Well... looks like I'll be late for the first discussion !
Somehow it still hasn't shipped (I'm surprised, considering it's Amazon Prime).

I was thinking about reading that book. What were your main take aways?
That a "No" is not really a "No" but a signal that there are more information to be uncovered. Often by listening and repeating what the other part in the negotiation says.

This is driving me nuts with curiosity.. can you explain the cover to me?
Should be something with the Barbell strategy a`la Taleb. Translates outside investments into being Antifragile.

The next book discussion, should be either of these two:

Would be interesting to get a different perspective.

PLEASE VOTE ON THE BOOK TO DISCUSS.

NEW POLL EVERY MONTH.

A suggestion was made by @Primeperiwinkle to start a book discussion and review group about pre-selected books chosen by the forum.

This goes beyond just "Have you read this book?" or "I recommend this!" but to actually discuss a book chapter by chapter.

We actually did some of this many years ago.

I think we should give it a whirl.

So with that said, I'm asking for nominations for our FIRST book to officially review and discuss.

Once we decide, the forum will have a few weeks to purchase and read the book. We can then open the discussion. Looking at January 2019 for the first one.

So if you have a nomination, post away -- nominations not limited to business/entrepreneurship, but anything that can help our journey.

I'll select 5 nominees and then put it to a vote.

To nominate, please post:

1) Title
2) Author
3) LINK to the BOOK (Amazon or other),
4) COVER.

For example...

Principles by Ray Dalio

I'm about 1/2 way through "Can't Hurt Me." Is there another thread for the book discussion, or just the bits and pieces I've seen on this thread? Sorry, a bit confused.

Actual discussion hasn't started yet. Starts next week after XMAS. Giving folks time to read.

@mjdemarco said he would give us a few weeks to purchase and read to be ready by “January 2019” so I’d say in full confidence just check back here after the holidays and he will lead us onward.

Looking forward to it also, 3/4 the way through...

Damn he posts fast, but I’ll leave my original response up, lol.

I think the official Can't Hurt Me book discussion starts in January. And probably in another thread. This is for nominations.

he probably doesn't even peel the mother******
I actually don't peel the skin of potatoes or sweet potatoes, if I am steaming them.

Bothersome to do it.

I just wash it as best as I can, and roughly cut off parts that have questionable marks and scars.

Works fine for me so far. But perhaps you guys use different types of potatoes? I buy spuds from China and local, and specially like the sweet potatoes from Japan.

I'm getting this book just based on this review - thanks MTF.
The Amazon reviews are more elaborate.

I got the book and am reading it now on the train back. I already have a queue of learning stuff to do for my present Fastlane, so I was actually rushing to finish it.

I read the first few pages, and I was taken aback.

No wonder it is trending on the Amazon charts!

Goggins' book was the one that I really wanted to write. The style and authencity. Of course I'd have to live the story before writing it, but I'll use it for a reference when the time comes.

Extremely powerful insights. He actually thought and considered the lessons from bad life experiences, even way back in childhood. How many of us actually remember our childhoods and learned from them?

Was actually rooting for Chet Holmes' Sales Machine, but that can wait, I guess.

i buy regular ole brown potatoes. Pealing the skin versus cleaning the uneven potato surface and potential nooks and crannies is faster.
I do think about not pealing sometimes because i know they say lots of the vitamins are concentrated in the skin.

If you bought a hardcover, it's out of stock. Can you return your purchase since it hasn't shipped and get it electronically instead? I love my Amazon Fire.

I feel like it really depends on how ordinary your childhood was and how you reflect on it. I personally don't believe there's such thing as a ''normal'' childhood, but some stand out more than others. If your childhood was anything like David Goggin's, it's probably nearly impossible not to look back at it almost daily, consciously or subconsciously.

Thank you for the info. I'll do exactly as you said, even though I would've like the paper version (it seems like the paperback version wouldn't work either).

I'd like to nominate "The 5 Choices" by Kory Kogon.

The cover is a bit cheesy, but this book has REALLY helped me rethink how I best manage my time as an entrepreneur, and the way we are all wired to work on meaningless "important" tasks.

Haven’t read the book yet, but Goggin’s stuff really motivates me. I remember biking last summer and the top of the summit was like 10 minutes away and I’d say to myself, Goggins wouldn’t give up here. Whenever I’m tired I hear his voice... the brain gives up when the body can do 40% more.

My friends and I reference his stuff a lot when we workout. Below is a text exchange from last month when my friend was tired lol.

Can’t wait to read his new book!

Goggins must have been basically sold out on AMZ because it took extra time to ship, and I had to pay extra for soft cover.

Not sure why I prefer soft cover but I do, and can’t figure out for the life of me why it costs more.

$22 and 8 days of waiting and finally here yesterday. Let’s get this thread started kids.

Purchased kindle version. 1 minute download. Read: 1 day. Got audible version as well. I like the audible version better.

The narrator kills it. Then David comes on. Like a podcast all most.

Got through the first 100 pages of Goggins last night and I actually grew up not far from the small Indiana town he played high school ball in. I can actually remember going to basketball games at those small town gyms where the home team had 1 solo black player, probably the only minority in the entire school, and hearing all the blatantly racist shit people would say in the stands.

Hardcore flashbacks.

Gotta be one of the most impressive human being ever, and very engagingly written.

Just started Goggins' book. My thought was that I would need to make sure to carve out some time to get through the first few chapters so I would be ready for the discussion.

F*ck. I'm already on page 88 and I can't put this thing down.

I nominate Gorilla Mindset.

Instead of long stories about how badass the writer is, you get truly ACTIONABLE & concise advice that helps you live a more fruitful life -- and deal with the stress that might come with the lifestyle of pursuing financial freedom.
