Last year I got up every day for 40+ days at 6am, went to the Gym and started my day off with 1ish hours working out.

I found the hour to myself and my own thoughts really helped set me up for the day but after a bout of digestive problems I fell out of the pattern and its been hard to start again.

Do you find getting up early helps set you up for success?
OR It doesnt matter when you get up just so long as you know how to focus yourself?

Any tips?!

It"s not hard. Just do it.

Set your alarm right now for 6AM and just do it.

YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've always had sleeping issues. I am either a total night owl or I have some form of insomnia. And as a very light sleeper it takes at least an hour of lying down for me to sleep. Basically what I am saying is getting up early has always been a struggle for me.

But after a couple of hours of productive activity, it's crazy how much I've been able to get done by afternoon. Waking up at 12pm is a bad habit (I work a lot of second shift) and for some reason every time I do it, it gives me this lazy feeling as if my entire day has been shot.

There is no way I could do 6am; at least not right now. But for the last week I've been able to wake up consistently around 8:00am and I've been noticeably in a better more-positive mood.

Personally, as long as I wake up on my own and not by an alarm or something waking me up, I am much better for the day. I usually go to sleep between 1am-2am, wake up at 6:42am to take my grandson to school, back in bed by 8am and sleep until 10am-11:30am. But I'm usually the odd ball of the bunch :)

I always feel anything after 8am and its a wasted morning.... I just need to get back to the 6am thing... after a few weeks I used to wake up at 6am on autopilot....

Gonna set my alarm and try to get back to it for tomorrow....

That's freaking awesome.

You should be f'ing proud.

Congrats!

Now set your alarm for 6am again.

Look out for your body.

Don't be to hard on it from the start.

Maybe just take a walk, write something, read something.

But set the alarm for 6am again.

Momentum.

Firstly, good job being committed to a process. Now that you experienced consistency, you have access to a wealth of information, i.e. your experience. You have some ideas of what works for you. So the next question is why was that morning routine working? What about it you found pleasurable? Next, once you understand WHY it worked, you simply to incorporate those whys into your current schedule.

e.g. I realized that the reason I kept going to a job I hated for a year is because of the FEAR of losing the 'security' that it brought, i.e. a sure salary. Since I learned from my experience that that fear maintained the behavior of going to work consistently, I've put fear to use for my more important purposes. I found a website called Stickk where you can set up stakes as you commit to your goals. If you don't attain your goal or stick to whatever commitment you chose, you can lose money. It's the same principle of a fear of loss, and it helped me to get a lot done for my business. You can use the same principle without that website.

The point is, we have to learn from our experiences.

Hope that tip helps.

-M.

I think it depend on people. personally I found myself more productive when I don’t force myself to wake up and allow my body, my mind to get the rest they ask. And then I can work during the day and do what I have to do as much as someone who always wake up early.

Some people find more motivation by setting up a rigourous schedule and feel satisfied and accomplished when they success to stick to what they plan.

Both way are good, you just need to pick up the option that suit you better.

I wake up 6AM every morning, not because of discipline but because I'm naturally a early-riser. There's nothing wrong with sleeping in later if that's what works for you IMO. What I find however is that I rarely accomplish anything worthwhile after 10PM.

+2 agree.

I've experimented a lot with sleep, and what I found really matters is being consistent with it.

(I.E. Sleeping and waking at the same times... I've also suffered from terrible sleeping habits).

But as of now my most productive hours are 6PM-2AM, only because I've been consistent with it.

I'm sure you can adapt to anything with consistency, but if you found what works for you, and have no real reason to change it, why change it?

For two and a half years now I hit the gym three to four times a week. I lost almost 30 kilos and feel great when I come home after a workout and a sauna.

Waking up at 06:00 am is no problem for me, the problem I that the gym opens up at 08:00 am except for the Monday and the Friday when they start at 07:00. A workout keeps me busy for a hour and a half. Together with showering and a sauna it's two hours. When I get home I did spend two and a half hours on something healthy and energy creating but lost half of a valuable morning.

Although working out gives me a lot of energy and keeps me healthy, what really helps me to get work done, I still get the feeling that I'm waisting productive mornings as I'm also a person which is the most productive in the morning and has less energy after noon.

Working out in the afternoon maybe a solution but doesn't appeal to me and am afraid that I'll skip workouts.
