Damn, what a painful and embarassing thread. Reminds me of my first posts here back in 2016 as well: NOTABLE! - $3,000 to $1,000,000 in 15 months: HOW TO DO IT

Basically, @The-J was minding his own business updating his progress thread with a "I'm not a millionaire yet" and I seemingly decided that asking him "What are you then? What's your net worth?" was an appropriate thing to do. The arrogance and teenage angst is also apparent here:



Life hit me like a train the following years and I'd like to think that as a result I'm much wiser and self-aware now. I couldn't really grasp "I own my time" back then, but now I do and I'd like to congratulate @The-J for this huge achievement.

I think that at the beginning, it's reasonable to be filled with lots of hatred for the Slowlane, jobs, etc.

But if one doesn't do anything about the hate, it just goes rotten inside you.
It's a good thing I decided to hop onto Upwork and follow Lex's lead. Freelancing was both a great and stormy experience, but it let me earn my first kills in business, and even turned my mind towards something a lot more productive.

A lot of things happened in the past few years...happened to some key family members and friends, which I've mentioned here many times.

I've seen folks I care about just abandon their entire value systems, do stupid things like drugs and buying 'love spells', and jumping into relationships that nearly killer entire families. Seeing people I knew and loved do silly, but sad things made me realise that if I spent more time complaining and talking crap, I'd probably be in a similar position.

Life hit me like a train the following years and I'd like to think that as a result I'm much wiser and self-aware now. I couldn't really grasp "I own my time" back then, but now I do and I'd like to congratulate @The-J for this huge achievement.

Great that we've moved on to better paradigms.
I guess the cliche saying 'Give it time' may be right after all?

On net worth, after learning what I could from a finance degree, I've come to learn there's a lot more better indicators than that! (e.g. free cash flow)

I don't even remember this, but I can tell you where I was ACTUALLY at when I made that post.

In 2016 I was making like $1.5k/month lol. I was freelancing with some help, building funnels with my very limited knowledge of digital marketing back then, I paid some Indians to do the more menial stuff for me and I was getting clients on Upwork.

I didn't have a 9 to 5 because I didn't want one, not because it was a monumental achievement. My expenses were super low, I was renting a room in someone's house and I took the bus everywhere.

Wanna know what my days were like? I'd get up at the crack of noon, go to my alma mater's coworking space, and hang out. I did absolutely F*ck all. I'd pack my lunch to save money on eating out.

Imagine being me in 2016, living in literal poverty, taking the bus everywhere, saying some shit like "I own my time". Actual arrogance. It's a true statement, I worked maybe 10 hours a month and my bills got paid. But I was far more arrogant than you in my response, because I knew even at the time that where I was at was not where I ultimately wanted to be.

I'm glad I experienced it, though. I learned a lot about myself during that experience. The following months were a huge reckoning when I realized that I needed to start paying off student loans & I had other one-time expenses that piled up all at once. I had poor client experiences and realized that I probably wasn't experienced enough to be doing what I was doing.

In 2018, I ended up getting a job thanks to a Fastlane forum member. I had that job for a year. It taught me a lot and gave me the experience I needed in order to do anything in the digital marketing world.

I'm back to "owning my time". Things are better now, I'm not taking the bus everywhere, and I'm working on more things. But time and time again, I fell back into that place of not doing anything, not being motivated to do much, coasting on whatever accounts I had at the time. "Start with WHY" helped a lot.

I just re-read my intro post. Damn, I sound exactly the same. I’m even doing the same stuff. The main difference is I was less jaded back then. Bless.
