The year is nearly done and while its just another number it is always good to look back and see how things went.

How do people on here feel about 2017?
Did you make the changes you wanted to see or will you need to try again?

I felt I made some huge progress in some areas while I will need to readjust in others.
- Doubled business income
- Travelled a lot
- Grew FB group and student groups substantially

But I need to fix:
- Lack of gym last few months
- Didn't make progress on YouTube channel
- Need new bigger goals to create huge action (I felt my goals were too easy for 2017 - I hit them about 2/3 of the way into the year)

What about yourself?

I know "only reading" and "only studying" can get to the point of becoming action-faking, and I believe I'm at that threshold as of right now.

But considering how I started the year, without ever reading any self-development book, without ever peeking outside of my world, it's been the best year of my life.

Discovering TMF , Unscripted and this forum were detrimental to me. I'm on slow gears riight now cause of my family spending holidays with me, but as soon as they leave, I'm gonna kick back into action.

Me and a friend got real deep in crypto, but we're considering 2017 as the year of learning. 2018 should be the year of experimenting/practicing and, maybe, the year of engagement. We already started with small actions towards mining and trading. Will develop more as soon as more money rolls in and we feel more confident about the market.

Overall, yes, 2017 was a great year. I can't believe how much I grew as a person and as a (at least for now) dreamtrepreneur.

To me, it's been a year of process.

- Some ideas I had didn't always work out. Some were hard and some were easy. But everything ALWAYS required a lot of work and thinking.

- I learned that I don't need a disruptive idea that turns into next Apple. I don't need to be the best to start with something. I just need to do things a little bit better in some way. Provide a little more value. Work more. Work smarter.

- Learned a lot by studying - and foremost - taking action. Progressed a lot here.

- Freelancing has learned me an INSANE amount of stuff about business. It's given me deep insights into some successful businesses. Learned lots of marketing, which I'll hopefully get to use for myself later down the road.

I need to:

- Get into the gym. Barely done any real workout in 5 months, haha! Lately, I've really noticed the negative effects it's had on my mind and mood.

- Make bigger goals for 2018 and take MASSIVE action. :) I know I'm capable of more, but sometimes I hold myself back.

- Freelance more, build some capital.

- Show more gratitude and love - especially to my fiancée who's always supporting me.

- Planning to start up a Fastlane business.

All in all, I haven't had any immense success. But I'm on my way...

And hell, I love the process! It's thrilling - and I wonder if I'll ever grow fully tired of it? Maybe it's the entrepreneurial heroin.

I had a really good year. I accomplished my goal of going from a standing start to quitting my job by learning an online based service - Started as general digital marketing but I quickly niched down to Facebook ad management.

This years macro goal is to become the most successful FB ads business in Scotland.

Easily the best year of my life. Not because it has all been amazing, but because it has been completely transformative. I'm probably going to make my own post soon going over a lot of these things, but in short:

January and February: I dropped out of college and then spent two months reading and brainstorming about business ideas. My notes are absolutely stacked with them. I also wrote a whole book in this time frame (my first fastlane attempt).

I also tried to start a business with my friend but this ended up not working out (way too ambitious of an idea and we just couldn't execute on it professionally).

March: I went to Thailand. This was the best month of my life. I feel nostalgic just thinking about it.

April and May: Two more months of more business attempts, self-education, and family drama. I actually tried to start a business with another friend which didn't work out either.

June: Three weeks in Europe with my best friend. I had an amazing time but felt guilty about it the whole trip. I really was trying to get away from the issues that were going on in my family and when I got back home there was no F*cking around.

July, August, September and October: These months are where I really committed. I moved back home to help my mother and I spent these 4 months developing my first eCommerce product, educating myself, and getting in the best shape of my life (still a work in progress of course).

November and December: The Launch of my first product and the (almost) foreclosure of my mom's house. I still don't know what is going to happen with my mom but we are doing our best!

Sales are coming in quickly already and I'm beyond ecstatic. I already know the next 3 products I am going to launch in this brand and the next brand that I want to work on. This is becoming Fastlane VERY fast.

TL;DR: This year I dropped out of college, failed at starting several businesses, traveled Thailand and some of Europe, moved back home to support my mother, got in incredible shape, and started my first fastlane business.

This is just the beginning and I'm beyond excited for what is to come!

Best year ever.
  • Finally saw decent results after dabbling for years.
  • Made a good deal with my boss to leave the company, in my favor.
  • Laying the fundament for big impact in 2018.
What really strikes me is that while 2017 went so quickly, I feel like a completely different person like 12 months ago.

What strikes me more is that last year I talked to people who had the same plans and ambitions as me, but are still at the same place.

The time to act is now, kids!

Wow. A lot can happen in a year...when you make it happen. You don't always realise the progress you're making when you're living each day at a time.

This year:

  • Got myself out of a "business partnership" that was going nowhere
  • Picked up three sources of self-employed income, the primary one being in a completely different line of work to what I've done before
  • Moved countries
  • Experimented with freelancing in online marketing - landing page design, funnels, autoresponders, AdWords management - realised that if I have to freelance to pay the bills, I'd much rather be on the phone selling than playing with copy, numbers and tech stuff
  • Went through @snowbank's incubator program
  • Paid off all my debts that had been a permanent fixture in my life and accumulated more in savings than I ever had in debts
  • Finally in the process of launching my next business. It's taken a lot longer than I would have liked to get to this point, but I'm very confident in both the idea and my ability to execute
  • I've let my gym game slide too. Badly. I've gone from fat to fit to fat to fit to fat to fit to fat again so many times now. Always less fat than the last time but still nowhere near good enough. Everything else is going so well and this is the one thing I consistently struggle with in life. It has to change - and this time for good.

2017 - I got lost, though I found myself but it was a fake one, tried a program and got hyped but didn't pushed through so back to square one. I think I have to reflect deeply about myself...my values, principles, goals, etc...and most importantly...start again!

First of all, a big thank you to Fox for posing these questions and making us think!

2017 Successes

1) Forming a better understanding of my own principles. Without clarity on your principles, making big decisions is much more difficult.
2) Committing to a business with strong evidence of consistent demand. It fulfills the CENTS framework, perhaps with a lowercase "t" at first.
3) Eliminating excuses for my lack of progress. The cause is simply inadequate action, which I am now addressing.

2018 Growth Areas
1) Reducing negativity. I think many people fall into a trap of social comparison too easily, and I'm no exception. I tend to make toxic self-judgments for being inexperienced in entrepreneurship and mostly clueless, but I need to remind myself most successful entrepreneurs didn't hit a home-run the first time they picked up a bat. I know I'm very smart, and capable, I just have to connect the right dots (I am sure this can be said for most people on the forum).
2) Improve relationships. As an introverted recluse, I need to work on spending more time with friends and the girl I've started dating. It gets lonely when you neglect social interaction.
3) Consistent action. I have been taking big action steps, but they are not consistent or routine. This needs to change. I am naturally very disorganized, which causes me to falter on my priorities. If anyone out there is an organization master, I would be open to recommendations on how to improve in this area.

- Cheers

It's been a terrible and awesome year at the same time. I'e taken one step back to take two forward and is going well. I'm utterly skint personally but the sites I run are growing well. I'm also learning an arsenal of new skills that will help out in a few years.
Next steps: keep at it.

I must admit, that I've come through rises and falls. And honestly, I needed it, because thanks to some situations I made some conclusions.

1. We should steadily work on ourselves. The more tasks I got, the more were solved. This year taught me that I'm able to solve problems, and I feel more confident than last years.

2. Travels expand our outlook on life. I visited some different and wonderful places and it gives the feeling that our world is incredibly interesting and intriguing.

3. Don't afraid of taking risks. The main thing is to take risks, but not silly things.

One of my favorite questions to ask people close to me is: "What are a couple things you think I need to do more of in 2018, and a things I need to do less of?"

The less of is the easier: for me its drinking, and xbox.

I've had an awesome year!!!
I graduated high school and realized that I had a passion for entrepreneurship more than anything else after reading MJ's books and being on the forum nonstop. I learned about Ecommerce and took action with a small investment of 200$ four months ago and have made some profits from that same product and have learned a good amount. Got to take a semester of community college to try it out. This year has been awesome and I can't wait for 2018. So much to learn and do!!!!

I think 2017 is the year I grew most as a person, which is good. Closed some good contracts and I'm going to make more money than I ever had next year. However, still disappointed in a few things, mostly:
  • Didn't make $1,000,000 which was sort of an unguided random number I put out there lol.
  • Way behind in fitness. Was doing good and then got caught up in the busyness of the business and went backwards a bit.

Although I don’t attach any real significance to the number used to count the solar year, I’ll say that 2017 was a good one for me in terms of business mindset and attitude. It didn’t great at first. On January 1, I was injured. My left elbow was dislocated. For several weeks, I was in constant, often excruciating pain, and it took a long time to regain my motion. By then, I had an Unscripted /Fastlane attitude: since I very adamantly wanted to recover, I did my exercises to the best of my ability. My physical therapist told me that some patients simply don’t regain their motion because they don’t exercise.

How about business? I completed the manuscript for my third book while still recovering from my injury. I also learned a lot more about my “authorpreneur” business. Finally, in December of 2017, I’m actually seeing some profitability: the amount I’ve spent on Amazon ads is less than the amount I’ll be paid in royalties. Add to that the sales of my books in a recent book fair, and the numbers are even better.

Mindset work: I’ve expanded my sphere of influence, grown my mailing list from 22 to over 400 subscribers, joined an intensive online study program with accountability, and convinced myself I can expand into writing for an older audience too.

There was a lot of growth, with the knowledge that I can - and want to - expand things further in 2018.

Honestly I'm not thrilled with 2017. I set some pretty big goals at the end of 2016. Lots of them in fact and while I achieved several of them, 2017 feels like a year of going through the motions. I have only myself to blame though. I've decided in 2018 I'm going to have less goals, but fewer larger goals. Emphasis on simplicity, focus and mastery.

Kudos to not attaching significance to a solar year. I feel the same way - hearing people talk about how 2018 will be a second chance for them makes me nauseous. Now is the time my friend!

well started the year off with my grandpa dieing, then pretty uneventful till after my birthday when i got so down i literally tryed killing myself, in a way that has undoubtedly caused brain damage from lack of oxygen, spent the next few months just trying to recover, still not over it feeling like i might of damaged my opportunity to take care of myself independently, it is what it is

An extremely eventful year for me... Doubt I will have so many big events happen in one year ever again.

January: My only brother gets married and I am his best man
February: My dad has a successful liver cancer operation. The tumor is fully removed!
Early May: My brother gives birth to his son, my first nephew
Late May: My wife gives birth to our second child, our first daughter
[During all this] Hustling like crazy to outsource all tasks in the business to accomplish my big goal of moving from Florida to Barcelona, Spain
September: We have to evacuate from hurricane Irma and end up in Mississippi. In the end fortunately nothing happened to our home or friends at home in FL, and it was a great learning experience for our team who worked a few days without our presence.
October: We finally achieve the big goal of moving to Spain! I was never proud of graduating from college since the whole thing was a joke, but this was a huge accomplishment for me. Finally financially free and location independent (or so I thought).
November: My wife and I decide to divorce while in Spain. A lot of nasty events see us back in the US, with lots of money and energy invested in lawyers, petitions, travels, etc. Hoping we still can solve this peacefully while not bankrupting ourselves or tying ourselves to one place.

I am certainly wishing for a less eventful and more stable 2018 :D

Best year ever. Got kicked in the butt by TMF , then Unscripted . 2017 was the year of slamming the brakes and turning around. Have learned more beneficial, life altering information from this forum than I have learned in the rest of my life, from anywhere else. I've mentally been able to let go of working 2 jobs, and am on a great path of execution. The goal is to be as close to total financial freedom as possible in 2018.

I felt that 2017 was a great year in terms of progressing in my Fastlane business.
In February I soft launched the app I had been working on since December of 2016 to the Google Play Store. Since then I have gotten tons of feedback on it, and have continued to improve it, all while letting it grow organically. To date, it has gotten 2,600 installs and has been used in 130 countries. Definitely have a lot in store for 2018 that I'm excited about. Now back to work.
