Hi all, I'm looking into sourcing electronics from China. Has anyone done this before with success? I'm still scared of china sourcing even though I know they source 90% of the world's products. I'm wondering about anything having to do with metals/electronic components? If they say something is a titanium product can I trust that?

"Trust, but verify" - Ronald Reagan (although I think it was originally a russian saying)

Anyway,

I think that's what samples are for. I've gotten one sample thus far, and it was everything they said it would be.

If you sent emails to manufacturers tonight, you might get a response before your morning since it is lunch time there...

Yeah I've spoken to a few of them already concerning other products, but just wasn't too sure the quality of metals they use, and the consistency and quality of electronics.

One way to tell I guess, more samples :)

Yeah, definitely do a good job on research. I wouldn't be too worried tho, get the sample and judge for yourself.

My iPhone 7 was assembled in China and it's the real deal.

If it's your first product you source, find an easier, non-electronic one.

I mean I've sourced hats from there years ago :) lol, I just found a niche that is growing big right now that I actually enjoy talking about and know a decent amount about it.

Like @MidwestLandlord said, get the samples do your research.

If it's something you can't test out yourself, look into paying an electrical engineer to test it out. Worth the money if this product is in a growing trend market.

Funny, that's exactly how I felt last year when finding that one product. It failed.

I hope you're doing better!

It indeed was a soviet saying in which Gorbachev insisted across his cabinet and advisors LOL

Your best friends will be testing labs. I have seen many buyers who wanted to avoid paying for testing fee's because they trusted the manufacture. If you are planning on ordering large bulks, best to make sure you do 3 inspections to during the process with new suppliers.

I have imported several million electronic products (audio) to USA to many brands (Best buy, Walmart, etc). So feel free to ask me any questions

So, I worked for a wholesale import/export electronics operation for a couple years, and I gotta say, I wouldn't touch this just because of the due diligence and QC. Granted, we were working mostly in cell phones, which are a lot more complex than other things.

If possible, I would work first with a wholesaler located in the US that can buy the product from China for you, do the due diligence and QC, etc. QC is expensive, and the fallout from these cell phones/tablets tends to be pretty high (20%) if you're doing full testing. I see you're in Vancouver... there's a lot of those types of outfits in Vancouver, too.

Regarding your last question - the answer is NO.

Never believe anything you read on a supplier's B2B sales page, or on their website. Never trust what they say. Independent testing is your only way to be sure, unless you have the technical skill to do it yourself.

Yeah that is quite true. I was always cautious of electronics from there... I may stick to items without electronics. First samples I ordered, two separate items but only one piece of each, and one of the items was dead, kept blowing my braker at my house and USB port on it wasn't soldered properly.

Second item has a battery in it and honestly I'm scared as hell that the battery will blow up in my face lol.

Skipping electronics... NEXT!

If you keep selling electronics, I hope you have good product liability insurance...
