It is against the forum's rules. A random comment here and there is fine but enough is enough.
I never really understood that rule... Politics is intimately connected to economics. And economics is very relevant to any discussion of Fastlane philosophy (or at least, I would think so).

But I guess the rule's probably there because very rarely do people change their positions/ideology. Almost like the theist-atheist type of debates. It's just endless arguing.

Absolutely endless arguing, especially with current US politics. I wouldn't be against a contained thread for politics but it would be chaos and positive relationships would implode and resentment would develop.

I'm an independent but I have changed my positions over the last few years and ideology has shifted when worked on my scripting. I have heard that as one gets older they do tend to go towards one side and see that happening.

Welcome back. Got any updates for us?
Sheeesh! yes! A lot has happened this year. A quick summary: closed the old business (digital products ecomm) on june, started from scratch the new one right after. Finally got diagnosed with endometriosis after feeling like absolute crap for the past 4 years and that alone was a rollercoaster, and I'm getting married next year!!
How about you??
I've been trying to catch up with everything that's been going on in the forum ahah!

People can't control themselves. Politics, religion, sexuality, racial views, etc, these topics go from "Let's have a civil discussion." to "I WILL KILL YOU!" in about 3 seconds. Which is a shame, because politics is hugely important, and there are big political things going on right now. I prefer the ban on political discussions, and I've had posts removed for being too political.

As someone who has attended Mensa meetings, I relate to this headline.

Smart people, myself included, are SO FREAKING DUMB sometimes.

Getting better all the time. Short version...

Neck deep in AI. The marketing company growing slowly. The ecom business has the potential to explode in the next 12 months. Have at least two more businesses I'd like to start, but I need to pull myself out of the day-to-day of the marketing first.

Congrats on your engagement!

Hi people,

This is what reflection I did today. 11.10.24

Passing civil servant exam will not help me now or in the long run.

Data analyst job that I want to get will not help me now or in the long run.

I love my mom but her advice on career will not get me anywhere.

The only skill that needed anywhere included this town that I call HELL is SELLING.

So I think about doing something selling other people inventory.

I don't have experience except I'm currently working as a cashier in a pet shop + degree that makes me thinking I deserve something.

So I'll ask kind people here.

In your experience, how to get your first foot on people with inventory to allow you sell their products? What value exchange you did?
You can apply to sales jobs and get the interviews first.

You can only work on the opportunities that is given.

No point spending one week to figure out the ideal sales job in the ideal company and send your application email, waiting for 2 months without reply.

You can say something obvious and some brainwashed mob will show up to light you up with gasoline and burn you.

I forgot about those brokies who sell cheap cigarettes, run Walmart etc.
At least they are all famous though

Once you create your first Amazon best seller you can’t go anywhere without being recognised

The funny thing is that within any religion...folks also can't agree on how to best interpret or apply whatever Scriptures they have.

Which has resulted in the countless denominations and persecutions across the planet.

And 'deconstruction'-- which actually picked up after the pandemic. Folks getting tired of what is taught from pulpit and tired of how their religious peers treat them...so they go finding new answers. Google 'deconstruction' and you find a whole host of books and Instagram influencers with their thoughts on how to reform their personal beliefs.

And somehow it mirrors the Big Health-Alt Health dichotomy. In the same way institutional health's failures have given birth to alternatives like organic food and veganism...institutional religion's failures have led to the Richard Dawkin crowd, the Bart Erhman...and a lot more depending on how far you go.

I try to see good in this trend, that perhaps some people will use this to truly find the truth.
I think it's better to think about what one truly believes in...rather that following shit blindly.

But when people just realise they cannot trust leaders and each other as easily as before...times get dangerous when communities just cannot stay together.

Some things I found on Twitter/X last night which I felt were insightful.

Love this, thanks for the share.

Nothing more insightful than punching down on the poor.

The greatest trick MJ ever pulled was convincing us he was about problem solving, when secretly his books and this forum are just entertainment venues...

Not sure how speaking a generalized truth is "punching down" -- most people have given up. They have external locus of controls. They've bought the narrative that they are victims of capitalism (which no longer exists anyway). Indeed they are victims-- victims of their education, their expectations, their culture and victims of their corrupt government.

Entertainment solves their problems of wanting to forget. For example, take the millions of 20/30 year old losers who play video games 20 hours a day so they can shirk their responsibilities for being an adult.

I've been poor.

But I never gave up. And I never allowed the media, or my college professors to think for me.

All you Utahns are not concerned about the Wasatch fault line?

Yes, but it falls outside my Theater of Power.

It sits in my theater of awareness where I can only prepare for bad outcomes, such as quake insurance and storing essential supplies.

For starters, punching down usually has an element of truth.

That said, "most people" don't live in the U.S. nor do they live in a country that purports to be capitalistic.

I agree you should never let others do your thinking for you.

But the tweet draws the inference that poor people's chief problem is a lack of entertainment. In what world is that a generalized truth?

Wanting to forget is a symptom, not the actual disease.

Poor people's chief problem is mindset. Which is what you pointed out.

Suggesting otherwise is punching down.

Lastly, how many of those game makers or developers are actually famous? The gaming industry generates more than Hollywood, yet very few people can even name a single game developer.

Therefore, besides punching down, the tweet is false.

"Poor people don't need real solutions". Come on. You really want to stand on that as generalized truth? That's just disrespectful.

I want to thank ChatGPT for helping me spit out pages of CSS code fast and all I need to do is minor edits.

I believe the tweet to be true and false at the same time.

It's a black or white thinking post, but that's probably due to its short length. But there's not much room for complexity or grey areas in a 2 line post.

Is everyone who reads a Stephen King or Brandon Sanderson book a poor loser who doesn't want to achieve anything in life and just wants a quick escape from their miserable life? F*ck no. How do I know? I don't know... looks over to bookshelf filled with Stephen King and Brandon Sanderson novels, then back to what I'm currently working on

The problem rather lies between wanting and needing those escapes.

Imo there's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to enjoy a Marvel or Star Wars movie, or getting comfortable on your couch and spending some time in the Cosmere. The problem starts, once you need that.

So, I'm just assuming here of course, but my guess is, the tweet aims at people who need entertainment to escape their life, and is not aimed at those who want to escape it from time to time, to go on a great (fictional) adventure.

Despite all that, there are also a lot of people who simply don't know, that there's an alternative to their Scripted life, like many on here - myself included - before reading MJ's books.

I don’t think it is true that you get rich solving rich people’s problem, hence I disagree with that statement in the tweet.

The top billionaires in the world, mostly got there by selling products and services to average people. Only that can give you such a big market. Bernard Arnault is more of the exception than the norm.

But there is also element of truth that the average people (not necessarily poor people) would prefer escapism than focusing on real solution.

Just random google or using AI you can find global alcoholic beverage industry is the size of 1.6 trillion while gym membership is at best 100 billion.

The same goes for:
  • Social media
  • Movie industry
  • Big pharma
  • Food industry

All of these industries cater to "poor" people and make trillions of dollars.

I used quotes for the word poor because poverty has largely been eradicated from the first and second-world countries.

As broke as you may think you are, you live like a monarch compared to your forefathers.

Thanks to ChatGPT I found an audio version read by AI on Youtube.
View: https://youtu.be/vSt_lpWwwPY?si=m1MKqczARAXvP2E5

I also asked ChatGPT to summarize the doc:

The key takeaways from MrBeast's "How to Succeed in MrBeast Production" document include:
  1. Goal-Oriented Content: The main goal is to create the best YouTube videos, focusing on metrics like Click-Through Rate (CTR), Average View Duration (AVD), and Average View Percentage (AVP). Videos should be attention-grabbing from the start and maintain audience engagement throughout.
  2. Results Over Hours: The document emphasizes results rather than hours worked. Employees are judged based on their output and efficiency, not the time spent on tasks.
  3. Hiring A-Players: MrBeast values hiring obsessive, coachable, intelligent A-Players. B-Players can grow, but C-Players, who are just average, are not tolerated.
  4. Creative First: Creativity drives the entire production process. Employees should constantly innovate and think outside traditional approaches, focusing on content that stands out and excites both the team and the audience.
  5. Virality Factors: For a video to go viral, it must have strong visuals, engaging titles, and constant re-engagement. The "wow factor" is important—doing things no other YouTuber can do.
  6. Continuous Improvement: Each video should show improvement over the last, with constant innovation in every aspect, from camera work to pacing, to maintain excitement and audience interest.
  7. Backups and Contingencies: Always have a backup plan for critical components of production, and push through obstacles with determination.
  8. Culture Awareness: Employees must stay up-to-date with popular culture and trends, as this helps create content that resonates with the audience.
I also asked: "What are some of the finer points about video production" from the doc

Some finer points about video production, particularly from MrBeast's perspective, include:
  1. Focus on Retention: The first minute of any video is critical for viewer retention. Start with something engaging and hook the audience early to keep them watching.
  2. Creative Flexibility: Production must be nimble, with the ability to adapt content quickly to fit YouTube trends. This is key for keeping up with the platform's fast pace.
  3. Audience Expectations: Video titles and thumbnails set expectations. Failing to meet these expectations can lead to higher viewer drop-off, so the content should match what is promised.
  4. Data-Driven Decisions: Understanding metrics like Click-Through Rate (CTR), Average View Duration (AVD), and Average View Percentage (AVP) is vital to optimize content for virality.
  5. Simplify for Scale: Content should be simple enough to be understood by a broad audience, but still innovative enough to be engaging.
Good Stuff.

Did Amazon change their UX? I just clicked on a buy button and it felt.. ugly.

Is something weird happening or am I just getting better at budgeting..

I hope they roll back the UX updates too

What is these companies obsession with touching and changing shit that isn’t broken
The PO and the assistant to the regional manager had to justify to the stakeholders why they work here.

Yes, I have the same perception.

I was out of the forum for...maybe one, maybe more than two years now, I don't even know. Seen the new/"new" layout now. I've liked it a lot. Congrats for the work, and for keeping this forum active.

Cut my screen time down by 70% by using this app called Blankspaces it essentially makes a new home screen for your ios device, the text lines are shortcuts to the accompanying app. ie. "Maps" opens Google Maps.. thought you guys would dig... Here's how mine works.. (The bible quote widget is separate but free and nice)
my phone is an iPhone 11 btw...

This year I've read a lot about different countries around the world, all kinds of different stuff. Somehow I always end up on the notion of developed and developing countries. Whether those designations are of any value is a separate discussion. What is important, I think it's F*cking insane that Croatia is considered a developed country by some of those organizations.

When I was growing up we had no proper road in both of the places I lived. In my current street, until around 2010 there were 3 houses completely destroyed from the war. I vividly remember all throughout my childhood people meeting each other and asking "Are you working?". Not what are you doing, but are you working at all. I was in the capital few days ago, and I talked with a taxi driver from Nepal. He said 25k Filipinos, 25k Nepalese and 25k Indian people immigrated in 2024. That's literally 3 times the population of the city where I live now.

People from extended family went to Germany, Austria or Switzerland all the way back in the 70s to make a living. War was it's own thing. It's wild that in 30 years I'm alive, which overlaps almost perfectly with the end of the war, we got people immigrating TO Croatia. This blows my mind. I had to share this somewhere so I can unblock myself and focus on work.

We just had 20k Haitians dropped off in Springfield Ohio, a similar situation.. Lower class area, high unemployment.. Small population.. It's everywhere my dude.

Maybe my post is unclear, but I wanted to say that it blows my mind that people are immigrating TO Croatia in search of a better life. For the majority of my life, and definitely before it was exact opposite. I think your situation is referring to something else.
