Hello ladies and gents,
I’ve lurked around the forums here for awhile and have undertaking several projects since initially signing up. All of them thus far have failed though I have learned quite a bit in each venture. I never started a progress thread for any of them and I think that was a mistake I want to remedy.
So that being said I figured it’s time to start a progress thread on a website I recently launched. The website is an experiment to see if I can make money by buying traffic to my website which sells a product through an affiliate program.
The products are related to the health/nutrition niche. The products aren’t shady or some weird kind of diet / supplement. It’s a well known and legitimate product. The store is legitimate and established. I’m thinking they have decent sales based on the quality of their website but I don’t actually have any data on their conversions.
My website basically consists of a landing page which talks about the benefits of the product and I also offer a guide which I give away for email signups. The guide focuses on ways to use the products for the most benefit.
I haven’t made any sales yet
but based on the sale prices I’m hoping to make a commission of ~$5 for every purchase from the website.
So far I have run some adwords campaigns but for me to get impressions the CPC is far to high to be profitable. I’m running facebook ads right now and paying CPM to hopefully get the CPC down if the ad creative works. I only just started running Facebook ads last night and no ads were running for my bid even though it was above the recommended, however, everytime I checked the recommended bid it kept going up to above my current bid by ~$0.30 wtf Facebook? Anyway, I finally got frustrated and set it to automatic so I would get some data and now my ads seem to be running. I’m at ~250 impressions so far with 0 conversions
and the price is much higher than it would need for me to make profit if I had say a 5% conversion rate.
One person signed up for my email. No idea where this person came from, maybe Google as I did have some clicks.
Maybe I’m wrong but I think it would be difficult to get a conversion rate of > %5 from the facebook ads. Because of the low return on successful conversions I’m pretty limited on how much I can pay per click.
I’m a bit frustrated, though it is very early in the process. I am wondering what you guys think? Namely, is it a feasible strategy to make money on an offer like this through buying traffic? Seems like I would have to have a very high CTR just to get users to the other site, since the bulk of them will likely not end up buying anything.
I don’t like to abandon projects too soon but I haven’t invested much time into this ~20 hours of researching/writing content for the landing page and the guide I give away which is ~15 pages. I’m wondering if the amount of money I can make off this is simply too small to be sustainable even if there is a large market.
I do have a plan on how I could scale this by introducing my own product if the idea appears viable. My initial intent was just to test something with low initial investment and see if I could break even on a direct marketing campaign. Alot of it simply for learning purposes.
I’d appreciate any thoughts, comments, feedback.
Cheers.
