Hi all

First post here so glad to be a part of the community :)

So here’s a quick back story - I’m 27, just sold a company and netted just over £500,000 from it. I have zero debt.

I want to invest the money and am thinking real estate but wanted everyone’s advice on what they think the next big thing could be? Always interesting to hear everyone’s thoughts on this sort of stuff!

Cheers
Daniel

First congrats!!! Awesome news.

Second, don't let the money blow a hole in your pocket.

500K at young age is a great start for the rest of your life. Before putting it anywhere, make sure you know what you're getting into. Real estate in the UK isn't the same as real estate in Anytown, Indiana.

Why not start another business, the same "investment" that got you a great return of 500K?

There's nothing wrong with sitting on the money while figuring out your next move. Perhaps your next business will have some bigger capital requirements?

Congratulations! As MJ stated above, I'd sit on it for a while and give some real thought on how to use it best.

If I were in your shoes, I'd start looking for safe investments and invest 90% of the money. The remaining 10% I'd use to support you while you build another business. You clearly have the skills to pull it off!

I'm nowhere near your situation so I might not be the best person to be giving advice. I usually only take advice from people who are doing better than me in the giving situation

I hope you'll write a thread on what and how you did it!

Could you tell us what you did. In general terms if you don't want to be specific. At this point you have one post claiming to have made 500K with no details. So we don't know what to think.

As MJ mentioned, it would be okay to sit on the money a bit. If you do decide on the real estate route, take the time to educate yourself on the topic if not already familiar. I'm a big believer in the power of real estate, but with your proven track record of past success in selling your business, it might make more sense to do it over again.

Hi all

Thanks for your advice etc it’s really appreciated.

Yes I am also thinking of repeating what I did previously as it’s a process and I like to think I could maybe do it again... my long term goal has always been property so I think I’ll also spend the next few months researching heavily into that as well.

In terms of how I made the money, it was through e-commerce. I started a brand and a larger brand in the same industry acquired me.

Cheers
Dan

I'd go to a casino and put £250k on black and £250k on red at the roulette table.

Either way, you win. The other option is to start another e-commerce store and do it again - this time sell it for £5 mil. :)

Do you do stocks?

TUR ETF. It is trading at book value and has a yield over 4 percent.

Another safer alternative is China’s FXI.

Or read unscripted . Good advice on how to get a diversified annual 20k cashflow on your half a million investment.

Congrats on your triumph.

As a fellow entrepreneur, I guess since you haven't got any new ideas, maybe it's worth repeating what you just accomplished at a much bigger scale. I'm saying this not knowing what your buyout clause says.

Like all questions -- it depends. What do you want to do next? I know that sounds like a lot of money to you. It can take you a long way or be squandered in no time flat.

Real Estate is a long term investment. I've been in that business for 43 years. Most of the time, my RE investments are boring. They take time and work on a continuing basis. BUT, over the years they have been good solid investments. I love my "cash cows!"

Awesome and Congrats!

If I were in your shoes, I would:

1) Take a couple months off and do some cheap traveling, gather some ideas, etc.
2) Start another e-commerce business to build some cash flow.
3) Once I have steady positive cash flow again, then I'd take the money from the sale and invest it into long-term assets (real estate, etc.)
4) Sell e-commerce business, repeat except more risky venture ideas outside of e-commerce.

Congrats - I can't give advice because I never had so much capital before.

I have an eCommerce store in Europe. Let me ask a few questions because I want to sell my "Brand" as well:
- Did the competitor connected with you? Or you advertised your business somewhere?
- Did you have stock? or did you dropship?

Thank you:)

Read Unscripted , especially Chapter 48. You could be netting ~2K/month without touching the capital, for the rest of your life, without even working. Perhaps take a part of that sum and rebuild another business, but that's already a decent stack of money coming in without doing anything.
