I’ve personally been using ChatGPT almost every single day ever since I first saw the post by MJ talking about it. It’s amazing.
But, I’ve seen a lot of people posting about using Chat to provide content for courses and then using sites like Pictory & Tome to do all the heavy lifting to create videos. Or using Chat to write books and then sell them on Amazon.
Now, I don’t have the data yet to back me up on this one, but my gut tells me that with the influx of new content flooding the market, it’s gonna get commoditized really fast. In other words, low barrier to entry (which breaks one of MJ’s commandments) will most likely mean a much more crowded marketplace and a race to the bottom.
And, it will be that much harder to stand out in a sea of unoriginal content and actually spot real expertise.
Don’t get me wrong, I love ChatGPT, but…
Is There A Better Way To Use ChatGPT?
Yep!
I feel one of the best ways to use ChatGPT is together with a real business. Instead of using it simply to produce commoditized content, you’re using it as a tool to start & scale your business faster & just plain get more work done.
A while back I posted about why I like the digital marketing agency model and how it’s worked out really well for me.
With the sheer amount of info on this awesome forum, and then also YouTube, Reddit, etc, I already thought it was easier than ever to start a digital marketing agency (literally ALL of the info is already out there).
And now with tools like Chat, it’s never been faster to get a digital marketing agency off the ground and profitable in record time.
So it’s no longer a question of knowledge or time. It’s just a question of whether or not you’re going to actually DO it. Of course, this applies to pretty much any business model.
Starting A Digital Marketing Agency From Scratch In 2023
In the post I wrote a while back (this one: How to Start a Digital Marketing Agency & Hit $5K in Less than 90 Days) I broke down starting a digital marketing agency into 7 steps.
They are:
And for context, I’ve had my own digital marketing agency since 2010. It’s allowed me to live in other countries, travel, and generally have a lot of time and freedom with my family. And yes, I’m married with 3 kids (as in, I’m not just some single 20 year old living in Bali for $1000/mo).
Like I mentioned in the original post, I think a digital marketing agency has a TON of advantages (easy to start, little to no startup capital, etc). Yes, it breaks one of MJ’s commandments (Barrier to Entry), but I’ve found that’s solved by simply taking action. If you actually start your business, get a paying client or two, then you’ve done more than 99% of wantrepreneurs out there. A lot of people, even with all the knowledge at their fingertips, still don't make it work. Crazy.
But now you have tech to help you every step of the way…
So I gave this post a cute little title of: ChatGPT + SwaS + 1 Client + 8 Hours of Work = $5K in 7 days
So to back that up, I’ll break down exactly how to do it all.
***Big Fat Disclaimer***
Everything below is totally just an example for illustrative purposes. My numbers are super loosey goosey to make a point. Obviously, how much you could potentially make is going to differ drastically based on the niche you choose, the services you offer, how much you charge, the region/country you’re serving, and so on.
CHAT GPT…
First, you’re gonna use Chat to get the basics out of the way fast. Stuff like choosing a niche, company name, etc. Trust me, these are things that people can spend weeks and weeks on! But now, you can do it all in under an hour.
***Another Big Fat Disclaimer***
You should NOT rely on ChatGPT alone to get all of your data. Go to YouTube. Look at ads. Go to industry associations and blogs. Visit business websites. And of course, nothing beats speaking with real business owners.
You get the point.
BUT, you can use Chat to give you a massive head start. Just get out of the harbor, adjust course if needed as you learn on the fly.
Side note - I like using the AIPRM Chrome extension to put Chat on steroids.
1 - Choose a Niche
To start, you’ve got to choose a niche. I talk about why in the other post, but to get started, get specific. You can go wide later after you’ve got some sales coming in.
If you already know people in a certain industry or you personally have a background in one, then run with that.
Just to show you, this is what I just asked Chat:
What are some examples of small to midsize businesses that need help with marketing online?
Not the best question I know but I got this back:
Hmmmm… OK. I followed up with this:
Any more to #4?
I got this:
For the sake of this post, I’m just gonna run with Medical Spas.
2 - Find a Real Problem This Industry Deals With
Now, I need to find out where Med Spas struggle when it comes to growing their businesses online.
I asked Chat this:
What are ways that medical spas struggle when marketing online?
And got this:
#4 says limited budget. That’s very interesting. #5 says limited expertise & #3 says lack of online visibility? Super interesting!
3 - Find a Way To Solve That Problem
Now, to solve the problem, we can use Chat for this as well. The final paragraph above got chopped off but it says this:
To overcome these challenges, medical spas can work with a digital marketing agency that specializes in healthcare marketing. A specialized agency can help medical spas navigate compliance regulations, develop a differentiated brand, improve their online visibility, and execute an effective marketing strategy that fits their budget and goals.
Your goal should be to get specialized. You need to zero in on the exact problems the med spas deal with and then you can attract new clients quickly.
Now, as you start thinking about a way to solve the problem, you want to get an idea of how much each new patient is worth to the Med Spa. This gives you an idea of their own revenue and what they’d be willing to spend to solve the problem of not having enough patients.
I asked Chat this:
What are typical med spa services and how much do they cost?
And got this:
Hmmmm… Botox at $500 per treatment (average of $400-$600)... that’s very interesting. Let’s file that away for the moment.
And before I move onto SwaS, besides using Chat, you can research the competition. You can use good old fashioned Google for this. We’ll come back to this.
PLUS SWAS…
First, if you’re not sure what SwaS is, it stands for Software WITH a Service. Unlike pure SaaS (software as a service), SwaS usually (not always) involves a human element.
You can go pure SaaS, but you can quickly get commoditized and it’s hard to stand out. When you offer a service, you’re incorporating a human service element to it. This means it’s a higher perceived value and you can charge more.
With Swas, you’re leveraging the automation of software, together with the personal touch of a real human.
To be clear, you should still replace as many human activities with software as possible. But, you have the human touch just to ensure everything is going smoothly and of course, to communicate with the client & provide good customer service.
Now, with the Med Spas as the chosen niche, what software would actually be helpful for them? There are a ton of software solutions out there but one of my favorites is GoHighLevel. I’ve been using it personally in my own agency for about two years now.
I use it mostly for automations and some of the features that every business should have like website chat, all-in-one inbox, missed call text back, etc.
4 - Create a Dynamite No-Brainer Offer
Now, we need to create a great offer that’s going to attract Med Spa owners.
For starters, you can simply use Google for this. Put in something like:
Med Spa leads
Or
How do I get new patients for my med spa?
What’s coming up? What kind of offers do you see in the ads?
When in doubt, use this formula:
X to Y without Z in (period of time)
or
How to Get from (Present Sucky Reality) to (Really Fantastic Result) without (sacrifice on their part - time/money/etc) in (XX days/weeks)
Or something along those lines. You can also add a risk reversal as well.
With Med Spas, I like the botox idea. So I might try something like this:
Get 10 New Botox Bookings in the Next 10 Days without Spending a Dime on Ads, or You Don’t Pay.
“But Sean, how are we going to get those 10 leads?”
Great question, amigo!
Your offer is directly tied to your services so you want to make sure you can actually deliver. Plus, you want to make sure it’s actually going to drive real business.
Hint: don’t offer a service just because you think it’s a good thing (i.e. - posting on Twitter is not the ideal way to drive new business for a plumber).
If you’re going to use Chat and/or GoHighLevel in your business (which you should), you might consider one or more of the following services:
The best kinds of B2B offers are the ones that have the promise of growth, revenue, more sales. Promising more reviews is good. Promising page 1 of Google is OK. But those are just means to an end (more revenue).
Why not 80/20 this and go straight for the revenue part?
This is why I personally am a fan of running a database reactivation because it drives revenue fast. You look like a champ by making them money quickly and you simply leveraged the right tools and offer to run an offer to their own list of customers.
5 - Build a Landing Page
Now that you’ve got an offer, together with a service, you need to build a landing page - your basecamp online. This could be a single page, part of your funnel, or a page on your website. This will contain elements of your own brand (name, logo, etc).
This is where a lot of people can get stuck. They waste weeks or even months trying to get just the right business name, colors, logos, website and all that.
Spoiler alert - it doesn’t totally matter. Your offer and the results you get for the client are waaaay more important than your cutesy website. And with the help of both ChatGPT and GoHighLevel, it’s never been easier.
Let’s go back to Chat and get some help to speed up this process. Let’s start with the business name.
I asked Chat this:
What are some good business name ideas for a digital marketing agency specializing in med spas?
And got this:
I like a few of the names on this list. If you wanted to, you could dig even deeper or get more creative. Just literally ask Chat to come up with 10 more creative names
Keep in mind, you want to go to a domain registrar like GoDaddy and see if you can get the domain. Also, be sure to just Google the business name and see what comes up. Obviously, if someone else has the business name, you’ll have to try something different.
Let’s just go with the first one.
I told Chat this:
Let's go with #1. What would be some good ideas for logos (including color schemes)?
And got this:
Not bad. It’s good enough to run with. Remember, our entire goal is speed. The faster you get this done, the faster you can get some clients coming in.
Now I can go to a place like Fiverr and basically hand over those instructions. Or, if you go to Canva and make your own logo. Obviously, it needs to look good, or at least, “good enough” to get going. You can always update later.
Then I asked for a slogan and got this:
I wanted the slogan to be a bit more catchy so I had Chat refine it a bit more:
I like “Attract. Convert. Thrive.” so I could run with this.
Now that you have your business name, slogan, logo, & colors, you can create a website and/or landing page. You do NOT need a full website to get started. You just need a quick home online that you can funnel leads to.
If you use GoHighLevel, you can do this in a couple of clicks (either a full website or just a landing page). They have simple sites that are “good enough” to get started.
If you’re not in love with any of those, you can literally go to a place like ThemeForest, grab a great theme with a 1-click demo import, and swap out the content with your own. Oh, and you can you Chat to write the copy for you.
PLUS 1 CLIENT…
6 - Run Ads to Your Landing Page
This is already getting pretty long so I’ll make this short.
To make this all work, you need to actually get a client. Even just one. Followed by as many more as you can handle, every single month…
The fastest way to get new clients is to run ads. Trust me. I’ve done the BNI/Chamber of Commerce networking thing. I’ve done the LinkedIn thing. I’ve done the posting in FB and LinkedIn groups thing. I’ve done the cold email thing. I’ve done the referral thing.
I’ve done it all.
All those things do work. They just take time. And my entire goal is to help you get at least 1 new client in record time. And to do that, you should run ads.
To put it into perspective, I’ve had ads go live in the AM, and on the very same day, I’ve closed new leads into paying clients.
Also, if the prospect wants to grow with ads, it’s been super effective to say, “Just so you know, the ad that you saw and responded to, we just started it this morning, and now you and I are talking. We can do the same for you.”
So, you’ve already got your offer, now you’re going to take your offer and run it on Facebook. It’s the easiest of the platforms to run ads. Yes, YouTube and Google (even TikTok now) are good, but FB is still the easiest.
Choose to either make a video (a selfie handheld video seems to be working well) or make a graphic on Canva. If you’re doing a graphic, really ugly color combos seem to work to get people to stop scrolling (think yellow with pink lettering).
If you need some inspiration, just go to the Facebook Ads Library, punch in keywords related to your niche, and see what comes up. Look at ads that have had a long run time because they’re the ones that are performing.
Also, with FB ads, using lead forms/lead ads seem to be working pretty well right now. FB likes it when it keeps users on its platform and running lead ads plays nicely with that.
Then, have your leads integrate with whatever CRM you’re using (again, I use GoHighLevel) and get instant notifications to follow up (or you can even automate the follow up, nurture, and booking).
Again, there’s a TON of info right here on this forum about how to run FB ads but this will get you pointed in the right direction.
7 - Book Calls and Close Deals
I don’t want to make this part sound too easy, but, helping a business owner see that you can provide them with tools and services to help them make more money is not a hard sell at all. If you manage to get on the phone with them, there’s a big fat part of them that wants what you’re offering.
The hard part comes in when having to convince them why they should trust you, and pay you, when they’ve been burned before by other agencies. And trust me, if they’ve been in business for any more than say a year, then they’ve most likely been burned.
Some of the stories are really sad and it personally motivates me to get the word out about my own agency, because, well, IMO, we do things the right way.
Anyway.
The entire goal is to get the client on the phone. Use your offer, your ad, your landing page, and your calendar to automatically book the call with the prospect.
Assuming everything goes well, you get on the phone with the prospect, find out their pains and their goals, and then present a plan to help them with your services.
I have my own sales questions that I use but, because I’m preaching about how great Chat is to help you kickstart your own agency, let’s see what it comes up with.
I asked:
Give me a great example of a good sales script to use when trying to close a business owner as a client for my digital marketing services
And I got:
I followed up with this:
Can you give me more examples of discovery questions to ask, especially those that will help the business owner understand how not marketing online will hurt their ability to generate revenue?
And got this:
You can use this as a basis for your own sales script.
Keep in mind, besides your offer, it will ultimately boil down to the business owner making a gut feeling on the phone that they like & trust you.
So… be likable. And be trustable.
How much people like you is up to how “cool” you are. I can’t teach that.
But, I can help you with the trust part.
You can offer a 100% money-back guarantee.
“But Sean, this isn’t a product that they can just return. I’m going to be doing real services, like real human hours doing something.”
Yep. I know. And I didn’t offer a guarantee for the longest time because of that.
But a mentor of mine who has a similar business once told me, “Sean, even if the client signs a contract with your terms, it doesn’t matter. They can always try to do a chargeback with their credit card company. So you might as well roll with that and build it into your own sales process.”
Ever since then, I started adding a full 30 day money back guarantee. It definitely sets my agency apart from the others out there.
As always, it’s up to you but if the business owner is shopping around, having that guarantee might help you edge out the competition.
PLUS 8 HOURS OF WORK…
From the time you first make contact with the business owner, to taking their credit card, to running services for them, you’re always selling them on the next step. Every step moves them forward. Even when you take their CC and begin services, you’re selling them on the next month of services and so on.
With all of the services you can offer, you should focus first on getting real tangible results that the client can see. If you’re promising to post on Twitter, you can show the work, but if it doesn’t lead to new business, they won’t care too much.
In my experience, one of the fastest ways to get tangible results in the shortest time possible is to do a list activation (aka database reactivation) of some sort. As in, you’re gonna get a hold of the business owners list (Quickbook, database, etc) and run an approved offer to that list
It could be an offer they’re already running elsewhere (Groupon, mailers, etc) or one you think would work well for them (based on your research of what others in their niche are running).
Then you simply text it out to their list (use Twillio/GoHighLevel for this). You load it up, review it & test it like crazy, then hit send. Don’t send it out to their entire list at once. Chunk it down and watch the results with each batch.
You can also choose to run a referral campaign or review campaign. Same thing - use their database and run it via Twillio/GoHighLevel. New referrals result in new business. New reviews don’t directly mean new business but they certainly add to the overall image of the business and the owners are always happy to get new reviews.
You can also consider becoming an admin to their Google Business Profile. Even with just a little bit of clean up there can result in some pretty decent results within the Google results.
None of this is going to take more than a day to complete.
...EQUALS $5K (ROI)
OK, up above I chose to work with Med Spas for this example. And I liked the idea of helping them book more Botox appointments which averaged $500 per treatment.
And that’s just for one treatment. If they do their job well, every time they get a new patient in the door, they potentially raise the lifetime value of that patient by offering more services to them.
What I’m getting at is you have to help the business owner see how much a new or returning patient could mean to them from a hard revenue number viewpoint.
In other words, what’s the potential lifetime value of a patient? You should ask them. They might not know but that’s OK (it only helps them realize they need you that much more…)
To go back to your offer, let’s say you’re going to run a list activation. Let’s say they give you a list of 5,000 patients. Note: these numbers are just to give you an example & we have to assume that their list is relatively clean & responsive. It also takes into account that the offer is appealing enough to drive action.
That said, let’s do some quick “napkin math”:
Database: 5,000 people
Response rate: 1% - 5% (let’s just go with 1% to lowball it & keep math simple)
Offer price: $500
Equals: $25,000 of new potential revenue for your client (50 people asking for $500 offer)
If you charge $5K for this service (you’re going to do it all for them), you can show them how they can get a 5x ROI by one single investment with you. What’s more, you can add a little hashtag to every single lead so that they know it’s attributed to the work you did.
So you can put that back into your offer. Before I had:
Get 10 New Botox Bookings in the Next 10 Days without Spending a Dime on Ads, or You Don’t Pay.
But now, with some data, you can do the math for them. So imagine being a Med Spa owner and seeing an ad that looks like this:
“$25K in New Botox Services Booked For You in the Next 30 Days (without Spending a Dime on Ads) or You Don’t Pay.”
Then you can back it up with real case studies.
Naturally, these numbers are going to vary wildly by industry. You can’t charge a nail salon $5K and expect to drive them $25K of new business in 30 days… maybe lifetime value of each of their customers, BUT they’re not gonna see that right now…
When you make a business owner money, within days, they fall in love with you. You can then sell them ongoing monthly services. You could even offer them a discount if they pay a year upfront (SaaS companies do this all the time). They’ll literally have the budget to pay you because you just created it for them!
IN 7 DAYS…
Now, this is the final part of my cute little equation but I’ve already outlined everything.
You can do ALL of the above in 7 days. You can go crazy fast because most of what’s listed here is totally in your control. In other words, you just have to do the work… and you’re gonna have Chat & other software do the heavy lifting for you.
There are a few things that are outside of your direct control:
I hope you’re starting to see a new way you can create (or scale) a real business using Chat as a tool.
Going forward, I would also consider:
It’s never been easier. Seriously. I would have LOVED to have had these tools when I got started. But, I have them now and I’ve incorporated them right into our services/systems.
Anyway, a bit of a long post but I hope it’s helpful for yallz. As always, this is just my own opinion based on my own experience and you should always do your own due diligence to make sure this would work for you with your chosen business model, service, and industry.
If you have any questions, just let me know!
- Online reputation management - basically, get reviews for your med spa clients via automated workflows
- Google Business Profile - local search optimization (basically, clean up the GMB profile, get more reviews, and post content)
- How fast FB approves your ad (but usually it’s less than a day)
- How fast you get a client to close (it may take a couple days and massive follow up)
- How fast a client will get your their database (but if you do an onboarding call you can get it right then)
I hope you’re starting to see a new way you can create (or scale) a real business using Chat as a tool.
Going forward, I would also consider:
- Services - always look to refine your services with an 80/20 mindset making sure your services are actually driving the best results for your clients. Clients that are getting results (aka sales) are clients that stick around. Clients that stick around allow you to scale.
- Systems - always software & AI as much as you can - whenever possible, use software to get the job done.
- Staff - when you need the human touch (which you should), start with one virtual assistant.
- Sales - your #1 job is to drive revenue.
