Hello,

I’m am still learning to code an app to be which has already gotten soft proof as I want to solve a small problem first. Whilst I wait, I want to make quick cash that isn’t my usual overtime at work.

I’ll write a bit about my process here. I will go a bit old school and sell any method- mainly in person, random sites and sometimes Facebook marketplace. My aim is to make £7,000 ($9042) in 2 months (matching my monthly salary with a bit of overtime).

I have sold before but got “distracted” with marriage. I wasn’t aware but although introverted, I am actually quite good at selling products that are in good condition.

Today I saw an old neighbour near his rental property and he mentions throwing some chairs away that he bought but the legs were too weak for his liking and he threw all the receipts etc away. I go inside and see they’re perfectly fine! I asked if I could have them for free as he wanted to throw them and he agreed. I saw they were in good condition and set myself a challenge. I need them sold before my wife gets back from work.

Item: 4 chairs (originally bought by owner for £20/ $25 In a deal)
Bought: free
Sold: £35 ($45)

How did I sell it? I literally went next door and asked if they wanted to buy some newly new chairs in a matching pair for a small price. I told them I’d bring them and delivery would be free. They were going out so when they’d returned after an hour I was stood in their garden with the new chairs- sold immediately.

He isn’t sure about the table but I already have a buyer lined up in case (not the same person who bought the chairs).

Profit so far: £35/$45.

Just got home after a shift and saw a text message from my friend. Apparently he had tried to sell his table for £50/$64 and had 0 interest for 1.5 months. Not even an offer. I have told him to keep it at his property for now and will see how fast I can sell it.

Challenge: sell within 15 hours (before my next shift).

I’m an early waker so I’ve woken up and gone to a local area. I saw 3 people outside and asked them all “fancy a nearly new table?”

One person replied positively but she said that her floor was dirty and it would take 30 minutes to brush it. I’ve told her if she buys my table I’ll come and brush it for her. Price agreed at £50/$64 but money and table not exchanged yet as she has to go to a doctor’s appointment.

Well it was a lot more brushing than I thought haha. I went back and brought my on Dyson vacuum cleaner and quickly cleaned it up for her than gave her the table.

Item: Table worth £70/$90 new.
Bought: free as he thought it had no interest ( I also helped clean his bathroom for 30 mins to sweeten the deal…it was bad).
Sold: £50/$64.

Total profit: £85/$109

I just made a quick £400/$516

I was doing some grocery shopping at a local store and saw an old friend. As we were chatting an Eastern European male came up to us and asked us if we knew how to get a cheap washing machine that could be delivered within 2-3 hours. His washing machine had broken recently and the only local company selling cheaper appliances couldn’t deliver until the tomorrow at the earliest due to a vehicle breakdown.

He didn’t have a car and the local launderette was closed for a few weeks and it was already costing him a lot in terms of taxis and washing/drying. He is a painter on a cash only basis and doesn’t get paid until next month.

My friend excused himself and walked away. I said sorry and turned around as it was too hard to look for one cheap, buy it and deliver it in that short period of time.

As I was walking down the street it hit me. “It’s too hard…”

You idiot Suhail- that IS the opportunity for your challenge.

I turned around and caught up to the gentleman and asked him how much he is willing to pay. He told me his maximum was £400/$516. Wow that would be really quick for my challenge with a few minutes of work.

I got in my car and rang the local company and asked for the cheapest model they had- They had one but it had some damage at the back that didn’t affect it. The damage made it look really ugly from behind. It was not selling for a few weeks but they would happily give it to me for £100/$129 if I took it off their hands.

I went back and asked the male if some damage at the back of the machine (superficial) would be a deal breaker and he said no.

I had an issue- my hatchback car wouldn’t be able to store the washing machine.
What should I do? The cogs in my brain started whirring.

My plan: solve this guys problem but could I help the business?

I rang the place back and said- if I provide you a friend who can deliver for you today with a van will you give him a commission? They agreed as they were having a bad day losing customers.

So I made the connections. I rang my friend and said:
“Here is the deal. You deliver this washing machine to this males house. In return I have got you delivery jobs for the whole day with several hundreds in commission.”

I wasted no time and got the plan into action. I delivered and installed the washing machine and took home my £300 in profit. However my friend has just given me £100 more as although I refused, he felt like he owed me a commission for making him money.

Moral of this story: Help people in need, get paid. Help businesses in need, get paid again. I got paid, my friend got paid, the business got paid, this male got his washing machine with no car from a company with no delivery van.

I’ve attached the cash from the job and the washing machine installed.

Item: Washing machine
Bought: £100/$129 superficially damaged but functional.
Sold: £300/$387 +£100/$129 from friend

Total profit so far: £485/$626

I forgot to mention. I Wanted some magical passive income so listed something on Facebook marketplace after someone left this with my dad as he “didn’t know what it’s for and it’s probably not worth anything.”

So I put it on sale for a quick sale. I basically said I wanted it done tonight when I get home. Whoever has cash and will come outside mine at midnight gets it. I had 4 buyers. 2 were bartering hard but I didn’t care for it. 1 was rude and I blocked him. One was a tad slow with replies but promised me he would come. Sure enough he was on my street when I came back. Promptly sold and off he went happy.

Moral: create urgency and get sales faster.

Bought: Fell into my dads lap.
Sold: £100/$129

Total profit so far: £585/$752

My cousin was complaining today about a tenant who was so picky and wanted someone to stock a house up for them and refused to order from the supermarket He said “That guy is so picky. What he’s asking for is for someone else to solve his problem”

I thought- solve a problem huh? I’m on it!

I went to his house and he had a disability. He was unmarried and said he can order delivery but the supermarkets choose the food and they never check if food is nearly out of date etc. he said he wanted thing from several stores (supermarket, electrical, local, ethnic etc). He had asked all his neighbours but they kept saying it would take too long and it was too hard. Too hard. He gave me a budget and said if you can do all of this within 2 hours, I’ll give you £1000/$1287. I thought he was kidding but I went and did it anyway. I am on a day off from work and the Mrs is at work- might as well do something useful for someone after an hour of coding.

In total £1000/$1287 was spent but I got him all sorts of things. I rang ahead of every non supermarket store and told them to have items out for me. This way I could buy faster and only had to do a quick once over and if it was all good, I could literally walk into the store and walk back out in 60 seconds.

Some of the items bought:
1. Cream carpet (with specific instructions of patterns on the side but none in the middle)
2. Ninja air fryer (used my blue light discount card to save him money)
3. Bought lots of cleaning products in bulk and then negotiated a discount.
4. A mini fridge/freezer
Bought: shopping for a disabled tenant when nobody else would- including his friends and landlord!
Sold: My work ethic for £1000/$1287

Total profit so far: £1585/$2039

So I went with a friend to a garage to get his car MOT done and the mechanic told me he had some older cars for sale but couldn’t get any buyers.

I had a look at his sales and marketing strategy:
1. Ask random customers driving Audis, Mercedes, BMW and other similar type brand cars if they wished to drive an older model Toyota.
2. Stick a label on the car, then park the car in front of the garage which is kind of out of the way from normal shops. Aka it would take a fluke for someone to see it. Even if they do they would need to be interested to even call.

My strategy:

1. I asked him if I would get a cut from selling the cars. There were 5 cars in total and he promised me 20% as he couldn’t get sales for 6 months. The cars were about £2,000/$2535 each (Toyota Yaris/Corolla if you’re wondering).

2. I washed the cars and made sure there was air freshener inside and then took the cars on the busiest streets where there was heavy footfall. Schools, close to large shopping centres and near prominent businesses like banks, restaurants and even hospitals. Anywhere where there was footfall + bored people waiting about + people who were spending money = potential customer.

Why the above? It was clear that:
1. He had the wrong target audience. He needed to target new and young drivers with a sensible car. He was pushing his stuff when he should be organically attracting the attention. If he gets a call = interest.
2. He needed heavy footfall. One guy in a BMW a few hours before work is different from 200 young people walking past with hours on their hands.
3. Alternatively there was auto trader he could use but I felt like I could take the commission + build a connection.

Result:
In the space of a week I have made £2,000/$2535. I helped one family by literally siting in their living room and help find cheap insurance quotes. They got a reasonable car, at a reasonable price + help with insurance with one phone call. This is not a fast lane venture obviously but in the future if I need to sell cars for friends or family I now know I have this skill. I am also shocked having been in my city for over 2 decades how little cars are sold like this. Many times I see a car here or there every few years but it’s usually in clearly poor shape.

Bought: Nothing
Sold: 5 cars
Money: 20% comission only.

Total profit so far: £3785/$4795

I have just made another $1,000+ commission!

All week my neighbours were complaining that they needed a plumber to fix certain things but they couldn’t get one. They were all always so busy etc (literally the way for decades- everywhere).

After finishing work I saw a plumber’s van which had broken down and help jump start it. We got chatting about the weather (typical British chat haha) and I asked him how work was. He said work was slow this month and he had 4 days in a row where he was free.
I asked: “isn’t your phone buzzing with work?”
He replied saying: “I have a website but random people in the country ask me for mudane jobs when I really just want local jobs. I don’t want to spend all the profit on fuel.”

I thought to myself- this is a simple opportunity. It turns out he was using cards in low income households and assumed the higher income households in my area would already have their own plumbers etc.

Assume. What a silly word.

As soon as I told him about my neighbours he started action faking.

“Shall I get some new cards made?”

“I’ll go next week when I’ve cleaned my car to look more professional.”

What?!

There are literal customers sat there with cash out and you’re still not going? I told him if he gives me a 20% commission today, I’ll have his food and bills paid for in less than 3 days.

I almost dragged him by his ears to my neighbours who were all unsurprisingly still awake at 1am- watching Netflix. I told them to state your job and take a picture of the number on his van for the future. They were so grateful as some were due to go on holidays that they prepaid for the work in full.

The plumber had £5,000/$6334 in his pocket in less than 60 minutes.

Moral: You don’t need a website, you don’t need cards, you don’t even need to be that presentable. Solve problems, get paid.

Bought: Nothing
Sold: 5 contracts via a street conversation at midnight.
Money: 20% comission.

Total profit so far: £4785/$6062

Sorry for the late update.

Just made another £1,000/$1208. Btw the numbers keep changing because the currency rate keeps changing

I’ve nearly hit my target and I haven’t hit 1 month officially yet!

My friend’s wife makes these really nice fancy glasses. He told me they had interest from across Europe but they couldn’t sell as the packing was too difficult. The second complaint was from potential customers- they don’t want to risk a dodgy product when they open the box. So I did some research.

I realised that there was 2 main problems:
1. The glasses were big and heavy.
2. The box was too big and heavy.
3. People felt the box might contain dodgy items.

Solving 1 could work but that’s not what the customers wanted. So it was all in on solving 2.

I find out that it was very big because they didn’t pack the glasses inside properly. Bubble wrap + paper + cellotape gave plenty of protection. We also added some cut sponges To prevent even scratches.

Next we worked on branding. Rather than a plain white box, we made it see through so people could see the contents.

Did we lose some potential profit because of this? 100%. But I took a risk. By losing profit per unit, I ensured they made more profit in total.

So they went from $30 profit per unit and sold 10 vs $5 profit per unit but sold 1,000!

This was her first glass models that she sold and her actual talents aren’t yet available.

Moral: Help people make money. . Solve problems, get paid.

Bought: packing equipment for them.
Sold: 1,000 units of product.
Money: £1000/$1208 flat payment regardless of sales.

Total profit so far: £5785/$7270

Well hello there!

I’ve been a bit busy but didn’t forget my challenge.

I recently went to a store to purchase some clothes and got chatting to the owner. He told me he had the following interesting problem-
He had some popular designer Asian clothes and there were some interesting orders coming in from over 3 hours drive away. The orders were for designer clothes along with small gift bags for wedding guests and they were willing to pay handsomely if they could be delivered within 3 days for the entire family. The customers wanted this as the local offers were too high and inflated. They promised that they would refer more people of this could be done for them.

However, the owner couldn’t fulfill these orders as he had nobody to take them and taxis were too much (self employed sole worker). He also didn’t have any gift bags to give alongside and didn’t want to “waste” his money buying them if he couldn’t get the clothes sold.

I realised I could find solution to his problem and we both could get paid:
1. Buy ready made gift bags at a bulk discount then get bulk cards with envelopes and then write the customer names in there. I got married recently and realised some cards look much fancier than they cost. I made the bag/card combo look amazing and it would make them happy to pay. I charmed the gift bag seller and he added some chocolates in for free!
2. Take the items to the customers myself. I have a diesel with a very high mpg haha.
3. Take commission for my work.

I made a list of addresses and realised I could do a single round trip in a day and get back. I went quickly the same day and when I got there they were over the moon. They were about to pay 3x the price for somewhere local if I didn’t turn up!

Moral: Helped a family prepare for a wedding. Helped a business order get paid. Solve problems, get paid.

Bought: gift bags and delivered for a business.
Sold: my time and sweat equity
Money: £2,757/$3,498 flat payment regardless of sales.

I’m almost there now…

Total profit so far: £8,542/$10,840

I just want to thank all the kind people who are liking and giving my comments gold- you guys motivate me to keep going and finding new problems to solve.

Also forgot to add the attachment for the recent clothing commission.

Woah, you should get into real estate, lol.
Reminds me of an interview I heard a while back with Rizwan Sajan. He hustled very similarly to you in his early days.

So, whilst all the new year new me people were getting ready with their fireworks, I was busy solving problems. I know I set out to make $9,000 but I had changed the goalposts in my head when I got there. I wanted 5 figures in uk GBP and not just dollars.

1.

Problem: My sister has a hydrofacial business (don’t really understand it but basically it’s helping women get clearer skin via fancy machines and skin care products). She has 10k+ followers on instagram and has clients lined up for several months. Her £4,000 machine was broken and delivery wouldn’t be another 2 weeks. I realised that I could solve this problem for her and help her get back on track.

Action: I decided to trawl the internet and found ONE hydrofacial in all of England available. It wasn’t actually available, I went through her social media and noticed she had 2 machines. I DMed her and she said she would sell it to me. We negotiated for £2,000 and off I went for yet another “unpaid uber job” as I call it. People often see no “for sale” sign and think these items are not for sale. If that is the case, be proactive as some people might be thinking of selling but haven’t got the “push” to do it.

Second action: Whilst collecting it she asked me why as a guy I was so interested. She loved that I hustled like this so she gave me items to sell and I could get a comission. She estimated it would take me 3 weeks to sell all 100. It took me 6 hours hahahahha. All I did was give them to my sister to sell them, then gave her all the comission to help pay off the machine.

Third action: seeing my success, the female (doctor btw) offered me to sell her facial business beds (used) . She had 4 I didn’t bother asking her why but said yes. I went off and 3 days later sold them all. They were massive, inconvenient to lug around and could easily break. The people buying them were other female professionals in the area with a “me too” side business.

Result: Sister got her machine, saving 30 clients from having to reschedule. A random person 3hrs drive away got multiple items sold without leaving her house . I made cold hard cash.

Moral: Help everyone regardless of race, religion, gender or even area. Everyone has problems and you might even be able to profit from solving them.

Profit this time: £2,800, $3,504

Total profit so far: £11,342/$14,196

So I smashed my goal in 1 month and hustled hard. Could I have done things better, targeted higher income people etc? Who knows but it shows you can make quick money easily without changing your moral compass. You’ll notice that I mostly have no inventory, none of my own cash and sometimes don’t even take long. A lot of people make excuses and I hoped that this thread would inspire someone to take some action even if it’s not your main business idea. You’ll also notice that even though I set out to do x, sometimes y would become available and I made more money. Ultimately help solve annoying problems for people and they’ll pay you to “sort it out” for them.

Random Update: I was supposed to be working this bank Holliday at work (overtime) but randomly got canceled last minute as due to a technical issue my details were not updated. I didn’t bother fighting it and went home. I then partied until…jk. I went onto my computer and kept on with my self taught path of JavaScript so I can make progress towards a react native cross platform app idea. I keep making mistakes but I’m using spaced repetition and constantly self testing so I learn by doing and not following along blindly to tutorials and online courses.

Future goal: Someone said I should go into real estate. That is my long term goal and I plan to buy a rental property in a few years. However as MJ said, you make money with investments once you’ve made a large chunk of money with a business first.

Random ideas: This week I heard the following comments that people were about to pay for-
1. Driveway wall blasting (make it look cleaner and newer).

2. Gutter cleaning.

3. Wall skimming (me so it’s smoother and can be painted on better).

4. Carpet cleaning (hard to remove marks and stains).

5. Clothes tailoring (women who have lost weight but don’t want to get rid of their favourite clothes).

6. Filling takeaway food (lots and lots in the area but some give poor portions or overcharge).

7. Lots of car problems (I’m surprised why every mechanic isn’t a millionaire).

8. Plumbing issues (as above but for plumbers).

9. Winter stuff like gloves (weather is changing already and likely to snow soon here).

10. This one is something I’ve bought due to the amount of people getting it. Flasks for holding tea. The newer designs have plenty of value skews (cheap, hand holding material so you don’t burn, secure top closers to prevent spills, different colours, higher quality and easy to wash etc).

Oh and before I forget, I’ve attached some nicely gathered cash.

Incredible action taking, grit, and hustle.

Congrats my friend, and I appreciate the progress thread.
