Hello all,

I’m humbly asking for help. I don’t know if this is the right forum to ask this in, but if not please direct me to the right forum.

I’m struggling with finances. I’m over spending, not happy with my job, and definitely not getting paid what I’m worth.

I’m up to my eye balls in debt! I’ve had 4 repos on my car. My bank account is over drawn constantly and I can’t seem to get out of this financial hole. I need help! I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I don’t know why I can’t conquer this debt, and it is the highest mountain I have to climb if I ever want to be successful. I’m not afraid to share these faults because I want them to change. I’m so tired of living like this and it just seems like I can’t get out of this hole.

I’m looking for a coach or mentor that can help me conquer this because I’m having trouble doing it on my own. Any help and advice that anyone can give me is humbly appreciated.

I am a financial consultant.

Get two bank accounts so that once your pay or income arrives, transfer part of it (x percent)to another account that you would NOT touch.

Review your bills and cut unecessary expense, especially those recurring subscriptions.

These two could help.

Overspending is dangerous, even worse when you aren't aware of that.

Before you even begin to think about pursuing the next venture or read the next book to give you answers, look within yourself and start the journey to become self aware. Want to climb out of debt and have an abundant life? I think you need to start by looking within and see what actions in your life have led you to this point of debt, insecurity, fear, and doubt. You know how people say success is a process and it compounded by daily habits? Well the same applies to people who end up in the dumps. What kind of people become 'successful'? It's the people who are disciplined, practice gratitude, and have a strong WHY to ignore the noise and achieve peace with their life. Striving to be a better version of themselves everyday. The people who have a negative sense of beliefs or who have low self worth will never achieve material, emotional, or spiritual wealth - they will just sabotage themselves consciously, or unconsciously. They want handouts and they want a life jacket to save them. Hard truth is, ain't no one saving you homie. I've done this myself and know tons of people who do as well.

PM me if you just want to talk and unload. I'm no where near a 'mentor' or coach but I like to help people in any way I can.

I'm actually dead serious but up to you.
read Dave Ramsey, but I’ve also read Millionaire fastlane . Maybe my original post was to vague. I need advice, tips, and tricks, that’s a definite. But I’m not just begging for help without putting in the work myself.

I feel as though I’m stuck in purgatory. I’ve weighed out the budget backwards and forwards. I’m over spending by $300 each month. I’m trying to get multiple ideas grounded and rooted but I would like to launch them soon. I can’t seem to close that $300 gap. I’m looking for a second jobs. I’m trying to monitize an Instagram page. I’m recording content on my phone because I don’t have a laptop. Can’t afford one at the moment. I’m doing everything I can. I’m open to learning under someone. Watching and learning and understanding their process.

I’m not just begging for help without putting in the work myself. But thank you. I appreciate the suggestion. Any others?

Watch Dave Ramsey on Youtube for FREE. Your initial question was DEBT. You don't need a mentor or coach to free you from it.

Overspending is a big problem. The insidious thing is that it doesn't matter how high your income is. Uncontrolled spending soaks up all the money you make and more.

I'm not a coach per se, but I'll offer an easy trade if you want. PM me and I'll send you a quicksheet we made to help people get spending under control. It's not a public product yet. In exchange, let me know what you think of it, and if it helps you. I'll also talk with you by phone or skype, and maybe we can figure out a way to fix the problem.

You don't spend too much money, you earn too little.

Set priorities in your life.

Put aside some time for health & relationships every day.

The rest of the day focus on earning more money.

Try simple things that generates additional cashflow quickly. You can find hundreds of ideas about hustling for cash here on the forum.

Over time reevaluate and grow into more longterm sustainable things.

You need to make more money, it’s much easier to make an extra $300 then save $300 when you are already running as tight as you can.

To make more money you do not need to post videos on social media, you need to make some sales, even if it’s just selling time.

You could easily make $300 driving for uber. If you don’t have a car there’s other apps where you do things for money.

The better option would be to read the threads on here about hustling and flipping things on Craigslist. Gary Vee does it in his videos too so you could watch them.

As for managing money the best system I have come across is the barefoot investor, an Australian book but his system and thinking is relevant anywhere.

However none of these books or systems will solve the problem of either your expenses being too high or your income being too low.

We don't know how much he earns.

I disagree with adding hustle jobs onto a regular job. Driving for uber after work? Ok, but then when do you work on your business and make sales?

End result of working two jobs instead of just one you don't like? Maybe burnout, or a drinking habit supported by the uber earnings? Might work for you guys, but it sounds like the wrong direction to me.

At least if you add a hustle, make it something you can transition into a business (and not a full time owned job).

My reply was in relation to his reply not the OP.

He doesn’t even had a laptop, and is posting on Instagram thinking that it will make him money. I could be wrong but I assumed he is on a very low income, anyone on a high income wanting to be an entrepreneur who has got themselves into a hole would have at least bought a laptop on the way.

When your income is that low making $300 a month is going to be a lot easier than saving $300 because you are very likely already living very small.

He is in no position to start a business, he needs to get himself into a position where he can. If uber is going to stress him out so much he developes a drinking problem, then again, he is in no position to start a business.

But you are right, we need to see the income and expenses and debts to be able to really know, looks like you’ve offer him to dm you them so you can help, I hope you can.

Without someone looking at the numbers, no can help you, but you. If you are $300 short, you must figure out why and where you can cut expenses. Or you must make more money. How about doing both. You are trying, but you aren't getting your finances balanced. If this goes on for too long, others will make the decision about how and what for you. And you won't like the results.

@BookwormMitch Yeah, it wouldn't be hard to make an extra $300/mo. He did ask about spending though, so I wanna help with that if I can. And spending is a valid problem, regardless of income. I've seen plenty of high income people with no freedom, living paycheck to paycheck. The hole only gets deeper as the lifestyle gets more expensive.

The drinking habit comment was sortof tongue-in-cheek ;) But I do think it could be demotivating to aim for business ownership and end up with two zero-business-experience jobs in the mean time. At least go with freelancing and learn to network, market, sell, and service. And hone a skill. And learn the problems your customers have so that you can design products or service packages for them.

(But also, don't spend the extra income...)

That laptop comment got me thinking... @Tyren3402 do you have computer skills that you plan to use for business? Try trading for a computer if you have a specific use for it. Craigslist, or go networking with local business people letting them know you have <skill> and need <laptop>.

Hello all,

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I don’t know why I can’t conquer this debt, and it is the highest mountain I have to climb if I ever want to be successful. I’m not afraid to share these faults because I want them to change. I’m so tired of living like this and it just seems like I can’t get out of this hole.

Hey Tyren,

So you know about Dave Ramsey, you understand about debt, and you're determined to do what it takes to get out of this mess so that you can build your financial future.

And something is not working.

But we're not sure what or why.

(Just for context, when I introduced myself to this forum, I was in a similar situation - loaded with debt and spending more than I made each month. So I know what it feels like to be in that place where despite freezing all spending and living really frugally, you STILL can't get your income and expenses to break even. Anyway, I say that just because I want you to know that what I say next comes from a place of deep compassion and really wanting you to get onto some stable footing. It is NO FUN to be in those circumstances. I'm still digging myself out of the debt pit, but I am finally breaking even, I'm about to pay off my 2nd last credit card, and things are moving in the right direction for me regarding picking up client work and supplementing my income.)

OK so your post raises some questions. And the answers to these questions might help you you to develop insight into your own situation so that you can see where you can create a plan.
  • Was there ever a time in your life where things WERE working for you financially?
    • If so, what were you doing differently then or what circumstances triggered a change? Can you arrange to have your circumstances align more closely with the way that they used to be?
    • If not, then a lot of your battle will be around mindset and choices. Recognize and acknowledge that you don't yet have a picture in your head of how to handle your finances and take the advice of people like Rabby who have offered to help.
  • Is there a deeper issue that is causing you to overspend in spite of your best intentions? For instance, are you turning to spending money for solace when you're upset or stressed? If so, it may be that you've trained your brain to seek a dopamine hit in that area and you need to re-train it the way you'd approach an addiction.
  • Have you ever looked at exactly WHAT you're spending every penny on? If not, try tracking your expenses. Just write down every single thing you buy, every single bill you pay, etc. and make a big list, and keep adding up the totals. Do it for a couple of months to see what your baseline is, and categorize your expenses into logical categories. If you haven't ever done this, it's a simple step that can help you to identify where you can make some changes.
One last thought: It's very possible that you are extremely stressed about this. If you are stressed, your body is flooded with cortisol, the stress hormone. If you're stewing in your own cortisol, you'll feel the effects of it at every level, from your physical well-being to your mental well-being.

Plus, your brain may be in survival mode, and when that's the part of your brain that you're using, you aren't able to exercise your critical reasoning powers to the fullest extent possible.

I mention this is not to shame you; any normal person would experience the same thing. Experiencing repeated defeat in an area like budgeting and finances is scary and frustrating and stressful. (I was literally being pickled in my own cortisol in October when I posted my intro thread.)

But here's a simple technique that you can cultivate to get your "frontal lobe" back in the driver's seat (speaking from experience) so that you can stop reacting out of terrified, survival-mode thinking and start reacting out of measured, thoughtful, strategic decision making:

Cultivate gratitude.

Your brain can't do fear and gratitude at the same time.

And by changing your thinking, you can start to change your behaviors.

Best of luck. You'll get there.

I was seriously going to suggest him. You have a spending problem. 4 repos man... This is blatant irresponsibility. That needs to get under control before you start down the fastlane path.

Dave Ramsey has a book Total Money Makeover is literally a step by step plan to get control of your finances.
You can find it in a library it covers lots of things. After reading his book can listen to his podcast to hear other people struggling with various financial issues and succeeding.

Basically if you are working and $300 short a month then
a) you have not cut enough spending
b) you are not working enough

For myself I was in debt and sucked with my finances, i read his book and followed his plan. Sold my car took transit 2hrs each way to work before moved into a cheaper place close to work, got an even crappier second job. His plan works for getting the basics of personal finance.

Hope helps..
