Don't be like me. This is 96wells and this is going to be my progress thread. I'll document my failure and successes, mainly in ecommerce and copywriting.

My goal currently is to get a job at a major copywriting house within 1-3 months. By then I should have already sold my first (unique) product on Amazon to see if the demand is there. Then I will go from there to refine my processes in line with CENTS Commandments.

I'll also document some past successes that have helped me today. This includes:

  1. How to have mental clarity by learning how to distinguish between psychological and physical hunger. Similar note, how to maintain/lose weight so you are healthy. This is so you can operate at peak level in your own business.
  2. How NOT to do weight training so you don't injure yourself. Similarly, how to structure your time around your work to get a workout. It’s important to have health so you’re not distracted by pains.
  3. Past tricks that I still use to help me stay on task and not be distracted by temptations that have long-term consequences. Things like hanging out with the wrong crowd or being tempted by people that don’t have your best interest.
  4. I’ll show you some other side projects I’m working on that may help my two main fields (copywriting and ecommerces)

Now. I don’t want you to be like me. I want you to walk your own path and be you. I am also not an expert (take my journey/advice with a grain of salt). I know personally, I am not a super technical person so I’m never going to be an expert in wordpress coding or crypto or real estate etc. I’m not super passionate about them. But I’ll be doing (learning) things that complement the fields I am in even without passion, including using practical psychology, talking/socializing/negotiating, traveling to different countries, working in challenging environments, delegating and freeing up time, and hanging out in the right masterminds.

I have my own reasons for doing what I am doing now. If you're just starting out you have to try a few things. I hope this thread helps you understand some details about my main fields, e-commerce and copywriting.

For ecommerce, as I stand now, one product is already coming in. I am going to have to see if it would sell. I already see a problem that has to do with lack of control that I will try to solve. In the past I sold a little bit (arbitrage) to get familiar with the system; I think I MIGHT break even on those. This is a long-term project that will ultimately be my cash cow.

For copywriting I am in a financial copywriting group. The instructor is working the publishing house where I want to work. So my main focus is to do whatever he tells me to do for several months. The main goal is to get the job so I can train my skills there for several years. Then I'll use this skill (and cash reserves) to leverage my e-commerce.

My main goal is at least 10 million in 10 years, but I will try to do it in fewer years. Again, I have my own reasons, namely, I want to make sure my friends and family are secure, I want to travel a bit, and I want to take classes in fields that don't pay well... etc.

I will see you guys in the next episode when I have the results. Maybe around a few months later.

P.S. I did edit this main post a few times. The following posts you will see a lot of feedback on my scammy initial post. I apologize beforehand and I wish you the best.

Ok so I'm at the fastlane summit and it's ending now. And I'm really thinking about all that happened and what I can share.

The way I see this progress thread going is I'm not just going to give you all my theory. I'm a big thinker and reader type guy.

But there are some things I learned in this fastlane summit that opened my eyes to how my goals would work out in the long run. I will share my goals in the future, but for now, I want to really give you guys some things I have in my mind. I'll start with just one that I feel...if I internalize this, would help me actually stay on this path.

Basically, put the problem first.

No one explicitly said this but I was talking with...(I'll leave out the name for now until I contribute more to the forum) about my concerns with FBA and asking him what he did.

He tells me the only difference between him and me is that he has been doing things for, ehm, more than a decade? (A long time)

Men are problem solvers. When he started he bought one of the tools of his project and just started figuring stuff out as they come. 4 years later he sold it and moved on to the next one.

And I thought about how much imaginary problems we put in our heads about what we need to do and what knowledge we may need. We forget to just take it a step at a time.

Now, one thing I am doing is e-commerce, for the first time (I'm not good at anything remember?) So anyone that did ecommerce may know that if you ship some volume of a product from far away there's a long waiting perioid. You can choose air for an extra charge.

So I guess it's easy to just relax and think about all the problems that may or may not occur.

My take away is, we just need to relax and solve the problem as they come. When the problem comes you have an urgency to solve it.

You can think about the problem but like... thinking about your girl crush ain't going to make her love you, and it's just going to make you hesitant about approaching her. Similar thing.

You worry. Maybe it doesn't work out. Your mental map of this problem might be so enlarged that you just quit. Watch out for that. I'm sure many people quit just because of their inside voices.

[MAYBE I'll write one or some more post on what I learned about the summit on mentality. I think it can really help people but in the end... Seriously, what I just implied to you, in this long-winded post, was that you need to take some action to learn...]

Again, we are problem solvers. Real problems. I'll leave it at this for now.

LAST THING I WANT TO ADDRESS. My first post seemed like shit. I'll try to make it better over time but I thought it was a good opportunity to help you understand a little about me.

After long contemplation, I always had a problem sort of staying on topic (ever since I was born from hell). Trust me when I say ideas like to have fun with me. That... I get a high from acting (or more standup), and please read the forum title again.

Being 'decentralized' and off topic can be disasterous for writing and copywriting. SO please tell me if my post sucks, I'll always try to make it better. It's how I learn. Well, it's how I notice; it certainlly makes sense to me but the writer don't catches stuff (especially now it's 1 am and I gotta wake up at 5 am, similar as the first post). It's why copy is so appealing to me.

IF my post helps you, upvote. I crave the validation.
Cheers.

@96wells when I read your first post on this thread, I was confused. Then when I read your latest post I was confused again. You were pointing at different directions at the same time, which made people question what they just read. Perhaps you could mention 1 or 2 main points per posting, and elaborate them using the 5Ws and 1H? (who, what, where, when, why and how)

For example, you want to talk about how you became a multi-millionaire, maybe put a bit of structure to your post to make it easier to read?

Where did it all begin?
Why did you pick that particular market and use that strategy?
How did you grow your business?
What were the obstacles and milestones in your journey?
When did you get your big break?
Who were the people who helped / screwed you along the way?

I'm sure you have a lot to share with the forum. Putting your points and sentences in a more structured way would definitely help to get the messages across =)

OK I will go back and edit them SOON. Let me get back into my routine habits again.

I'll edit it like this. 1 idea.

first post. I don't promise anything but here are my goals' ultimate outcome and how you can benefit from reading.

Second post. I want you to get the concept of getting the problem first.

@OMDA your image is not really loading. I'm not really sure if Andrew is a well-respected guy or you are all just joking on his expense. If the latter please cut the shit.

Don't bother with the Andrew remark. It's not worth your time. However if you have a lot of time to waste and you want some good entertainment look for his latest post. It's still in the top 50 latest comments page (He claimed to have left this forum by the way)

Look forward to your sharing!

Forced people to like me (oh he's just so warm and jolly),
This phrase right here, "Says to me, this is a waste of my time."
If you need to force me to like you, it's not authentic. It's not genuine. And most likely if I stick around listen to what you have to say, I'll see right through you. See your wearing a mask, and not what you see at face value. And you don't have my best interest at heart. You just want to sell me something for your own personal gain. And I'll be the first to walk away without give you a dime.
Became an absolute expert in several crafts,
I don't care how many crafts you became and expert in, and how does that apply to my life?
Have the admiration of several beautiful girls,
Most men do have the admiration of beautiful girls. The world is a huge candy store. As the feminine it signals to me you love hanging out in the candy store and can't make a choice, stick to it long-term, and if you're bad with being disciplined with women, you're probably led by your five senses and pleasure, and not showing up in life even when it comes to handling money or business. And hot chic can come along and manipulate you, seduce you, and spend all your hard earned money, and you allowed her because she's so beautiful, using her body, and has your five senses at her finger tips.
And how to get fit/healthy enough to protect yourself and your loved ones.

From the feminine point of view: Your body doesn't protect you or your loved ones. My friend was shot down on a motorcycle, worked out every day, a wrestler, and he made one bad choice, and it ended his life, and left his daughter and wife behind. Who protects them now. A peak performance mind, using your brain, and making the right choices is how you protect your family. Still there is no guarantee. Body is nice to look at, perhaps if you'r a bouncer you might throw people out, or a security guard, police, or military, but frankly, any other way, your physical body doesn't do anything. That's more of an Ego trip. I agree a healthy body is important for Entrepreneurship, should have the right nutrients, and fit, it's your vehicle in life. Those two different points of view are where you must see the difference between Ego and true health. The motivations and intentions.

@Mattie Nice ok thanks, let me see how to tweak my first post. I'm just going to brainstorm and think more about the points on the plane. I didn't sleep so bare with me.

1) The verb is not right then, probably more like this: Develop the right attitude about people that makes it easier for me to talk and listen to them and how to be more truthful.

2) Something like, I'll show you different ideas from different disciplines so you can discover what you would like to do; since I will be trying a lot of things. You'll learn from my mistakes and how to mitigate your own mistakes, and I'll try to make it as easily digestible so you don't waste time deciphering what I mean...

3) Ok I see. HMM... I'm going to approach this from a different angle then. I'll say this. How to not overindulge in the vices so you can operate at peak performance at your business and not feel guilty about letting yourself get irresponsible with your life. I'll show you how to have spontaneity in your life without the burden of shame (as much as you can control). [I will get more specific but I'm thinkin']

4) THIS Is a very tough one. I am very sorry about your friend. I'll probably split this into two points. 1 would say, I'll show you a bit on how to eat healthy so you can distinguish between real hungry and psychological hunger. and I'll show you how much you are bogged down by your own mind just from your food intake, somehow.

2nd would say, I'll show you have to become physically able so you may not make the same mistakes I did in fitness training or maybe you just want the ability to bend down without breaking a sweat.

I understand where you're coming from, so I won't making a point about being physically able to protect your own family.

You know, the ego thing is tough. I'll probably say this then.

I'll try to convince you that having a physically able and somewhat attractive body can help increase your chances in the most unlikely things. (I'm going to have to work on this a little bit more but I'll sleep on it, this one is not my strong suite)

OK I tried to remove myself from most of my points (even though I use the word "I" a lot), but I WILL SAY THIS, just to be super clear

1) I'm not going to sell you all anything.
2) I said admiration from girls, not let's go to town. Weird phrasing? Yes.

@96wells , here's what's tripping me up on the first post still:

The title of the thread is "How to not be like me". But I don't know who you are. From my perspective, maybe I do want to be you? Maybe I don't? But the problem is I'm still not sure who you are. If you were someone infamous, I would be interested in a book with a title like this. For instance, if Mike Tyson, someone who's dealt with a lot of what he says false accusations over his life, wrote a book with a title like this it would be interesting.

The other point of confusion is: Wait a second, are you a millionaire already, giving advice? Or are you developing this as a draft progress thread so you can keep track of what you're doing as you are building your business? It's really unclear. As a casual reader, I'm interested in that story. That story could be quite interesting. Maybe if you explain a little how you got to be a millionaire in some industry first, and give the reader time to digest it, it'll be easier to follow.

If you made tons of money with ecommerce, great! Just tell us. What were your techniques? What did you have to overcome to get there? That hooks many, many people. That gets your audience. Then, if you have some important lessons of things to avoid, after you have established the interesting parts, then that could be really interesting.

FWIW, I'm not a millionaire yet. I'm still looking for that ice cream. So I'm waiting to find out how you first got there, because that's the candy I'm after at the time. I want to trust you. But I'm crazy about that candy. Where's the candy? Once I have it in my hand and unwrap it, and take my first bite, I can taste that sweetness and calm down long enough to tell me how what I just did could rot my teeth. Until then, I just hear some guy babbling on about carbs, sugars, processed foods, and other words I'm not listening at the time. I just want candy. I'm not sure if he has any candy. But I want some candy.

Hey man thanks for the feedback. I actually can't change the title (or can I?) I mean I tried and I want to but I can't.

OK I gotcha. Just to be clear, I'm not a multimillionaire, I don't have a ecommerce empire. This was suppose to be a progress thread to be those things.

I'll edit these later I gotta sleep but I'll keep all you guys' feedback in mind.

And I get it, you want the candy. It's not sexy and you may not check this thread for more than a year... but maybe a bit after you and I would be surprised.

Hi, I know I told you to make a progress thread on the forum after we chatted yesterday. However this is not a progress thread. This is more like a brain dump of what you are thinking at the moment which are the current direction that it’s going will basically amount to nothing.

What I suggest is you take a step back and only reply to this thread after real progress has happened.

Ok so having the worse progress thread start, and I was a bit insecure about it.

But after talking I thought I would update this and keep it real. I would really like to make some friends here, and I think sharing some pains would help.

There are some things I learned about copywriting and ecommerce that I feel might help 1 person. If not help, he will gain a new perspective. That's enough.

I think it will be a progress thread full of failures, so let's just start with copywriting, my main focus.

I'm trying to get into the financial copywriting niche. Why? If you get into a major financial publishing firm like Agora then you could potentially make 6 figures. My coach does it, he probably makes $200,000+.

Before I took the client role. I was skeptical, $200,000+ really? I asked him why he doesn't just retire to Thailand.

He started bashing all the shitty Thailand freelancers. Now, later on, I realize not a lot of people like freelancers.

Example: I'm trying to get into a firm run by a senior copywriter. He basically shared this info: Out of 6-7 freelancers he hired, probably 1 will give enough shit (or know enough) to write a good piece.

What does that mean for you? Let's say this. My coach recently went on those financial copywriting summits (lots of summits these days) to give a talk.

After the event there were people rushing up to him about hiring lots of copywriting geniuses. In 2018, yup.

And you think everyone would be using templates.

Every industry could always use some sells. It's the difference between a good and profitable business and a bad one.

A copywriter is an offline salesman that have to take into account almost every objection a potential buyer might have. It's not just babysitting-selling anymore.

The main advantage of being a copywriter is that sales letter can scale.

A good copy is the link from business to money. Direct response is the probably most profitable way to earn money for businesses, not just building a brand (think about it).

When you're closer to sales, you make big bucks. That's why copywriter make big bucks.

A direct response letter generates a response better than a brand (no one said you can't do both). So this skill easily carry over to eccomerce if you do it right.

And there is a big difference between an amateur copywriter and a copywriter that writes everyday instead of chilling in Thailand.

Here is one lesson I will expand on in the future. It's the most important lesson I learned about copywriting to date, here it is for free for you:

Copywriting is not a one-man job.

This post sets a setting for me. I'm just starting out in this business. I hustle everyday practicing. And you'll see a lot of my struggles in future posts. The tiny things...

Actually, you might not see what I'm writing unless you have experience. So that's always preferable and we can have a discussion here.

Now I learned a lot in a short time and I'm just distilling... hope it's not hard to read...

So here's a tl;dr for today...it's a start:

1) Copywriting is sales. If you're around sales you can make a lot of money.
2) There's always a demand for copywriters because you can make a lot of money for businesses, even local ones.
3) What differentiates a good copywriter and a bad one is a habit of constantly practicing and struggling.
4) Copywriting is not a one man's job.

So here's a vision that Porter wrote out while pumping out weights (so I heard).

Now Stansberry Research is a financial advising company within the massive ad monster called Agora. Agora probably make a billion a year all together.

Now the vision board... it has some significance if you would consider that Stansberry Research got sued for a few million (?) for being accused of dishonesty.

And to me it's something of a marvel to look at it. Please look at point 8.

Anyone can be a hero. The solution to any problem starts with you.

Maybe Porter could of folded. But he came back and decided his company should be based on honesty. He probably wrote the vision in less than an hour (wouldn't be surprised).

Honesty is a tough lesson that I want you to consider. It's a million dollar lesson.

Everytime I write copy now I think about how I can be honest without being a dimwit.

Because copywriting is essentially sales. Let's say someone ask you this: you can either be a witty and dishonest salesman, or the honest salesman that's look out for other people..

"And if you're a dishonest and witty salesman, you will gain a few million more based on your skills alone." The guy said...

Which would you choose?

Consider, sales is about making connections with other human beings. At one point you realize making connections is what you're doing when you copywrite... instead of chasing after an imaginary number.

A good copy letter always considers from the opposites views. You're shifting a desire in front of your customer's face. You need to know what they're thinking. You need to stay up to date.

You need to be honest.

So essential, the better you are at copywriting, the better you are at relationships (don't quote me on this).

So if I have to choose, if I have to give up my wit for honesty, I'd probably choose honesty. I choose looking out for others. Not because I'm a good person.

But because people are a primary motivation for me. Being around the right people makes me happy.

That's worth more than few million bucks.

And I can sleep at night.

Think about point 8 again. I wanted you to think about this earlier.

If you want to be a hero, you have to start with yourself.

And from there you can write good copy.

And from there you can be a good person and build your life. Copywriting is influence. You'll have many friends if you copywrite at an elite level (and apply it to your life)

And your beautiful life starts with being honest with yourself.

Your sincerity is the link between you and other human beings (who just happen to be your customers and want to give you cash....)

And you can only develop your sincerity with others, if you are honest with yourself first.

That's all for today.
