2 months ago, my friend who works in a legal firm approached me that she would be running a free legal talk in a co-working space. Their talk aims to educate businesses on how to protect themselves online through robust terms of use and privacy policies on their websites and apps. This will touch upon an organization’s obligations on the collection, use and retention of personal data under the Personal Data Protection Act. They will also present interesting cases of companies that were brought to Court over infringing statements and content found on their company websites.

She asked me if my company can offer anything. So I said yes, as a bonus for all attendees they can get a free website audit to see how their websites are doing. She agreed on my idea. Today I saw 20 business owners walked in (30+ rsvp the event) and I secured 5 leads from this workshop who were interested in website audit.

Today session had me thinking of more ideas on the possible collaboration with other industries beside legal firms. Who else can you think of ?

Consultants (too many types of consultants to name), business coaches, accountants, graphic designers (print graphics), social media agencies, SEO firms, PEO's, financial planners, IT/security companies, civic organizations, industry/trade organizations, magazines, libraries.

As you already know, the key is having the relationship and trust of a key figure in the firm to unlock access to their audience.

Early on, I found I could get these kinds of things by approaching the right person and having strong, educational, non-salesy content to present. But those presentations didn't generate as much as if I had a friend on the inside. I switched to getting to know someone for 6 months or a year before I even bring up the request to joint host. This way they can feel very confident recommending me in the meeting. Worked much better.

Hope this helps.

Nice work.

“Who already has your clients?” (Jay Abraham)

Who has business owners as their clients or customers?

One of my clients might pitch my course to his 70k email list of business owners in his industry.

Another of my clients has a Facebook group of 1,600 business owners in her industry. We’re working together to see what service we can provide them.
