Guys its been a while since I have been consistently posting here but time goes fast when you are grinding. As you might know I do web design but over the last few months I have been starting to travel a lot more while also learning some video editing.

This will be a thread where I keep track of my progress with video editing and also to document my travels. I am a few months behind with the video I shot (editing is the harder skill) so stick with me while I catch up. Once I am better at editing I will be adding in more personal thoughts and experiences, advice on travelling and coding and just good old plain adventure! (I hope).

I am just starting (this is my first ever video) so any feedback is welcome and if you have questions about video/editing I will try answer them with my limit knowledge....

This was taken a few weeks ago when I was back home visiting my family.
I will be working on improving the quality etc as time goes on.

What is your goal with video editing?

Also, what devices and programs do you use? Are you going to get a stabilizer?

And in case you don't know, in the US, the FAA requires a drone license if you want to fly above a certain altitude. That may not be an issue since you're not in the US.

I have a few different goals. My FB group is nearly at 3,000 people - I want to connect, teach and inspire these people more. Also it is a super useful and valuable skill to add to my web design business. Videos are great for connecting and building a personal brand image.

I have a Sony RX100V, DJI Mavik, Go Pro and the IPhone 7. I am using Premier Pro for editing.

Ya I am aware, honestly I don't care too much and I am not in the US anyway.

With the 'brainwashing myself to success' thread in the back of my head, what does your daily life look like?
How much time do you spend working, and how much time do you spend enjoying life?

I've heard people say how travelling has boosted their productivity - they still have the same tasks to work on, but now there is a beach waiting a few feet away.
So to spend more time on adventure, they had to spend their now limited time on the most important tasks and eliminate every made-up-feel-good task.

Just curious how strict you are about enjoying your life (which sounds crazy once you write it down..)

Also, where are you going?
Have fun!

The cuts on that vid were really fast. Almost every cut came sooner than what felt natural, and the video gave me an uneasy feeling as a result. And then I noticed they were almost completly rhythmic, happening at the same time interval apart. I know nothing about editing video, but I'm guessing a variety of cut lengths would be better.

Cool place though, and some beautiful shots. I just want to have time to enjoy them!

My daily schedule is something like...
6/7 Wake up
Work till around 1
Gym and lunch
Work 4 to 6/7
Enjoy the evening

Every so often I will take a full day off and thats where most of my video footage comes from.
I really enjoy working so thats not the problem - it is more allowing myself time off to enjoy places.

Second edit...

This was a weekend in Cartagena, Colombia about two months ago. I was travelling with two other online entrepreneurs and ended up getting a lot of work done but of course we also had some fun. Cartagena is an amazing city for a good work and fun balance. It is quite cheap also.

Nice stuff! I like the grade and look.
Video production is my forte, so if you have any questions on editing or shooting while learning, I could probably offer some tips.

Did you visit Medellin, and how long were you in Colombia?
I have Colombia on my list of places to spend a month. Most likely around October-November.

Rob you should make an trailer/video for a fictional Fastlane movie. That would be really cool.

I lived there two years combined. Everyone loves different cities but for me Bogota was top pick. I can see why some people prefer Medellin but it wasn't my style. That being said I had a lot of fun there for short trips but it wouldn't be my pick to live. If you want travel advice let me know.

Man oh man. Must have watched this video a dozen times. The dang song was stuck in my head and I don't even know wtf they're saying. haha
Looks like an amazing place to be. What was your average daily cost living there, and are you planning to come back anytime soon?

Thanks! I spend about 3-4k a month in Colombia but it can be done a lot cheaper. It caters from anywhere from a very low budget to high end budget. I knew a guy who lived in Cali for under $1,000 a month and had a decent standard of living (not amazing but nice). For a normal set up though around 1.5 - 2k.

Ya I should be back there early next year, I already miss it. I will do more videos when I am.

@Fox Did you abandon this thread?

A little ha! I did three months in Georgia (the country) and Ukraine and now I am in Malta. I got sidetracked building my web course but next year I am planning on doing a lot of videos. I think I will be posting them in the 2017/2018 code video (they are more educational). I am sure there will be some travel in there, I already am going to Russia for new years.

Nice!
Since my last comment on this thread, I've spent two months in the Dom.Republic and arrived Medellin last week. I'll probably be here a month or two.
How's Malta treating you?

Anytime I hear Malta, I can't help remembering this skit.

I always want to do the DR but I only got to stop off for a day. I like Medellin but Bogota got my heart ha!

Malta is decent, great apartment for work and I really like the city of Valletta. One thing I need soon though is a car but my drivers license situation is all messed up from traveling so much. Once I get that down it will be great. I should do a full Malta breakdown for people on here soon.

Yeah, I imagine a car would be necessary in many parts of Malta.
I renewed my license a little earlier than required before setting out, just so I don't have to deal with a situation like that.

Don't you have online renewal options? In my state you can renew online and have it sent to any U.S. address.

@Fox Being a web dev' and web designer allow you to travel whenever you want ?
When you go on a trip, do you already got contract with your clients and do the work during the trip or you just go and wait for the customers while enjoying ?

Nice videos btw!
Thanks,
Alessio.

Without trying to sound "cool" my paper trail right now looks like an international spy ha...
- I make US dollars
- I bank that in Canadian Dollars
- I spend Euros in Malta where I live
- But I am setting up my business in Ireland
- But I have been living in Ukraine and Colombia for the last two years

When I walk into any kind of office/bank/license place it gets complicated really fast.

*edit my drivers license is Canadian and my Passport is Irish but I have no address for either. Makes it hard to switch over but I can rent a car just fine.

I am back with this. I will be doing a weekly VLOG all of 2018. Finally got the business to a place where this is now possible.

Also a weekly tutorial for web design too. If people want full travel reports on these places I can start a thread also with my thoughts on the country and tips for travelling there. Just post below and let me know if that would interest you.

Ya I have been learning on and off for a while but this is the first time I have had the chance to really commit. Posting on this forum (and then starting the FB group) has helped me a lot and I love giving back. This video was more of a holiday video but I want to make a cool coding/website channel and help others get started too. I owe a lot of my success to the posters on here who pushed me when I first got started. So hopefully over time I can make videos that inspire/guide others to get going too.

Thanks for the support.

Nice vid! Been glued to my laptop screen learning for awhile now so it's nice to see what the light at the end of the tunnel can look like.
