Like to post something but it doesn't need its own thread?

This thread is for you!

Thought I'd create a random thoughts and chit-chat thread for anyone who'd like to post something, but it doesn't need it's own thread.

For example, I just learned today that an idea I had years ago for an airport valet service is now reality. Not only is it reality, but it is growing and grabbing funding.

The service is EXACTLY as I envisioned it would be.

OAK and LAX Long-Term Airport Parking : Never Park Again

Darn it!

The old, "Damn, I had that idea!!" strikes again!

That said, I might invest as they are taking accredited investor money.

I was reading a book about this topic a while ago by Elizabeth Gilbert. She describes how ideas are an energetic life-form looking for a human partner. If it thinks that you can do the job, it will pay you a visit. But, if it notices that you won't collaborate to the execution, it will find someone else. It will not wait for you forever.

Now I know that this is magical realism, but it always stuck with me in a way to remind me that if I don't take action, someone else will.

This is literally what modern rationalist like descartes, Leibniz and Spinoza thought.

That we could have intelligence independent of experience or having being "taught something".

Yeah, a mental dimension so to speak where the physical needs the mental but the mental does not need the physical. We can have an understanding of something before it manifests physically.

True stuff for sure and actually very practical for solving problems in the real world.

this is crucial to understand if anybody want to be a professional problem solver..

Random thoughts and rant on how the script has a massive hold on society.

Was at a party last week for grand final day, if your not from Australia you won't get it.

Was speaking to one of my lady friends about investing business etc, we got talking she asked if I read the barefoot investor.

I said is it another ETF circle jerk?

She said no its about a guy who was broke in his 30s and turned it around. I said did he turn it around from writing the book?

She said oh I think he made a bit from the book but Yada Yada.

I started to speak about fastlane ideas indirectly, about having a product or service people want and need making it run separate of my time eventually so I am no longer a slave like everyone else

She says well you'll need to go get a business degree for that and basically told me it wasn't possible....

I left it there and just said yeh I could tell she was just so defeated alive but not living.

The script has a great hold so glad I've taken the red pill.

I gave my daughter the Barefoot Investor book which is ideal for her current way of living but it has the usual compound interest factoids etcetera in it. Glad the Eagles won the Grand Final even though I go for the Dockers, I will support the local teams.
That lady probably thinks you NEED a business plan first too lol.

Interesting to me cuz I was involved in this industry for so long...

I remember just a few years after I sold, one of my clients killed himself at LAX in a terrorist incident.

And then this (who I don't believe was a client)...

Owner of NY Limo Involved in 20 Deaths Has a Shocking History

20 people, OMG how horrific. Not sure why this isn't HUGE news.

I imagine the limo industry is rife with cheaters, cheapskates, and scammers.

Don't have any evidence or experience to back it up, but it just seems like one of those industries.

A small rant--something I used to make in my handmade biz I am going back to, except that someone else has been doing it for years, but not longer than when I first started, so even though I am an imitation of myself, I look like a poor imitation of someone else. :rage:

MJ--that limo, yikes. Was talking about that with friends. Why would a 2001 FORD still be in service? :clench:

My understanding of the vehicles specifically is that they are ill (if at all) equipped for even minor crashes? Any insight on that?

It’s sad that it will take an event like this to possibly get some safety regulation to the vehicles and businesses themselves as this owner clearly did not take it upon himself.

Industry cover-up, probably. Need to protect reputation of the industry as a whole.

In my country, we have only ONE casino, which is in Genting Highlands.

As you can imagine, many folks lose fortunes there....thus suicide cases follow.
Of course, the place can't have a bad rep with people dying around the place. It has also a family-styled resort and theme park nearby, so if kids hear of people dying near by, well, let's say Genting's ain't gonna be the next holiday destination to go to...

So they cover it up. Quietly have a team to collect the body and clean up and send the required renumeration to the relatives.

Paul Allen dead. RIP.

It's coming up as a hoax on my search MJ!
Never can tell these days.

Edit: Just read it from a more reliable source. RIP.

Easy solution, hide the bodies and the stories in Genting's daily mist.

BTW, how did they ever find a clear enough sky to take that photo? I always had trouble at ground level finding the resort in the mist.

Images can be doctored. Or they went out on an exceptionally good day for the shot.

But now, sadly, there's too much construction and dusty development in Genting and Cameron Highlands, so the natural coolness (and mist) is getting subdued, plus more landslides.

You've been to Genting? :playful:

MJ-- not sure if you have been following this story. It's right in my backyard. I have some connections to the victims. It's been all sorts of sketchy. The limo driver didn't have his correct license, the limo itself didn't pass inspection. Lots of odd stuff that all compounded into that horrible accident.

One of my early customers was a trust fund kiddie.
Law school fully paid for, graduated, spends exorbitant amounts of other's money.

One day, he disappeared.

The headline I read a few weeks later was...

"Florida Man threatens to kill judge over infatuation with daughter."

The strange part was we actually got along very well over the phone.
Yeah he seemed kinda nutty, but not dangerous.

I learned what The Baker Act was that day.

Hey can I ask why would someone use the app to park and pay fees? Why wouldn't he just let a relative drop him or get a taxi like always through other apps? I want to steal the idea and implement it locally lol but I'm thinking why would someone use it? ...

Yes I've been to Genting a few times, but haven't seen much of it. To be fair I should add that on one occasion as I drove through the mist on the way up the mountain it suddenly cleared and I got to see the place. It was very beautiful.

I started to speak about fastlane ideas indirectly, about having a product or service people want and need making it run seperate of my time eventually so I am no longer a slave like everyone else

She says well you'll need to go get a business degree for that
What?!?

You need a business degree to setup a business?!?

FFS...

Can't stand the Barefoot Investor, gets rich selling books and being paid by mainstream media to advise everyone to live the slowlane...

BTW I'm a Collingwood supporter and went to the game, I've been in attendance for 1 draw and 2 losses on the big day now, Dad's attended 6 losing GFs too and has never been there for a win, maybe we jinx them haha!

Random thought: In the nursery rhyme "Humpty Dumpty," they don't specify that Humpty Dumpty is an egg.

Which makes the nursery a bit more disturbing.

Another random thought: Is anyone else pumped for nanotechnology? It's probably not really on many peoples radar, but man - nanotechnology is going to completely change the world.

Imagine a 15 foot flatscreen tv that you can fold up and put in your pocket.

Imagine a suit based off of the "Disappearing Octopus" - giving people complete invisibility.

Imagine a world where you buy a pair of clothes and you never have to wash them.

Imagine a chefs knife that never dulls - and is always razor sharp.

Imagine cars made of a material that is paper thin, yet 10 times stronger than steel - giving cars, planes, trains etc. insane MPG.

I will say one thing. When I am a wealthy man, I am going to be buying up nanotech labs like a madman.

I believe ideas are ignored due to the assumption of perfection. You see an aeroplane flying high with Jumbo engines and the knowledge accumulation of millions of engineers etc. You subconsciously believe that it is impossible to overcome such a multitude of men, it is not difficult to deduce that this is basically perfection. We have many ideas, However often they are ignored due to it being "outlandish".For instance Max planck , a pioneer in Quantum physics was told to not bother going into physics because it was "perfect".

When I began my physical studies [in Munich in 1874] and sought advice from my venerable teacher Philipp von Jolly...he portrayed to me physics as a highly developed, almost fully matured science...Possibly in one or another nook there would perhaps be a dust particle or a small bubble to be examined and classified, but the system as a whole stood there fairly secured, and theoretical physics approached visibly that degree of perfection which, for example, geometry has had already for centuries.

To think it could've destroyed any chance of us typing on this computer if he listened to the advice of his professor.

Nanotechnology with bullet evading capabilities would be horrifying. The response time of each particle is most likely in microseconds, imagine firing at an object which simply evades the bullets as a whole.Thousands of weapons would be useless in the art of war... in seconds.

Not everyone has relatives everywhere, and most airplane customers have enough money.
Off course you'd be targeting high-class customers.
