She is a little vague in that video, but I think she is fairly competent in terms of SEO. I took her course last year and got 1st page rankings in under a month. Your thoughts are welcome since you didn't finish your statement. There are plenty of experts here to support or rebut what you say. I'm am admittedly a novice in this field.

She doesn't? Well, if she has good points or not, they're lost on me. I couldn't make out what she was saying with 100% volume, so...

Sorry about that. I had no issues at all with my computer. Did you check the volume of the Youtube video itself?

I think she has a similar video on one of her landing pages. I'll see if I can find it and post it.

Updated:

Yes, it was also 100%. Don't worry about it, it's not your fault. But if you do find a version with boosted sound (Maybe she should get a transcript?) I'd appreciate it.

I found the video I was thinking of, but it is from April of 2010 so the content is different.
If I run across a clear version of today's video I'll post it.

This is posted with the disclaimer that I am not an affiliate and do not benefit from this landing page.

Are you in competitive niche like debt consolidation, credit card, etc? If you are in easy niche, anyone using Social Media can rank 1st page. And if this woman a mad genius in SEO or Social Media, you will see her rank 1st page in Google for the keyword SEO or Social Media.

Well I don't want to post anything that is not helpful. Please tell us where she is wrong and what the proper technique is. When I built the site it was for learning purposes and I didn't use any social media. Her curriculum was WP based and relied on plugins, tags, metatags, article feeds, and back links. The goal was to make landing pages for affiliate products.

She also used Market Samurai for keyword research and gave detailed overviews about how to use that program. But you're right, none competitive niches are easy to rank in. My niche was medium on the google keyword tool at the time. I've let the site go for now.

She said "links on social media are counted in search engines as positive ranking signals". Bullshit. That is not true.

The proper way to rank high is to go to Google, type in competitive keywords (poker, gambling, sex toys, porn, credit card, debt consolidation, payday loan, etc) and analyze the top ranking sites.

You don't need gurus like Michelle especially when her site is not ranked anywhere good for keywords like SEO, Social Media Optimization, etc.

I've had to edit your post -- calling people names is not warranted. Please try to keep things professional and respectful. Gracious.

She said "links on social media are counted in search engines as positive ranking signals" . . . That is not true.

That's interesting, Valuegiver. We've been working w/various social media things (incl video and relevant online forums) for a while now.

From mashable.com (2009):

. . . implementing SEO programs without leveraging the content distribution and linking benefits of social web participation makes link building for SEO an uphill battle. The nature of the social web encourages participation: sharing, voting, commenting and linking. Popular social content gets exposure, traffic and can result in a substantial number of relevant inbound links.

Another post, re blogs:

The Fastest Way to Increase Your Google Ranking | Social Media Examiner

But it's only recently that we've been hearing from our web folks that social media is being factored into SEO:

Search engine optimization - Keeping up with Google

We're not an online store, though-- perhaps you're just talking about online stores?

She said "links on social media are counted in search engines as positive ranking signals". Bullshit. That is not true.

What I thought she said was that Google does not rank the majority of social network pages because the search bots cannot get into individual profiles (passwords required). In other words, only the "fan" pages get scanned usually. As far as whether Google looks at all to social media, she referenced an interview with the Google algorithm team last December. According to her account of the interview, Google team members affirmed that the amount posts (tweets, diggs, etc.) on fan pages are factors when considering author authority. Having not heard the interview myself, I can only go by what she said. She did also state that this ranking protocol has just recently been implemented.

You're right, and she teaches that as well. It just wasn't the topic of the video.

You don't need gurus like Michelle especially when her site is not ranked anywhere good for keywords like SEO, Social Media Optimization, etc.

The site the video was on is a blog she sends to customers (or previous in my case). I'm not sure how her business site ranks, but I do know it was marketed well (email campaign if I recall right) because I signed up. You are probably right in that I could dig and find the info through multiple threads and hours of reading. This format suited me since I had no experience in SEO at the time. Speaking of, I need to get back into it.

Thanks for the comments.
