The funny thing is, the less sugar you eat the less you need, and the sweeter normal foods taste.
I was shopping for an online backup solution after getting paranoid someone could simply enter my home and steal my backups, but they were all too expensive because I have TB's of data. Another issue with online backups is that they are a recurring cost, and I am trying to minimize recurring costs. I realized I could just make some encrypted backups, and store them in my car, which is what I will do.

In the spirit of saving money, I see DHH at Basecamp has elaborated on their move away from the Cloud. They reduced their Cloud costs as much as possible, and their bill was still $3.2M. He's going to give an update at the end of 2024 to document how much money they saved by using their own servers.

NASA paid Oracle $15M to avoid a software-license audit. An outside auditor told Oracle they wasted $35M on overpayments and penalties, over the last few years.

If we go in to a deep Recession, I expect a lot more of these stories. Companies looking at where all their money is going, and being shocked at how much they've wasted. The Cloud is often touted as a way to save money, but that seems to be where a lot of companies are getting hammered.
