I came back to this forum after a long break (busy building), and right now I'm riding high. It feels like being in love. Why?
By my standards, I finally escaped the rat race.
It took forever to build a CENTS business while holding down a full-time job. Last July, I finally quit, right when my daughter was born. After just 5 days, my employer called asking when I'd be back. I said I'd use all my holidays as discussed (25 days/year in NL), but they wouldn't allow it. Suddenly there were "important" deadlines.
That was the FTE I needed.
I acted irrationally and sent a "F*ck off" response and resigned on the spot. I'd planned to work a few more months until my SaaS would hit a certain MRR, but this forced me to double down instead.
Last year I invested a chunk of savings into the business: a devops contractor, support guy, and marketeer. My wife supported me throughout, but for me there was real pressure. What if I'm wrong? That thought kept me going, facing the challenges in front of me. It paid off. Revenue doubled. My wife was smart enough to suggest we stash away a year of mortgage payments (covered until October 2026).
This month, I finally break even. My costs include a management fee that covers food, utilities, and fuel. I'm not getting rich, but I'm free.
In November, growth hit €500 MRR/month. This month it's €800, with €1,500 in hot leads in the pipeline. Traction is clearly there, but I still feel anxious alongside the wave of happiness. What if it's seasonal? Those thoughts creep in. I've learned to embrace the anxiety. It makes me double down harder and feel mentally sharper then ever. Creativity is also flowing. So will put in my A game.
Today I'm bringing on a sales guy. Can't afford a monthly salary yet, so we agreed on commission per conversion for year one (with a retention bonus), lower commission in year two, then it stops. The agreement is generous, but it lets me keep pushing instead of waiting until I can "afford" to hire.
To prepare, I set up a Pipedrive account with a Calendly integration for booking demos and an API request per signup. Pretty basic - one sales pipeline - but a solid foundation to scale the sales engine.
The intention of this thread: log my journey. I'll post updates when there's something worth sharing. Hope it helps other aspiring Fastlaners.
One thing that surprised me: when I first read TMF , I thought experiencing the Fastlane meant making tons of money. That's not true. I feel more like an unscripted Fastlaner than ever. Barely breaking even, but fully in control of my time.
