RISKS IN DIY SOURCING AND IMPORTING
A recent post almost escaped my attention because it was posted in a forum that was not relevant to the subject.
The member was not an importer, but had sent back to his supplier a component part that needed calibrating, and he guessed how he could avoid paying duty, but he was a very long way off the mark.
A question before shipping the component would have saved him a substantial amount, because now, if he is to retrieve the item he will have lost not only the first lot of duty paid by his supplier on receipt of the item, but will also end up paying duty a second time.

What this demonstrates is the need to search before entering uncharted waters. A reasonable search should have led to my AMA.
Even if the answer required is too lengthy to post, and I suggest that it is advisable to buy my book for a complete answer, the ROI should be considered. (Not so in this case. I would have briefly answered with sound advice and prevented the problem arising.)
