Hi Sean,

Really great and valuable post. Just a couple of quick questions:-

How come you recommend limiting services to just one niche?

Also, I know you outsource your operations but can you point me to any good sources for learning about social media engagement from your experience?

Thanks for the post and in anticipation of your feedback.

Sorry for this question...I now both of you are here on the forum, but would like to get an objective answer from someone who already completed the courses. What do you guys recommend? Fox School or Sean Marshall-Clone my online marketing business?

Yeah, it sounds then, like it's a matter of finding the right crowd - an interested, paying market. And what your offer could be - something that would really get people interested.

This, I figure one I can find a crowd then I can get an idea of what I might have to offer they might want. However, finding the crowd is hard.

I recommend finding a niche to get started. You're not stuck in that niche. You can always add more later. Also, you can niche by industry or by service. Or both. But getting started in a specific area/industry helps you sell more, feel more comfortable with your services, etc.

For learning about social media engagement, I really like Social Media Examiner. QuickSprout University has some good stuff as well.

I can't speak for Fox School but for me personally, I don't do any hard sells. I put up a detailed sales page that shares all of the info. I try to treat people like grown ups and not use any cheesy marketing practices. You either want to start an agency or you don't.

Not sure if that helps. :)

I'm in @Fox Web School and learned a ton about selling. It shortened my process for at least 2 years.

Looking to follow Sean's course as well because I would like to add services and recurring revenue with digital marketing.

I think both can serve you very well but it depends what you want.

If you want cash in a pretty short period and want to learn how to sell for future ventures, but not really want an agency in the long term, go with Fox.

If you want an agency in the long term with recurring revenue, go with Sean.

If you want both (like me), choose both.

I live near Palmer College of Chiropractic. The entire Quad Cities area is saturated with Chiropractic practices because of it. How do I lend out my sevices out to them? Do I make an appointment for an adjustment then tell them what my business can do for them?(After I get the adjustment of course. I really need one anyway)

What if I don't know anything about SEO or Social Media or website design? Do I just outsource to Fiver or Upwork?

I've received a LOT of messages asking for a discount on the course. I'm glad that people are interested. I created this course specifically to make it a tool to get you started.

If you're interested in the full course, just shoot me a message for no-brainer pricing on it.

Great post, thank you.
I've been looking into this before, this really motivated me again to get going! Doing the start-up now!

Question though, outsourcing work is a great way of working... though... I'm Dutch, my future clients will be Dutch. The people on Fiverr/Upwork/Onlinejobs don't speak Dutch.

How do I solve this kind of awkward problem?

It depends on the services you plan on offering. Content is really the only place you need to think about that. Most other stuff (website design, SEO, etc) can be done as Dutch as a second language, if at all.

Don't let that hold you back!

Thank you for your reply.

It kind of worries me because the part 'social media advertising' won't work with Dutch clients. I'm not going to write all that content myself but someone who doesn't speak Dutch won't do that either...?

SEO won't work as well I think because the searching terms will be Dutch, a thing my 'employees' wont speak or read. I think I'm really limited because of this? Or am I seeing it wrong?

These are the packages I want to offer. Is it any good? And how hard is it to find people for this? Since I'm Dutch and so will be my clients. And how do I do it with the costs for advertising, is it included in the monthly price or an extra fee?

This is awesome! Keep up the good work. I suggest to find groups on meetup.com. That's how I'm networking

Those packages look good - you'll have to just try them with the market to be sure. As far as finding people to do the work, that should be relatively easy with those prices. As for the costs, those would be extra because it's based on how much their budget is.

Alright. So how do you calculate what extra you need? How do I know how much I'm going to spend on advertising for the client?

Is it better to sell first before starting your own website and business entity or the other way around?

Sean, how do you go about picking the type of business to market for i.e. chiropractors. Are there any things you look for to decide that type of business is a good one to specialise in?

Thanks for your post by the way!

Alright. So how do you calculate what extra you need? How do I know how much I'm going to spend on advertising for the client?

That depends on how much they want to spend. Easy as that. If they want to drop €1000/month (just an example) on advertising, that's up to them and their budget. When you're getting started, you can always advise them to start small, track the results, and grow from there.

How much you have to spend is up to the client's budget.

Always be selling. Sell from the get-go. The business entity (keep in mind, this is just my opinion - not legal counsel) can wait until you're sure you have a real business - basically, that you can actually sell and get clients.

The website? That can be done in a couple of hours. It shouldn't keep you from selling. You can even get it done on Fiverr or Upwork in a day for under $100.

When I started out in 2010, I spoke with anyone and everyone I could - all business owners. Eventually, organically, I ended up focusing on what I call "home services" - roofers, painters, contractors, etc. Basically, they had the need, they had the budget, and they did not have the know-how.

So that answers your second question also. Look for businesses that have/see the need and have the budget - that's actually the most important actually!
