Hello everyone.

I've never done an intro thread, so you know nothing about my situation: Currently, I'm in college (3rd year of five) and since I read TMF and Unscripted I've done practically nothing (action-faking). Probably because I'm comfortable with my situation, I never worked and never had an FTE moment (It doesn't hurt enough).

I think the best decision is to finish college since I'm in a quite prestigious college and will have no debt. I don't wanna work forever, but probably after college, I'd start my journey with at least a good job.

So now to the point: even if I am in college and not looking for a business right now, I want to start learning some valuable skills, in particular I was thinking a good starting point nowadays was to learn how to drive traffic. So what do you think of learning through affiliate marketing? I'll learn how to promote other products/services/courses, and maybe I could make some money in the process.
Your opinion? Is there something better I could do? Am I totally wrong about this not Fastlane approach?

Thanks to everyone.

Going to college without debt = Its good so that you don't have tension

Affiliate Marketing = You will make commission, not in regular way. But it maybe give you head start

Just do something that works for you, not against you.

Getting started with something that's low risk is a nice way to dip your toe in the water.

If you're going to ride through college, I had one massive take away from my years and years of higher education, including a top three school - the network you build will be infinitely more valuable then most of the things you learn. Oh, and number two, hire an accountant. It's mind-numbingly boring to do and it's incredibly important.

If you want to affiliate market, you'll probably have to learn how to rank on search engines, write copy, and build landing pages.

I think more than anything else, actually getting down and dirty and DOING the work will serve you best in the long run.

Personally, I made the mistake of trying to learn everything before doing anything. Never again. If I could start over, I would try to start to apply myself (at whatever, SEO/coding/ecomm/etc) ASAP and learn by doing.

I think definitely the network my college offers is the reason why it is so highly considered and so much expensive. The quality of the courses and the teachers are good but not exceptional.

I agree. One of the reasons I action-faked all these months is because I repeatedly said to myself that I wasn't ready to start, I just needed another course, another forum etc.
My idea is to learn very basic affiliate marketing and then start to invest money: I'll certainly lose some money, but if not so, I will never make real progress.

Affiliate marketing is yesterday's drop shipping.

Ask, "How can I help people?" more than "How can I make $$$$$$?". Of course consider the ways in which you can help that make money, as in don't go start volunteering at a food bank as a job. But how to make money is not a great primary consideration.

This flows through MJ's commandment of Need. From the Need, comes the rest, never before.

You're right, but my primary consideration is learning digital marketing, which creates value for the producer of the product I am promoting. Why do you say affiliate marketing is the past? Today facebook ads, google ads, instragram ads etc. seem to be a big opportunity and I don't see the difference by promoting your product or others product (to start, of course)

For starters, google hates the typical affiliate marketing websites.

In short, unless you are already an awesome marketer you will probably not succeed in affiliate marketing. 10 years ago, sure you had a great shot. Today? Not really.

Affiliate marketing is very mature. The new hot thing is dropshipping. But the same thing really goes for that too.

That said, if you choose a niche to be an affiliate marketer for, and put out lots of good content, you have a real shot, and google will rank you too. But the key is the content and value you're adding. Otherwise you're basically not gonna get much traction at all without content and without being very well versed at digital marketing.

So if you're going to go through the trouble of creating a whole bunch of content, why not sell your own product instead of someone else's for a small cut that is also not unique to you?

From personal experience, you may do better to make it your primary consideration to create value, and let learning digital marketing be a by-product.

My advice would be to do something that is linked to your course, or that would compliment it well. Success is that bit easier if you start of doing something you already know.

What about getting clients who sell products, services, or courses, and running digital marketing campaigns for them? The client pays you, to manage *their* ad spend, and you build relationships with business owners.

From my limited knowledge of affiliate marketing:
  • You pay the ad spend.
  • You don’t get paid unless you make sales.
  • You can be unprofitable (lose money).
  • If you go through an affiliate network to promote an offer then you don’t build a direct relationship with the client.
  • You’re competing with many other affiliates trying to sell that product, rather than having an exclusive deal with them.
  • You’re not rubbing shoulders with business owners every day. (Bonus tip: if you want to get mentored by business owners then talk to them, work with them, and learn from them - by serving them.)

Hi,
There is nothing to be afraid of stepping into affiliate marketing. The only thing you need to be careful about is how to invest your money. Here are some things you need to consider when you are ready to dive into business.
Find the client website with higher traffic so that your affiliate marketing techniques work out well
You can even create your own blog so that you can explain the pros and cons of the product and give a direct link to it.
Try reaching out to review sites to gain more views.
If you are really interested in making money out of it, I bet surely you can because there are so many folks who are doing it and making some hard cash! Best of luck!
