The best thing about Allen Carr is how his method is effective on non-smoking addictions as well.

Me? I've quit gaming. It's scary to think about the hours I've lost to pressing buttons and staring at a monitor but it's also reassuring to know that I won't be wasting any more hours that way.

In 15 years are you going to say, "I'm on about day 5,530 for no porn," or are you just going to say "I've quit porn"? There's a big psychological difference there. Everytime I counted days, I always returned to my old addiction.
You're right, I've never thought of it like that before.

I had a scare this past Sunday. (Note: I'm Type 1 Diabetic) I woke up at 5am with the worst stomach pain I had ever felt in my life. Everytime I moved it got worst. I turned to my side it hurt. Each step I walked it hurt. I stayed in my bed frozen for 3 hours staring at the ceiling. Then I ran to the Toilet puking all the food from the past 4 days-Spaghetti, Chicken Teriyaki...it all came out. I went back to my bed for another 2 hours but it still hurt. I literally crawled out of my apartment and into my car outside in the 40 degree weather. and puked. I drove to the local Urgent Care and finally got to see a doctor. She checked stomach and told me, "You need to go the ER. We can't help you here." So I went back to my car and drove to the ER. When I got there they immediately drew blood and took me in for a CT Scan. About 30 minutes later the doctor told me, "You have a high white blood cell count." I joked with her saying, "That means I don't AIDS. Right..." Then she told me, "You also have major gut inflammation and minor organ failure everywhere in the area. Also, you're colon...you're gonna need a stool softener." She gave some pain meds then the pain was all gone.

I'm only eating completely healthy/clean from now on. Also no more caffeine.

Sounds like the energie drink adiction you hear about.
I used to drink that stuff at school even at 1 a day that stuff was adictive like hell (I used that adiction as a drive to do homework) and i would get headaches when i drunk to much of that poison. I quit as soon as i was done with school!

chocolate/desserts which I've cut down a lot but still get cravings all the time.

You're gonna get that cravings here and there until you quit sugar altogether. No one wants to talk about it, but sugar is an addiction like alcohol or smoking.

I know it's not possible to fully go cold-turkey as sugar is everywhere. But cooking for yourself and eating clean can reduce your daily intake to below 25g. It'll take a few weeks and your taste will change.

Fruits are also okay because of the fibers as long as you don't juice (which removes the fibers again).

Used my phone way too much. Social Media, Youtube etc.

I only watched educational entertainment so I excused myself for using it, but I didn't do anything about the things I learned, so it was still wasted time.

Sold my phone, because tried quitting but couldn't. Now am way more conscious and think clearer because I am not constantly distracted.

That only worked for me when I had something else to do. Otherwise notification or not, I'll pick it up and start using.

Now I have a routine in place so even if I buy one again, I think I'll be better able to control the urge.

I stopped eating garbage and eating over my calorie limit.

Sitting in front of the screen, eating pasta with cream based sauce and a pound of cheese, pizza, drinking coke was a natural habit for me. I was doing it since I was a kid. It had to be stopped, because I was gaining weight and feeling like shit.

I very often break my food intake. In general, I try to eat well and not eat anything fried, fatty, harmful, I do not always succeed. Sometimes I have breakdowns and I can afford to eat chips, fried potatoes and fast food.

Good stuff!

I've broken sugar, weed, alcohol, gaming. Surprisingly gaming was the hardest.

Traded tobacco for a E cigarette about a year ago so gotta get rid of that.

Yep gaming was one of the hardest to break for sure - same with weed, dropped them both over 3 years ago. Funny enough, after all that time there is not even a temptation - I was slower this winter so bought a playstation 4 and have played it maybe 5 times. Weed was legalized last month so tried it again and hated it.

Liquor is a bit harder because working at a computer for 16 hours a day on the business, it's just SO nice to drink beer when it gets late and repetitive, and I have a bar across the street, it's just such a convenient way to get out of my home office- it's just a habit I've developed since day one.

For anyone interested in breaking habits, THE POWER OF HABIT was the best thing I've read so far.

Interesting what was noted above about counting days. I don't do that, but I have been counting months/years since quitting things. Makes sense, but in a way terrifies me as well. I kinda like the feather in my hat.

Social media. Wiped them out from my phone.

Used them to keep check on my girl too many times until I realised that she wasn't going to disappear from the world, and would take care of herself until the time I can give her my best. Whatsapp and phone calls will do, and have done sufficiently.

And I also realised that the initial business I would be getting, for any product, isn't going to come from folks visiting my social media accounts, even for a potential online biz. I wouldn't be meeting suppliers on social media as well.

I still keep whatsapp though. It's like the phone.

Uninstalled pretty much everything from smart phone. Don't open browser, no mail, no Linkedin/social media. I basically speak and mess on the thing. Could just as easily have a dumb phone.

On the Laptop on the other hand.. way to much time on Hacker News although every now and then educational gold is found there.

I've broken procrastination for the most part, if I know something needs to be done I'll schedule it and do it when that time comes, no excuses. Also getting off electronic devices before bed to get better sleep, though this wasn't that hard to break it definitely helps you wake up easier.

Tobacco addiction is the worst habit that beats on health and budget. The hardest thing for me was to quit smoking but gradually I did it

Gaming. God I used to play so much. It was just escape,

What a waste, essentially sitting looking at a screen (may aswell of been a wall) for those countless hours.

When you're actively busy and working, I don't even feel the need to play any pointless, meaningless games. Its madness when you think about it.

Now I see my time as an investment. A seed to plant and nurture that will grow into a big tree one day.

Quitted alcohol 2,5 years ago. Best decision I've ever made. My thinking is clearer than ever, more energy and more self-respect.

Now I'm trying to quit bad internet habits, like looking too much at facebook.

I have abstained from consuming any alcoholic beverages (kombucha too) for about 73 days now and can keep this going for a long time.

Avoiding caffeine for the rest of 2018 or more would be great. But having access to a Keurig machine with endless pods makes that very difficult.
