is saying "but open to reasonable offers" (re: pricing) after stating your desired price a weak approach?

asking in regards to both low and high cost items.
Yes. State an offer, and let people make counter offers. Nothing else is necessary.

Today I realized I am in the EXACT same situation I was 365 days ago.

This is depressing.

I found out that:

- The year went by super fast.
- I lost a shit load of time

This is profoundly depressing. I have the same goal I had one year ago and did not move one inch closer to achieve it.

I learned how to do a bunch of stuff, yes, but none of them enabled me to earn the first euro.

I am gonna turn 27 and am about to subrent the student room of a 21-year-old girl to do a job I was doing when I was 23.

I lied on the rental contract to rent it out, cuz it's only for students normally.

This is gonna be the worst summer of my life.

And it's entirely my fault.
We’ve all been there in one form or another.

I’ve wasted WAY more than one year.

You’ll be okay. You know what you need to do. You’re 27. You have an abundance of life ahead of you.

Get crackin’.

It's not the mask-wearing that pisses me off, but the incessant lockdowns.

Malaysia is now in a full lockdown till 14 June because the government caved into 'social outcry'
At first, the government had a more reasonable approach of just having partial lockdowns in heavily-hit areas, plus sending some workers/employees to work-from-home settings. So business could still continue...

Then the social media starting pouring in with tweets on 'road to 10k cases' and '#kerajaangagal'(government fail)

There's plenty to pick with the government, but do people want to be cut down into poverty, just to be safe from a virus that actually has a decent survival rate? I've got a friend who caught COVID, and he recovered in a week with decent rest.

Sadly, most people don't deserve good leaders with strong decisions, because they keep pressuring the ones they already have into making more stupid decisions.

I want a Galt's Gulch to escape to.

People are told what they want by government, or its allied establishments. What they really want is prosperity, but quite often it eludes them because the vampires are afraid that if productive people become too powerful, they won't be able to get at the blood.

Great message.

I don’t following fighting.. is that Tyron Woodley? I heard him on a podcast a few years ago… he’s a wise one.

Never mind, I’ve discovered that was Floyd Mayweather. Also a wise dude.

What is the meaning of this odd text that this anonymous Twitter bro posted?

“don’t go to ___’s wedding” ??

the dude who posted was supposed to be the best man at a wedding, but the bride didn't want him there because he wasn't vaxxed, so he was uninvited (it's in the rested of the Twitter thread)

You should not give up. Let's investigate this together. Why do you think you're NOT moving ahead?

And what is the most important thing that you read in Personality isn't Permanent, in your opinion?

The reason I'm asking is because the most important thing I read is the bit about Peter Thiel, who is a genius, and doesn't care about his reputation (meaning he can tell you the truth)...

This bit was the most important for me from Personality Isn't Permanent (my bolding):

Your process must be based on the desired result you seek. You must begin with the end in mind. "Process" alone means nothing without the context of a goal. Process-first thinking is tactical and moves your life forward without a plan, trying to find whatever worked for others.

Conversely, end-in-mind thinking is strategic and lived backward, where you reverse-engineer your process based on the results you want. Thus, "process" without measurement isn't a process at all. The desired outcomes determines the process for getting it. The results you get along the way determine the adjustments to that process.

In his book, Zero to One, billionaire Peter Thiel explains why "process" thinking leads to mediocrity. Instead, Thiel suggests having a "definite" attitude and purpose. As he states:

"Indefinite attitudes to the future explain what's most dysfunctional in our world today. Process trumps substance: when people lack concrete plans to carry out, they use formal rules to assemble a portfolio of various options. This describes Americans today. In middle school, we're encouraged to start hoarding 'extracurricular activities'. In high school, ambitious students compete even harder to appear omnicompetent. By the time a students gets to college, he's spent a decade curating a bewildering diverse résumé to prepare for a completely unknowable future. Come what may, he's ready - for nothing in particular."
And why do "Americans today" have indefinite attitudes towards the future? Why don't they have a BIG GOAL?

Because of FEAR. That's why.

Here's what Bruce Lee said:
You see, my will to do springs from the knowledge that I CAN DO. I’m only being natural, for there is no fear or doubt inside my mind.
Modern people are almost ALL, without exceptions, cowards. And literarily. We have smart people today, university graduates, who cannot even get a job... and why? Because they're SCARED.

So fear is the number one enemy. Most people are not successful because they're TOO SCARED of doing what it takes. And they sabotage themselves...

Here are some common ways of self-sabotage:
• Setting too many goals
• Setting the WRONG goal (and believe it or not, people subconsciously set the wrong goal... they WANT to fail)
• Not focusing on a single goal
• Not saying NO to what is NOT aligned with your goal
• Jumping from idea to idea, rather than doing what it takes
• Not setting a SMART goal
• Not reverse-engineering their goal to create a process
• Not measuring results
• Not being accountable to the process
• Not improving the process based on the results they get to better reach the goal faster.

So, here's what setting the WRONG goal is... You need money for your rent and living, say $3,000 per month. And you set your goal as:

1. Publish 3 articles per week on my blog.

OR

2. Write a book until August 1st on the topic of XYZ.

OR

3. Start a podcast and publish 1 episode per week.

NONE of these goals are adequate or relevant for your needs. You need a goal that will take you to $3,000 per month, and do so quickly, in 2 months or so at most. Here are some better goals:
• I will create a profile on Upwork and submit 5 applications per day for copywriting jobs, with the goal of making $3,000 per month.

It's specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and has a time-factor in it (per day).

Now THAT'S your goal. Before you do anything else, you MUST complete this goal, every day. It doesn't matter that you have client work or you need to take your dog for a walk, or you need to hit the gym. This is your ONE goal that, if you do nothing else in that day, you must do.

Now that's what I'd say is most relevant just by following you on the forum. You may have more insight than me, but you tell me. And let's work this out together! :)

I second this. It’s an awakening. If some of you think conservativism makes more sense than liberalism, you will land on at least minarchism after reading Anatomy Of The State.
this perfectly describes the idea of "trade-based" vs. "force-based" government.

One grows the pie, and the other uses threats and violence to divide it up.

I'm in the exact same boat. I pulled up an old Trello board that I had made in 2019 with a few goals I had set for myself and I haven't achieved a single one. If anything I'm further from them. And it is soul crushing.

I'd kill to be 27 and on this forum. I'm 38 and everything is slipping away.

I'm in a dead end slow lane 11 hour a day job and I just feel hopeless about the future. This current job is killing my health and I'll be lucky to be alive at 45 by this point.

Sure seems that way.
Seems like a republic does also.
That’s what people get when they ignore human nature.

Embracing human nature is embracing choice and competition. Everything else is fighting the inevitable.

Hey @WillHurtDontCare

What do you think of this? Tonal

I have room for this in my office and it looks like I could get a great workout on it. Seems like the Peloton of strength training.

Website says it only goes up to 200lbs though?
Whatever. I’m not a body builder. I would be thrilled to be able to work out with 200 pounds at every function.

Maybe it will piss me off at some point, but I’ll cry about it into my much larger and more sculpted muscles.

Hey @WillHurtDontCare

What do you think of this? Tonal

I have room for this in my office and it looks like I could get a great workout on it. Seems like the Peloton of strength training.

Depends on your goals and your constraints. If you want to get seriously strong, then you need barbells. If you want to put on serious muscle, then you need barbells, dumbbells, cable machines, and various other accessory machines.

If you have the space, you could grab barbells, a squat rack, some plates, and a few accessory machines for less than $3K.

Regarding safety, the image below worries me. If you get it, I'd invest in some bumper bars to make sure that it doesn't strangle you (serious).

My recommendation would be to build your own gym with more equipment, BUT, if you have $3K to spare and you're just looking to add equipment that would let you work out in your office, I'd say try it out. You could probably get an OK beginner routine and make intermediate progress on some exercises on this thing.

Though, definitely check out the reviews and see if anyone has been seriously injured using this thing.

This is gonna be the worst summer of my life.

F*ck that - why the F*ck would you ever tell yourself that? Tell yourself that you're going to look back at this summer as the most important summer of your life.

I lied on the rental contract to rent it out, cuz it's only for students normally.

Get the F*ck over it. If you realized how much progress you could make in the next 365 days, you'd stop giving a shit about what you've failed to do.

And you're only 27 - LOL - you're younger than a lot of people were when they had their first business success. I believe that @MJ DeMarco said in The Millionaire Fastlane that he moved to Arizona at 27 (26?) and he only had like 2 months rent for whatever shithole apartment he moved into. A few days later he had some web design projects which paid his rent, then he hit on his limo lead website and really started to rake in in.

A good friend of mine who runs a successful business (with a second on the way) told me that things didn't really come together for him until his 30s (he's crushing it now BTW).

While I'm talking to @monfii right now, this message goes out to literally everyone on this forum - get the F*ck over your problems. The great sages of every age knew that how you looked at your circumstances was far more important than your actual circumstances.

If you want to be wildly successful, then you need to have a short memory about your "failures" (as if not having life figured out at 27 makes you a failure).

"An inability to take seriously for any length of time their enemies, their disasters, their misdeeds—that is the sign of the full strong natures who possess a superfluidity of moulding plastic force, that heals completely and produces forgetfulness"

-Nietzsche

I followed the science; all I found was money.
