Progress thread - porn website

Hey everyone,

I'm starting a progress thread in the hopes that it may motivate me when I'm having hard times.

Why a porn website? Well, I've kept an idea journal for a while and I realized that the business ideas in the adult industry interested me most. So why not just do those ones? Lol.

My goal with my first business is to hit $2 mill in valuation and sell it. Why that number? It's arbitrary but I think it's a decent goal. After I achieve that number either I'll continue starting businesses or maybe become a singer. Also I'd like to achieve that number this year.

As of right now I am contacting a few hundred pornstars to be listed on my website. I'll do some marketing this week and hopefully hit $500 in revenue.

Oopsies. Forgot to update this thread.

So my porn website was in fact... a 'PROBLEM IN SEARCH OF A SOLUTION'. I got so excited about the idea, brainstorming all kinds of solutions and features and shit, that I was blinded to the fact that

1) I had not done market research and I did not realize that something similar already existed

2) I was not solving any problem. It was just an 'exciting concept'. I'd say these types of ideas can work, but as a first time entrepreneur I'd rather solve a REAL PROBLEM... which brings me to...

MY NEW IDEA(VALIDATED PROBLEMS):

I am starting a new chat site. A few months back, it occured to me that all those horny men on Omegle must spend HOURS looking for one girl - if they even end up FINDING one, that is. Many men online were complaining about the shit ratio of girls to guys, and saying they "loved using the sites, but I've stopped 'cause it's too time consuming."

The most popular alternative - 'DirtyRoulette' - had a paid feature where you could match up with only girls. I did a lot of research online, looking at what customers thought about Omegle and its competitors.

Guess what? Every time there was a post about DirtyRoulette on Reddit, there were plenty of guys saying "Man did you pay for that?", "Can you lend me your account", "Why would you pay for that"?

It's only $6.99/week for DirtyRoulette, but still many people weren't willing to pay.

So... I'm gonna create a site where the ratio of girls to guys is 10000% better than Omegle's. Where omegle might be 500:1 guys to girls, I'd be 50:1 guys to girls. AND I'll make it free.

This will address Omegle users' top problems - something the existing alternatives ARE NOT DOING.

I have 2 concerns though:
1) I'm concerned about how I'll make profit since I'll be relying on ads only(show customers 5 ads before allowing them to use site). And I can only rely on adult networks since, well, normal ad networks don't like adult sites.

I need to be profitable from day 1 or I will not be able to build the website out. I don't have a co-founder, no savings, so to build the website I'll need to use profits to hire a dev.

2) I am still brainstorming ways to get the ratio to be way better than Omegle's. From my research, Omegle girls who are willing to *ahem* mutually do stuff with guys only do so 'cause they're "bored", "want to kill time", etc. I am planning on stealing these girls from competitors' sites by rewarding them for every 60 mins they spend on the website(e.g. a wheel of fortune where they can win gift cards). Since they're killing time anyways, why not get paid for it right?

I plan to dominate the video chatroom space. If I grow big I will need more girls on the chat sites to maintain the ratio. How will I do this? NO CLUE. I'm going to YOLO and just focus on the MVP first.

I'm confused - I don't know much about DR or Omegle.

Are the girls on these sites paid to be there?

On a side note: If you want to make A LOT of money in this space, I'd find a way to make an anonymous sex worker pay system like Circle Pay was before it changed to doing something else. THAT is where the money lies.

I think the idea of a paid webcam site thats similar to omegle could work (like the phone sex lines). But your biggest problem is paying the women to get on the site. You aint gonna do that with advertisements and gift cards lol.. The fact that you thought that might work shows you don't know what you're doing. Start with a service based business first, something that is easier.

Have you thought about targeting a niche group for your service? example is this film studio call the "BananaFever". it targets only 1 specific niche. Yellow skin asian dudes who love white girls. Its been working for that guy.

Niches are definitely a good way to go in this industry. I connected with a guy on Twitter yesterday that has a very, very specific niche porn site.

Oh the pornstars was for the first idea. The first idea turned out to be a 'solution in search of a problem'. It was an exciting idea based on problems that did not exist. My imagination went wild and I pursued that idea in vain.

This website is based on a real problem, and I've conducted enough research to know it's a prob worth solving.

It ain't gon be pornstars. Right now my plan is to steal the female users from my competitors by offering prizes from $5 - $50. My competitors don't give these females anything(the females just pick any when they're bored).

To get more female users I might also pay some girls from poor countries(which is what CooMeet does). Haven't figured this out yet, but will update.

As for the service based business... good idea. Thanks. I will consider that should this idea fail.

P.S. it's not a shitty omegle rip-off. Imagine the ratio of girls:guys is 250:1 on omegle. I plan on doing at most 50:1 aka save 5x time for guys to find a match.

Hmm. Idk man. I've always struggled to get business ideas that I liked. This was the last one that I found interesting in my idea journal... so I just yolo'd and am now pursuing it. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I'm not sure actually. My original goal was to sell a business for millions then try to become a singer. Now it's... I've changed my plan to making a biz that can get me enough passive income to support me while I work on my vocal ability & songwriting skills. I think this would allow me to get started on my singing journey faster too.

Also... payment systems. Damn. Seems really compliciated. I have a fondness for simple ideas that don't require much software to build out. But I'll check it out if this idea flops. Thx!

Well, I must say that all of my business ideas are also related to the sex industry. It might sound weird, but it is not. I mean, this industry will never die as we will get horny and have sex. I know that it is tough to get into the porn industry nowadays. I mean, there are so freaking many websites, and some of them have a monopoly on the entire market. I was thinking about creating a porn site, only with xnxx videos, so only the true addicts would visit it. It might not be that profitable, but that is what I really want.
