Creative is still difficult. Generating creative is easy, but there's always little things wrong with it that someone with a keen eye will catch, and those little things can make a drastic difference in performance.

I want to give a specific example

One of my new favorite types of creative is "AI video text overlay". We generate a short (~10 second) AI video and use one or more text overlays to get their attention & get them to take action

Something simple, like "Asphalt Paving in Toronto" "Book Before Winter"

We generate the video, asking to turn a still image (a photo of a job in progress) into a video. It looks good, except one problem: the machine is doing the wrong job. It's removing asphalt instead of laying it.

That small mistake isn't noticed immediately. We post the ad, and the ad performs well: better than average. But within less than a week performance tanks. We check comments, someone says "AI, look at the asphalt disappearing (laughing emoji)". Comment gets 2 likes. Client doesn't notice. We check performance again, delivery completely tanks, that ad which was doing well initially is no longer getting traffic!

Whose fault is this? Ours! Not the video generator (Gemini), not the client, not Meta. It's on us.

The client never noticed. We noticed only when performance dipped. We fix the mistake, repost the ad, performance goes back to what it was before it tanked. Continues performing for a few weeks then frequency skyrockets and it burns out. Rinse repeat
