Hi guys
The desire in me to do something remarkable with my life is so strong.... I can't believe it's taken me so long to find the Fastlane Forum. As it happens, I did so just a couple of days before I was due to go on holiday. I found the forum, found the book, read it twice by the pool and came home with renewed enthusiasm and a ton of ideas.
Without going too far down the sob story road, I spent most of my childhood with barely any food in the fridge, while my mom bounced from one relationship to another, dragging me along for the ride. 14 addresses and 6 schools later, I moved out of home 2 weeks after my 16th birthday when I was just about legally able to do so. Now 34 years old, I became a dad just less than 2 years ago and I promised myself my daughter would never go through what I went through.
If I'm honest, this is the real motivation behind my fastlane story. For the last 6 years I have been working as a freelance online marketing consultant for clients in the cosmetic surgery industry. I have worked hard and am fortunate enough to earn a 6 figure income (in British pounds), so my family and I are comfortable in the finance department. But THE FEAR is still there. The fear of losing everything. I thought more money would solve it, but it is only now that I realise the root of the problem - despite working freelance, I still sell my time for money, I'm still reliant on other people renewing contracts, and ultimately I am not in control of my own destiny.
Do I want to drive MJ's Lamborghini? Sure, (Actually I've seen a Porsche 911 id really like), but in reality what I really want is a release from THE FEAR. What I really want is control of my destiny, and my family's future.
Anyway, this is where I'm at right now:
1. I earn a substantial freelance income, working from home about 70 hours per week.
2. I run a small lead generation company, supplying leads to one particular industry. It's early days. So far the profit from this business is about £400 per month.
3. I run a large blog site in a growing niche within the cosmetic surgery industry. I'm getting about 500 visits per day, but I'm struggling to monetise it. Right now I get £300 per month from display advertising and about £30 per month from Google Adsense. I'm experimenting with Amazon affiliate marketing but I'm not expecting much. Charging for access didn't work, and selling more advertising is a non starter. I cannot sell leads via the site as it conflicts with my freelance contracts.
4. I have experience in Ecommerce. 4 years ago I sold a group of websites that achieved a turnover of £350k per year. Not bad for a part time venture. I'm considering getting back into Ecommerce, but struggling to find a product offering a decent margin. My previous Ecommerce project was heavily reliant on SEO. I really need to learn other channels like Amazon but again I'm concerned about margins.
My goal? I want to create residual income. Alternatively I want to create an income stream I can milk for a few years and then sell. My ultimate goal is for my finances to run on autopilot, regardless of where I am or what I'm doing.
I've read some amazing stories on here, and the community is very supportive. I look forward to hearing of your successes, and hopefully reporting some of my own.
