So you are selling software(or SAAS?), Why didn't you mention that in your main copy ? Until then I thought you were offering some kind of freelance service.
Well I am awful at copy writing. I also thought SaaS might be too complicated a term.

What I am trying to do is a hybrid. Where I build and set up software for people then provide support. So it is kind of both. Freelance software building and support.

Your probably more confused now.

Sales for Dummies 101.

We all know Pork Ribs and Beef Ribs taste great, but it's not the meat that tastes good, it's the sauce. Your customers have heaps of Beef and Pork Ribs, they just want you to add a sauce, no-one has ever tasted before.

I'm working on that. The issue is I am a steak buyer. I won't even have the sauce.

I'm clueless at the sizzle. I'm an analytical buyer myself. So I would want to buy the steak. I do make an attempt to write what I think would appeal to the people.

It's awkward as I have no way of gauging improvement.

I'm clueless at the sizzle. I'm an analytical buyer myself.

There is no such thing called analytical buyer. It has been scientifically proven that we humans make decisions with emotions and then use logic to justify it. (read Descartes' Error by Antonio Damasio for proof)

In copywriting world, there is a fundamental rule called "Features vs Benefits".It means that your copy should only focus on "Benefits" (what your product/service can do for them .i.e what results can you get for your clients) and not on "Features" (what your product is made of, etc). This is what John Caples calls appealing to your customer's self-interest or @Lex DeVille calls "You focus".

Sorry to disappoint all the advice-givers; LittleWolfie is clearly not serious, clueless, delusional, or all three. My advice for him would be to find a structured environment and learn to follow directions and do a simple job. Justification for my opinion follows.

I have no idea why people don't buy your market prediction algorithm but I know that people will say no to you generally based for these 3 points:

Well, I have an idea. Market prediction is very hard to do. It is next to impossible to do for an individual, unless they are exceptional in some way, and then there are objective criteria (e.g. they have received a major prize in math or computer science) and/or they have worked at a top trading firm and know what they are talking about. In order to work at a top trading firm you need very strong communication skills; this guy will not last for ten minutes.

LittleWolfie's market prediction algorithm is just a fantasy, as is his SaaS. Again, do you seriously think someone with communication skills and awareness at 0/10 level will be able to deliver something of value? This SaaS will require 10 hours just to create an account, because you'd have to take a personality test first.

Whether the guy is not serious, or delusional, or has a cognitive impairment to which we have to be sympathetic; either way, the advice is wasted.
If you are not yet convinced, just read through this nonsense:

"Someone has already paid me. I am using this to fund in-person cold calls" — how is a call in-person?

"macro to save word document as vba script. " — what?! How would an arbitrary document become a VBA script, and why would it make any sense?

"Figuring out how to explain what is easily automated to a layman has if I recall correctly a million dollar prize from Google." — ?! Of course, there's no such million dollar prize. And okay, I am not a layman, nobody on this forum is; why can't we understand?

"Analysing large amounts of stock data to draw conclusions, using twitter to respond to specifc keywords, sentiment analysis(in this case for finding out emotion/postivity for stock market prediction" — this is not drudge work, lol.

Never seen this thread to the title was changed (muuch more clickable now) - wow there is some amazing advice in here.

From the original post...

"Authentically Honest, hard-working guy looking to trade time/skills for money"

@LittleWolfie - what are 3-5 things you specifically could offer right now today for people on here with a clear price and value.

Example - "I will take your YouTube videos and turn the content into a quick guide and actionable list you can get your subscribers to download in exchange for an email address. $37 per video or 4 for $99."

My problem with trying to hire you is from reading this thread I got zero idea what you would be good and what the rough cost or value would be.

I am sure other posters have already covering this too - I am still working through the previous posts since there is so much good advice.

I’m curious @LittleWolfie:
  • Can you create bots to “scrape” websites or Facebook pages and pull back data parsed into rows in a Google Sheet?
  • Can you take rows in a Google Sheet as input and generate a web page per row?
  • Can you take a description of up to 40 characters and split it into two Google Ads headlines of up to 30 characters, where the split isn’t partway through a word in the original 40 character description?
  • Can you take the listings from a Shopify store and convert it into a Google Sheet to be uploaded to Google Merchant Center as a supplemental feed for Google Shopping campaigns?
  • Can you setup and automate reports from Google Data Studio so that every Monday 30 clients get a weekly view of their last 10 weeks performance? Also adding in the Change Log and Comments from a Google Sheet setup for each client?
  • Can you automatically pause the ad group for any keyword that has a quality score of 2 or less for charity clients so they can stay compliant with Google’s policies and remain eligible for their $10k/mth grant for ad spend.
  • Can you bulk upload 30 Soundcloud recordings into iTunes and retain their creation dates?
  • Can you bulk change the description and tags for over 100 YouTube videos that haven’t got any description or tags? Maybe from a Google Sheet so formulae can be used to generate the descriptions and tags?
  • Can you set up Thrivecart and ActiveCampaign so that a paid email newsletter can be created that automatically unsubscribes people when they stop paying?
  • Can you create a Zapier zap so that people who buy a Thinkific course get tagged or added to another MailCheat(Chimp) list or are otherwise separated from the people just taking the free trial?

PS: I’m expecting you to say “No”, or “Not yet”. These are just examples of real life automations that could help a real life business owner. Automations that likely help other business owners too.

Can you write similar examples of what you *have* done that can show people what you’re capable of, and to get their wheels turning?

I think @LittleWolfie has a mental image on what he wants, but is unsure how to bring it too fruition. Putting him down with negative comments isn't going to help the guy, nor is it helping anyone else on here. So hear the guy out and think first about what he said and is trying to achieve and come up with a workable solution of sorts.

There's an old saying, "Don't treat me like an idiot, I'm not one, just show me what I'm doing wrong, so I can then do it right".

I don't pretend to know anything about SaaS, because I don't, but I do get the gist of what it could achieve. Perhaps @LittleWolfie should not be at the beginning or the end, but rather in the middle. What do I mean.!!!

Currently on the forum, there is a member who is working on his 7th SaaS platform. He sounds like he knows what he is talking about, but that's my opinion. Remember, I don't know SaaS. So correct me If I'm wrong.

If @LittleWolfie was to "work with" this guy and use him to do what he requires, we then have a win - win. @LittleWolfie could then work on the sales and marketing side. From what I can work out, Google defines SaaS as Software as a service, it is a software licensing and delivery model in which software is licensed on a subscription basis and is centrally hosted. It is sometimes referred to as "on-demand software", and was formerly referred to as "software plus services" by Microdick.

Wouldn't it be beneficial, if @LittleWolfie worked with the Host and the Developer, but in a middleman capacity, this way he is exposed to both ends of the SaaS Software. He could then learn, the whole ropes from A - Z.

I can expand more, but would like to hear what @LittleWolfie feedback is.???

If anyone is doubtful of my last quote, then read this and let it sink in.

During the world war, a Chicago newspaper published certain editorials in which, among other statements, Henry Ford was called "an ignorant pacifist." Mr. Ford objected to the statements, and brought suit against the paper for libeling him. When the suit was tried in the Courts, the attorneys for the paper pleaded justification, and placed Mr. Ford, himself, on the witness stand, for the purpose of proving to the jury that he was ignorant. The attorneys asked Mr. Ford a great variety of questions, all of them intended to prove, by his own evidence, that, while he might possess considerable specialised knowledge pertaining to the manufacture of automobiles, he was in the main, ignorant.

Mr. Ford was plied with such questions as the following:

"Who was Benedict Arnold?" and
"How many soldiers did the British send over to America to put down the Rebellion of 1776?"

In answer to the last question, Mr. Ford replied,
"I do not know the exact number of soldiers the British sent over, but I have heard that it was a considerably larger number than ever went back."

Finally, Mr. Ford became tired of this line of questioning, and in reply to a particularly offensive question, he leaned over, pointed his finger at the lawyer who had asked the question, and said, "If I should really “WANT” to answer that foolish question, you have just asked, or any of the other questions, you have been asking me, let me remind you, that I have a row of electric push-buttons on my desk, and by pushing the right button, I can summon to my aid, men, who can answer ANY question, I desire to ask, concerning the business, to which I am devoting most of my efforts. → example, this forum.

Now, will you kindly tell me, “WHY” I should clutter up my mind, with general knowledge, for the purpose of being able to answer questions, when I have men around me, who can supply any knowledge I require.?"

There certainly was good logic to that reply. That answer floored the lawyer. Every person in the courtroom realised it was the answer, not of an ignorant person, but of a person of EDUCATION.

If you were to be sympathetic then what would your advice to @LittleWolfie be?

My advice would be to
(1) not worry about entrepreneurship or fastlane for now.
(2) find a job with structure and human interaction, if possible, including guiding people, helping people, convincing people. From sales, being a store clerk at a busy retail location, being a waiter a barista at Starbucks to tutoring to being an Uber driver. If not possible, pick something structured with a learning curve. If not possible, anything that pays the bills and leaves enough time in the day.
(3) find a mentor who is good at whatever he is trying to master, pay him for the learning.
(4) start learning about money. Try saving. Try negotiating the price when buying minor items. Lend someone a little money. Then try making money in new ways. Any amount counts, even $1 for an hour of work. The goal should be quantity, to experience various ways of making money, short-term and long-term, and get a better intuition.
(5) start learning more about people. Go to every possible social occasion, from birthdays to beach parties, and talk to as many people as possible.
(6) cultivate ways to give value other than by paying people. For example, if you are fun to hang out with, once you meet someone knowledgeable about entrepreneurship, they will be more inclined to hang out with you and share knowledge.
(7) start writing personal goals into a notebook (on paper) and reviewing them on a regular basis.
etc.

It is most important to have humility to seek advice and then take it and follow it. Of course, think who you are taking advice from, but otherwise that is where many people fail.

There's an old saying, "Don't treat me like an idiot, I'm not one, just show me what I'm doing wrong, so I can then do it right".

Imagine you have a person who doesn't speak English, and you are trying to explain to them how to speak to customers. It won't work. You have to explain first the alphabet and the grammar, what is "is", "he", "she", "does", "will", etc. You have to, in a sense, treat them like an idiot in that area.

My feeling is that in this case the gap is too great for the answers to be effective. The person is at 2/100, and most people here are explaining how to get from 20/100 to 40/100. I was not necessarily trying to criticitize @LittleWolfie , as he is clueless. Rather I was criticizing the advice-givers who were not providing the advice at the right level. Put differently, giving flying instructions instead of explaining, how to crawl, will not work.

Lastly, I did meet a few people in real life who seemed similar. One kept sending me 1-page proofs of the Fermat's Last Theorem. Another one sent me a resume saying he was a TV celebrity, a billionaire inventor, a scientist, and a CEO of many companies all in one. (And @LittleWolfie tried selling a stock-market prediction algorithm; this is a bit like selling a self-made UFO.)

Even on Shark Tank they had one such guy. Look up the Sullivan Generator. The sharks were laughing to tears, it is that funny.

That's certainly true. I will invest a portion of my first sales into a copywriter.

However I need to be able to afford them and trust them.

In the mean time, I'm working on copywriting see below.

Are you throwing money away? Every 10ms of website lag saves you 1% of revenue. Using laggy wordpress?

You could be losing thousands of dollars with usual 2 to 3 second delay.

Would you like a conversion to higher speed and higher static sites?

I'm also throwing in lifetime support by email/ for the first two fastlaners who sign up.

Your in the Fastlane, why leave your website in the Slowlane? Post or DM now.

/end copy sample

To be honest I'd rather have a partner or two a Jobs to the woz or a rockefeller to the plantanger if you prefer.

How to write copy that sells
The 16 word sales letter

Go buy those two book and spend a couple days reading them. Then everyday for a week write a new peice of copy. Pen and paper only!

Seven pieces of copy in seven days!

Is it a lot of work? Yes.
Will it vastly speed up your learning curve? Yes.

You can also take my more hardcore approach that has taken complete novices and gotten them up to to a point where they were making money within 90 days....

Step 1) Get those two books. Read them and take notes.

Step 2) Find someone good at copywriting and offer to pay them to review your copy and give you feedback.

Step 3) Write copy every single day for the rest of the 90 days. Bang out at least three pages a day!

Step 4) Start a swipe file. Spend an hour a day looking at copy from various sources. When you see copy you like, save it to your swipe file. Read through it and ask yourself "why does this work so well?"

Step 5) Implement feedback from your coach.

I've seen people do this and go from terrible to making money on upwork after 90 days.
