habits will elevate me to a higher place?

Define for yourself what a higher place is. And your answer will come automatically.

What instant actions would make me a better person?

Same. Define when you are a "better person".

For me?

It is lift weights and give more to other people.

But as I say, that is just for me...

Ask yourself better questions first.

Give thanks.

Literally. Thank people. This makes their day, and makes you more observant that someone has done something nice.

This makes you a better person (you can't thank people if you're only thinking about yourself), and it also makes you a better business person (how can you spot other people's needs if you don't observe what's going on around you?).

Give thanks and be grateful for what you have.

Give without expectation of anything in return.

This post might help:

^^^ This is incredibly powerful.

Asking questions is (relatively) easy. Listening properly is much harder. Do both and your sales skills will improve dramatically.

You'll also end up the most interesting person in the room. ("To be interesting be interested.")

You'll end up a much better salesman, and problem solver.

"Help one person at a time and always start with the person nearest you.” - Mother Teresa
There she is! My favourite business quote is my favourite quote of all time, and it's by Mother Theresa of all people.

"Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time, and always start with the person closest to you."

I mention this line in this radio interview:

I'm not sure about being a better person - it depends what you think is wrong with you but I will tell you what I think can make you have a better life today and every day from now on.

Do something exciting, satisfying or fascinating every day. Only one is needed to have a great day but if you can two or all of these things every day you'll have a fantastic day and be living as good a life as is humanly possible. That will probably make you a better person (in the eyes of others) as well. If you find satisfaction in helping people, that's what a good person does. If you can do something satisfying you're doing yourself a huge favour will be happier and that'll probably make you a better person too. And if you can do something fascinating then you'll just be a happier person all round.

Happier you = better you and it will shine on and affect others around you and they might even reflect that back on you which will make you feel better - for sure. This can all be done today starting right now. I call it the "shot glass method" to daily fulfilment because you only need a small amount of any of those three elements on any day to be able to put your head on your pillow at night with a happy sigh, satisfied that you've lived as good a life as you can this day.
