Andy's Contractor CV (Breakdown, Tips & Tricks)

Here's a breakdown of the CV I had when I was an IT Contractor.

Being a Contractor means you live and die by your ability to get your next contract.

This CV layout was honed over many years and worked very well.

Hope it helps.

Any takeaways?

Example cover letter I'd send to recruitment agents.

My format is 3 paragraphs.

1) Why I'm writing, and how I found out about the role.

2) Soundbite(s) to show I'm suitable for the role.

3) Non-needy call to action.

Thanks for sharing this @Andy Black!

I watched this a while ago, but never applied it, because I was dabbling into too many things.

It's my 30 days of action, so I put everything to a test.

Here is what I integrated into my Upwork profile yesterday that I learned from you:
  • Restructured my text and added some spaces and symbols here and there so it will be easier to read.
  • Tailored my initial paragraphs to what I am offering now, but added some more insights into how I got to this point further down the page.
  • Added some buzz words and repeated the skills I offer many times, so the algorithm can pick up on it.
  • Added a section of technical skills, which I haven't had at all before.
  • Integrated more action words and improved the overall writing style.
I'll take this for a spin now and will report back if my results changed in any way.
