I just started playing with NotebookLM from Google. I'm amazed yet again.

I pointed it at 3 of my long YouTube videos and 20 of my forum articles and it's within a private LM/GPT (not sure the terminology) and I can ask it questions of my content.

I know ChatGPT is supposed to be able to do that but I had to transcribe the videos and upload the transcriptions, and it was altogether too clunky.

Plus NotebookLM states it won't use my content to train it's system.

I've been waiting for the equivalent version of ChatGPT that works within your private domain.

Two minutes after learning about it, I'm already thinking "Well, I really don't have that much content to upload since it's a brand new topic I'm learning about. Can you go out and search for relevant trustworthy content in line with what I'm trying to learn and help build the domain knowledge for me with recommendations of things to read/watch/listen???"

In this case, trying to understand a crypto currency trading platform based on speculating about the value of social media content.

Yes, confusing it is.

I read something on LinkedIn last night about NotebookLM, but can't remember where.

A guy was saying how he has one general notebook where he uploads or links to lots of different things he's studying or into. He's interested in the connections Gemini makes between them. I think he uploads whole PDFs of books he's read.

He then has very specific notebooks where he uploads content on just one subject.

Just something to bear in mind.

I've a load of videos on YouTube which are effectively podcast interviews. These should be great to feed into a notebook since there usually isn't anything going on on screen that the transcription won't cover.

I've 67 videos that are public and 165 that are often private calls I've had with people and are unlisted. Many of these calls are 1-2 hours long.

I always wondered what I could do with that bank of content. And I've always wondered if I could do anything with the 400+ threads I've created in the forum, plus the 19,000+ posts.

Maybe you have content strewn all over the place too? Maybe you could also start recording free calls you have with people and upload them unlisted to YouTube to share with the person you gave a free consultation too, AND get NotebookLM to turn it into some written content that could then be turned into audio and/or video?

My next step... find out if I can link to unlisted videos.

I tried with one of my unlisted videos and it didn't work. EDIT: It didn't work because it said there's no transcript. Maybe I find a newer video than one created in 2016.

I also saw this on this page

I wonder if I can make a video public, link to it and get NotebookLM to suck in the transcription (or whatever it does), and then make the video unlisted again?

I have been experimenting with Notebook LM for a few weeks now. It has mainly been to synthesize many different articles and takes.

One example is the future of work (work in the broader sense). What are the skills and technologies of the future? How will that impact the way people work? What are the main pain points for companies?

I fed it links to articles and multiple PDFs on a few different topics (innovations, tech, and a few research articles on the future of work). I love that it can use a book PDF as one source. It is pretty amazing to see how it can connect information across all those sources and give you citations to where the information was obtained.

The "Briefing doc" and "FAQ" can bring interesting insights to explore further.

It is a great tool.

I am thinking of picking one topic, providing sources with contrarian viewpoints, and seeing what comes up. I wonder if this will be valuable for sharpening my thinking and mental models.

My company is expanding into a completely new product line. I fed NotebookLM 50 training sheets, price sheets and blog posts. (The max you can upload to any one notebook is 50)

Now I can ask the AI questions and get answers.

I can also create specific podcasts about any of the 50 resources, and this becomes our training material to learn a completely new product line and product set.

2 weeks of listening to the podcast as background noise, and my business partner is already decent at answering my relatively in-depth questions about our new products.

I also use it a lot for summarizing key points between different resources. Quite powerful in what it does.
I hope I'm not beating this Notebook LM thread into the ground lol but here's some other things.

1- When I use the plain text resource it produces the best content in my opinion. Using links to websites such as the local businesses I am trying to help...the podcast would start off bashing or being really judgmental for the littlest things. But when I pasted some text from their site the review/summary was much better.

2- When you use multiple sources at one time, the podcast speaks really fast and distorts sometimes. And other times it would hallucinate. I find it better to use one or two sources at a time.

3- I follow a guy by the name of JK Molina who talks about how you attract fish on Twitter with value posts and Whales using insights/philosophy posts...Notebook LM is the perfect tool for extracting those insights. This lady that I referred to him asked me to help her out with some stuff he was having her do. I took about 5 of her Twitter posts (plain text) that she already had and plugged it into notebook and just listened to what it was saying and jotted down all the catchy things it was saying aka the insights. She has been using these sprinkled in her posts and she even used some of the insights in her email list which actually produced sales for her, for the first time ever.

4- If you follow the steps in number 3 above, after getting all the catchy things it spits out you can take it over to chat gpt and ask it to put it in order for it to read like a sales page. You will be amazed!

In some cases, you will of course have to fill in some areas for it to read smoothly but for the most part you will have a nice jumpstart for using it as a sales page.

I'm trying to build a process to use these in my company, but then the iteration part of my brain wants to try some other tool to make my process better.

It's getting so that my entire life could be spent just testing tools. This feels like back in the day when everybody was launching a social media platform, and you just had to be on the next social media platform. Except this is so much more and feels faster.

Still, I await the day where I have some established best practices that will actually last more than 2 weeks. Hahaha.

MJ DeMarco said:

I'm guessing very shortly, I'll be able to create my own AI with my voice, my inflections, my personality, and my intonations, to the point, I'll be able to create my own short-form podcasts with 1 simple upload, instructions, and a button press.

I'm pretty sure that day is already here. I swear on my long list of tools to set out, there is the ability to do this, and to even create an AI video version of you so that you could do this on your own YouTube channel as a talking head.

The actual personality bit might be the hardest part to actually replicate perfectly, but it can get 80% of the way there fairly easily I think.

I've primarily kept my testing to Open AI, perplexity, notebook, and Claude. I want to test ollama next.

Maybe someone else can chime in with which tools it is that can help you do this.

Kelsey123 said:

I am using Google Notebook LM as a foot in the door to give biz owners then upsell a more custom solution to those that want different voices, different tones, control over the content, styles such as interview/conversation/single expert, longer podcast etc. Also, the ability to clone their own voice and add it.

I still am working my page for this but here is an example

 https://cdn.podengine.io/podcasts/campaigns/39/93-1730147403.mp3

I am thinking to change the second ai guy's voice because he doesn't sound as enthusiastic lol.

Once I get the audio the way I want it I will distribute it to Spotify and other podcast sites and get the embed code and paste it on my sales page.

Outside of that I have come across many people using this for school. Like teachers, professors, and students.

I also just discovered that if you put (Speak only in Spanish) inside the customize section and generate...they will actually speak Spanish. I haven't tried any other languages, but I am sure it works.

Kelsey, do you know which tools MJ can use?
