Social media could be used to follow people that give unique wisdom. This wisdom could save you a lot of time and their ideas could be implemented in your day-day life. Please assist me with improving my feed.

Don't use Instagram to follow "Fastlaners" to get wisdom. That's the role of this forum. I doubt there's any Fastlaners here dispensing advice there other than MJ.

Instagram is best used for stalking and knowing more about your ideal customer / target market, how they behave, what they like, what they do in their life, what style of writing they use, their thoughts......then with all these, you can best optimize your product / marketing for them, especially if your target market are millennials and Gen Z. By this, I'm not referring to influencers, but the average joe or jane who has 130 - 1200 followers, not super-active on Instagram, wears normal clothes (not bikinis all the time like influencers), leads a real life, and has real, non-posed shots of themselves with friends / family BBQ-ing at their yard, for example.

It's also a good place to see what your rivals are doing from time to time, what ads they're running, their newest products, how and what their customers / visitors are COMMENTING on their page etc..

It's also good when you're looking for small-time providers of services (e.g photographers/videographers/designers). Some of them would be a better fit in terms of cost vs quality compared to the ones you find on Google search (the ones ranking within first 20 results are usually too expensive for many bootstrap hustlers). Not all are good, but there's the occasional gem.

In that regard, nothing beats Instagram, not Twitter, not FB and not Pinterest.

I thought we were all on Twitter...

I posted a thread about Twitter here:

Which fastlaners do you follow on Twitter?

Despite its glaring limitations, Twitter is still one of the best platforms on the internet for assembling a curated news/content/portal feed. Even many of the platitude disseminating accounts are useful for a constant stream of motivational encouragement.

I’m still fairly new to IG.

However, There is only one person I follow right now and that is MJ

Let me explain why.

I was previously following all my friends, celebs, etc but what I found was Instagram was becoming an addiction. And that addiction was keeping me from pursuing my fast lane dreams.

For the immediate and foreseeable future, I don’t expect to follow anyone but people from here (Fastlaners). Maybe I can get better at some point about putting down the phone and just ignoring Instagram. But until then, this is my best solution.

If any of you are instagram-ers, and share fastlane related stuff, I would love to follow!

Ps. I explained to my friends the unfollow and they were very understanding!

Thanks for the replies! I agree that Instagram is not a good place to find Fastlane motivation because people only post their sweet victories and not their heartbreaking losses. It's been said a billion times, however, many of the people on there are inauthentic and never post their struggles.

Personally, I would like to see more people post motivational content after a failure or bitter loss. A lot of people think in images and Instagram would be a cool place to post progress threads with pictures.

Though I agree with inspirational texts, it is cringey as hell to quote them in your insta. More important to live it then say it.

Just a word of caution... following successful people on social media can be harmful.

It leads you to compare yourself to others and 99.9% of the time you will lose the comparison when you follow hyper successful people.
Usually it would make me feel like shit.

It can also have negative effects on your self-esteem.

I stopped doing it a couple month ago and haven't missed anything.

Usually you follow successful people to get inspiration and motivation.
Usually all you will get is desperation.

If you want to get WISDOM pick up a good book from a successfull person.
Think about it:
Social Media -> posts are created to get likes and shares & creating them takes a couple of minutes
Book -> created to solve a specific problem, to get raving 5 star reviews and mouth to mouth advertising & it took hundreds of hours to create it.

Social media is notnreality. Define happiness for yourself. If you have great health, financial freedom where you don’t have to work again getting over 70k a year, and a great family’s nd social life, you have it made and you made it. At least that is what making it for me is.

I even find this to be true...

I login and feel sub-optimal...

I'm not taking enough vacations, not speaking to enough groups, not selling enough books, not laying out by sun enough...

Very rarely do I scroll the feed.

I was doing Snapchat vlog stories a few years ago. I quite enjoyed doing them, and posting them to YouTube. I did have a play with IG last year but hated the platform as a consumer. There’s so much drivel on it. Mind you, I’m just reading the Sunday papers and there’s links to some educational IG accounts. I’m happy to never log into IG ever again though.

IG could be an amazing platform because it has photos, videos, audio, and text. It's unfortunate that the most popular entrepreneurial content is the BS quotes and motivational memes being reposted over and over by "millionaire success" acccounts.

I would tell you to put down the Instagram.

Instead of trying to find people to follow on Instagram, save the XX minutes and read through this forum taking notes and thinking between the lines of what people said, and didn't say.

You will learn more that way.

I follow MJ, Gary Vee and Tony Robbins. I realize that the latter is verboten around here, but these three Fastlaners are the most secure in their success, have a great trajectory and aren't jealous of young bucks making it. I've had great conversations and feedback personally from all. I don't waste my time following people who don't have the output to prove their value...I don't need to have you convincing me that your model works when I can see that you are capable of having endurance to play the long game.

There are a lot of great follows on Instagram but if you want real value beyond surface level YouTube tends to be better
