I'm sure all of us wonder how we can be more productive, more motivated to get shit done, and more inclined towards spending time on business ventures.

I personally go through periods of extreme motivation and periods of 0 motivation to do anything productive. Sometimes it seems like I am crazy for not working on my business and my inner voice screams to work but I just don't on certain days.

There is actually a reason for this, you aren't crazy.

After reading through @ChrisV post on dopamine release I dug a little bit deeper and am convinced that this is a disparity between people on this forum. If there ever was a secret to working hard and success I think this is it as I have noticed small periods in my life that validate this. I would love to compare the behavior of successful people and non and I would bet that dopamine release (or too much dopamine) played a huge factor as it is such a sabotage on our brains. All those phone checks, late night snacks, video games, and frankly unearned dopamine hits are essentially putting us in a place of not being able to focus on tasks that are ultimately fulfilling.

I'm by no means the first person to think of this but for some reason it just clicked, I don't think people realize how badly our world is geared towards getting you addicted to shit. It is extremely subtle and super effective... kinda scary if you think about it especially with smart phones.

Also in extreme cases (drug use), and animal tests, mammals would rather NOT eat than get a hit of their desired dopamine... super chilling.

Either way I'm convinced, this over abundance of dopamine hits is happening to all of us to a certain extent of varying degrees. In some cases it is the reason why you can't focus and others can. Why you can't seem to be interested in something even though you know it is ultimately fulfilling. Why you would love to achieve success but lack the focus and will to get it done.

I would love to hear others thoughts on this, and thanks to @ChrisV for opening my eyes to it. Powerful shit.

I have a simpler theory To explain this. And it worked for me in helping me to execute things. It has to do with how the human brain interprets pleasure and pain.

It is the human tendency to avoid pain and seek pleasure.

People avoid work and lose focus/procrastinate because the pain of work exceeds the joy of fulfillment. Sitting on the sofa playing phone

So you have to tilt the equation.

1) Amplifying the pain of Not Working. It is really the pointing a gun at your own head approach. Have a punishment system in place for nor working. If you hate doing push up then do 20 when you fail to finish your work by 7pm. Cultivate a fear driven pressure. Let the pain of not working drive you.

2) Amplifying the pleasure of work

What NLP guru will tell you to visualize cars and money. My own view is that is not going to work very well. If people are really driven by cars and money everyone in the world will be millionaires now. The problem is when you already have food on the table and a roof over your head, external material obsession are not as powerful as you believed to make you going through a tough journey without quitting.

Historically what has proven to work is work along the ideas of “ego+ideology”. In the middle age some Monk whip lash themselves because suffering made them closer to God. In military culture ability to take punishment is seen as “strength” and is to be separate from the “weak”. If you could rewire your value and belief in which the pain will be reinterpreted and experienced together with some sort of pleasure, then it will be easier.

Yup, and society is being bred this way, generation after generation.

Let's say you're 13 years old. You own a smartphone your mom bought for you.

Scrolling mindlessly in social media (game over already), you noticed that your crush from school has uploaded a picture that's showing unnecessary amounts of cleavage.

Your hormones go wild, so what do you do? Acknowledge that you're in puberty, calm your erection, grab yourself by the balls (metaphorically) and hit her up?

Hell no, you've got your hand and porn is just one click away.. and for some people with addictive personalities that's game over. Fried dopamine receptors, 0 motivation, literal fear and avoidance of interactions with women, low testosterone.. a shell of a man.

But maybe you're a smart 13 year old. You wonder if this is normal to do.

So you ask Google, you ask your dad.

"It's normal" they say. You go a step further and ask your mom: "Yes son, all the boys do it, it's perfectly normal".

Whatever, you're still skeptical so you stop (find me a 13 year old with the willpower to stop masturbating and watching porn) and now you find yourself reading about social media and stopping that as well, good job.. but now you're the "weird" kid in school.. Enjoy your lack of external acceptance and depression until your graduate.

Did I mention the ads? Kids are growing up plastered with ads from all sides by capitalistic sharks and get plugged deep into the consumer matrix.

The game was rigged from the start.. congratulations to everyone who made it to this forum and this video.
