Also another example of someone who could have become rich many times over if he hadn't got lured into the fast buck ripoff mindset. That's what happens when you're so used to lying, that your lying extends beyond the marketing into the product as well. Or I should say, the sheer lack of any product worth of any value.

The line between bro-marketing ("I drive exotic cars" (but don't own/rent/lease any of them) and "I live in penthouses" (rented by the month) and actual fraud is very thin.

I'm betting this guy started out in your typical IM, MMO field (slick copywriting and persuasive writing) and then devolved from there. LOCK HIM UP.

As for how he got his start, this youtube video lays it out nicely.

For what it's worth, the Fyre promo video that sold the lie, was visual magic.

There's a documentary on this festival on Netflix now, I recommend it! Billy is a psyco, but there's some good lessons to be learned, and its a good case study of what not to do.

He had Incredible people skills and charisma, and if he focused that on solving problems instead of defrauding investors and just straight up scamming people, he could have been one of the greatest entrepreneurs of the past decade.

No idea how I landed on this thread, but Netflix has a hilarious and terrifying documentary on the whole situation.

I've seen both the Netflix and Hulu versions....the Hulu version isn't as slick, but I think it tells the story from a law enforcement and attendees point of view.
the Netflix version is done by the same media company that Fyre hired to do its campaign blitz, it was slicker but also came off as the employees telling their stories and covering their collective asses in the avalanche of lawsuits that must be bearing down on them.
