I'm a bit nervous to post. But here goes.

As some of you know -- My niche is in Audio Production for Podcasts.

But...

I'm doing my Customers a disservice by NOT hosting my own show, and formalizing some discussions I've had in person with peers that has helped them.

Also doing this as practice for public speaking, as I've had my first radio interview the other day and totally flunked. Being head-deep in business has been detrimental to my social skills.

Here's the first episode, where I've fleshed out WHY I went into Business, and how someone can determine if they should go into business. Also covered some very basic Business Knowledge for someone who may only be interested / pure beginner. Trying my best to keep in condensed with lost of valuable information, a la the Forever Jobless Podcast:

Let me know what you think?

p.s. asking for the @SinisterLex non-guru funnel golden stamp of approval :)

You're taking action and thats been better than most but I shut off after literally 30 seconds because.....well it's boring...
-I would change the title to something more click baity such as "How to execute fast" or "break out of your comfort zone NOW"
-I feel asleep at the intro music, I would use more electronic music beats to wake up your audience
-Try to sound a bit more enthusiastic and grab your audiences attention, it sounds as if you are reading something
-a partner would be great if you can't carry a show by your self.
-Pat Flynne has a great podcast with tons of value, you might want to check out his podcast for ideas

Appreciate the feedback and will consider some of the tweaks you've mentioned.

That being said...
Because this 'style' isn't something you expected, you may not be my market.

I'm not aiming for creating a show that's artificially hyped/clickbait.
The tone is intentional. Aiming for content that is condensed, with a voice of sincerity.

BUT. If more people chime in and the consensus is that it's objectively boring, then I've failed in my execution and that's something I'll need to know about.

Congrats on your execution! Here’s my 2 cents:

Since this is a youtube video, why not record yourself talking? Video + audio = increased retention of attention. If you don’t want to record yourself, perhaps you might want to consider putting a different image in your video? Something related to your business maybe.

Also doing this as practice for public speaking, as I've had my first radio interview the other day and totally flunked. Being head-deep in business has been detrimental to my social skills.

You should join a Toastmasters club. Different club has different culture. Go for clubs that have more professionals. Put in your effort and you’ll find yourself improving by leaps and bounds.

Because this 'style' isn't something you expected, you may not be my market.

Who is your target audience? Youngsters? People of all ages who are interested to in entrepreneurship? What kind of “style” do you think your target audience would expect?

The tone is intentional. Aiming for content that is condensed, with a voice of sincerity.

I would compare your tone to a news reading. Is that what you are going for? I can’t tell your sincerity from the audio because while you’re trying to sound professional, the other elements were lost. A bit more vocal variety, coupled with different pacing would improve that. I do notice vocal variety and pacing in the video, just apply a bit more into it. You are addressing people, who are emotional beings after all. You can be professional and sound non-robotic at the same time.

All the best!

Very good points here. Haven't thought about video, will definitely consider it now!

The image was mainly to convey a sense of inspiration. It was from last February when myself and several Fastlaners went hiking before the summit -- It was one of those "Holy Shit I'm Actually Here" moments that I wanted to use.

Who is your target audience? Youngsters? People of all ages who are interested to in entrepreneurship? What kind of “style” do you think your target audience would expect?

To give you some background -- I'm making this mostly for personal friends / peers who I've spoken with about business or success. The first episode (and all following) are re-iterations of actual conversations I've had with these friends. Guys / Gals in their early 20's who wanted some help.

So, I'd say the 'Target Audience' for now is the early 20's crowd who are interested in improving their current situation with simple, practical advice -- in a non-boisterous manner from someone who is somewhat more relatable (in terms of age).

While I don't claim to have all the answers, I wanted to release to the general public for a few reasons...

-'Personal Branding' (whatever tf that means)
-Improve Speaking Ability / Quality
-Formalize My Own Thoughts
-Help Others at Scale

...It's also a lot easier to send a friend a podcast episode I've recorded than to re-explain everything :)

Got it. After re-listening, this is something that really DOES need to be improved.
In trying too hard to sound perfect, the end product is something robotic-like.

Thoughts are bubbling. Back to the lab...

I’ve not listened yet.

Are you talking on your own?

Why not record a chat with one of your aforementioned friends?

I know my recordings are unpolished, but the stuttering, interruptions, and working stuff out as we speak certainly makes them authentic, if not everyone’s cup of tea.

sounds good! liked the music...may I ask how do we make a podcast fastlane??

Time for a rant that I haven't been able to vent anywhere else.

A Podcast by itself cannot be Fastlane.
It's simply a channel in your marketing arsenal to sell products/services.

Ever wonder why new Podcasts disappear just months after their launch?

It's because a lot of newbie entrepreneurs who drink the EOF and Patt Flynn Kool-Aid believe that the Podcast is the Business. They think they can become rich by buying their courses, starting a podcast, and somehow figure out how to 'monetize' their content months down the line.

These cronies make money from other people copying them.

A Podcast is NOT a business.
It can NOT be Fastlane.
It is a Tool.

Start with the Product or Service.
If starting a Podcast will help you sell your Product or Service, then start.

But for the love of God, avoid the trap of starting a Podcast for no reason.

Agreed. A podcast is just a marketing channel.

But for the love of God, avoid the trap of starting a Podcast for no reason.

I have what I'd call an "accidental podcast". I was already chatting to people. I just did that extra twist of recording and publishing some of those chats.

My reason was because I thought they might help more people than just the person I was talking to.

Will see what could be done -- there are a few young people from the summit that will be able to add value here!
Ok, so I'm listening as I write.

You've a great voice (and mic I guess!) and you speak clearly.

I'm guessing you're reading from a script? I've done videos where I read from a script and they were very flat compared to how I normally speak.

Video reading from a script (slightly better than I remembered tbh):
Video of me standing and just waffling:

Doing sole person videos is a really strange experience. For those "selfie videos" I really found the Snapchat app helpful. You can do up to 10 second bursts, which means you can keep redoing a sentence until you're happy with it, and edit as you go along.

I definitely think your passion and personality would come through more if you were having a natural conversation with someone.

And I think allowing yourself to be less than perfect will help too.

As Doberman Dan says: "Give yourself permission to suck."

HTH!

EDIT: Kudos for putting yourself out there. It's a very hard thing to do first time round.

I remember my first talking head video took me ages getting over myself. Ha!

Here it is again (relevant message I think):

Ahhhh... them were the days.

EDIT2: Feedback after listening:
  1. The musical intro was a bit too long. Short jingle and straight into it.
  2. As a video, it would help to have your face to keep us engaged, or slides, rather than the same still.
  3. I did drift off listening, and couldn't tell you what my one takeaway is from the video/podcast. (Sorry!) Mind you, I was multi-tasking so that doesn't help. But then, many people will multi-task and listen.

Blimey Andy, THANK YOU for the help!

No script, but rather I'd think of something to say, say it, and basically construct a whole story from those clips. Doesn't matter though. A robot will sound like a robot despite the intent to sound 'polished.'

EDIT: Kudos for putting yourself out there. It's a very hard thing to do first time round.

Thanks Andy. That's why this is out there -- for feedback.
If it weren't for this forum, I could have put my head down, shut out opinions, and never understood why I wasn't getting any response from listeners.

There's the rub, haha! Appreciate the feedback.
Immediately implementing your suggestions.

Will stick to the audio-only format for now (sorry!)

Not trying to avoid everyone suggesting to get on camera -- just wanted to bang out this next one so I could forget the last.

Here's the next one:
"Lifestyle is the Result, Not the Goal"

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mspZ9XViJ0Y

I've thoroughly enjoyed doing this one, and it addresses something I've thought about for a while now. That is, should aiming for a certain lifestyle be the end goal of entrepreneurship? Or, should we focus on reaching as many customers as possible?

Improvements Implemented:
-Speech is much more off-the-cuff and natural. The speech in this one is much more like what it'd be like if we were having a conversation in person.
-Trying to grab listener's attention with short intro teaser (speech) followed by getting RIGHT into the topic
-More high energy intro track to grab listener's attention
-Shortened intro track

I think the main thing that could be improved is trying to be more organized in my approach and less like a ramble. That will improve with time though.
