first time I visited here I was quite confused and honestly thought it looks kinda out of date. but the more I engage with it the more I realize and appreciate how considerate MJ was building this website. I can see from here and there that he've thought a lot to make it convenient to use, especially with the quote feature and the super responsive notification alarms. that's the MJ that I know from his books. btw I wonder if he built it all by him self? does anyone know or could you tell me about it MJ?

It's Xenforo. I didn't build it. And yes, the software (IMO) is dated and I hate using it.

Looks and features wise it's like every other forum.

The quality of its content and the moderators is on a whole different level. And that's what matters.

What is done to make the management and content so good, on a regular basis?

As forums go I find it the best to use interface wise.

I’m in some forums hosted on circle(.)so and it’s so clunky compared to TFLF. On the mobile app you can’t edit posts, or reply quote. When you click a notification it takes you to the top of the thread not to where you were tagged. Basically unusable on a phone until they iron out these basic kinks.

Sure, Facebook groups are engaging, but they’re “messagey” in nature. Content drops off the feed quickly. And don’t bother trying to link to threads that have come before.

A great question.

Businesses are a reflection of the owner/leader.

MJ has values. He ensures the forum embodies those values. He leads the way and sets the examples.

“Catch them when they’re good.” AKA: Reward the behaviour you want.

Moderate the behaviour you don’t want.

Ban those who are here to spam, disrupt, or who chase people away.

Pick moderators who, well, moderate rather than fan flames.

Create a safe environment for those you want to contribute.

Encourage those you want to contribute.

Cultures are created this way. And because it’s a forum of living thinking people, they can choose to stay and enjoy that culture, or leave and find one they prefer.

I imagine it’s like growing a bonsai tree. You need a lot of patience, make a lot of small adjustments, and the thing takes on a life of its own.

MJ is here every single day. I imagine it wrecks his head sometimes. I also imagine it’s a labour of love too.
