You get to learn how to scale with people, processes, and technology? And you get to learn marketing? All while doing it rather than sitting in a class? All while getting paid? Well done!

Funny thing about that is my school career interviewer said I should do business studies as since I'm doing business. @Andy Black That's true.

The first interview was a business consultant guy. I told him I saw no future in this but all about learning business.
He told me that I should learn tonality & body language selling from Jordan Belfort and make irresistible offers(upsell/crossell).
Told me I need a strategy for residential and business owners.

A lot of value in what he told me. I really feel like an idiot talking to him. Made me feel that I should be more specific and think more in a numbers game.

I really feel dumb as there is so much to learn honestly
-learn referrals selling
-Learn how to make an irresistible offer
-Make an elevator pitch
-write what I'm offering on paper
-study my competitors
-know the business owners before I knock on their doors
-make brochures

I really need to learn and I feel like he is going to come out the screen and strangle me if I don't learn.

Your goal isn't to "learn". You're goal is to serve/help people, and get paid so you can help even more.

I feel like the advices that he gave me i would have known naturally.

He said something like
"Get Jordan Belfort's Tonality and Body Language course"
I dont really argee on buying his course though.

Feel like there are two types of selling now:
1) Helping people - Andy Black's style
Start helping people and sell without selling. Help people. Show them their problems and provide solutions. Help them and you'll get paid.

2)Straight Line System - Jordan Belfort style
Start using your emotional state to convince the prospect. Use your tonality and body language as part of the formula. Looping. The first four seconds. Straight line prospecting. Product, you and your company. Feel like reading his book before starting to sell. Lots of things to consider.

What does everyone think? How do you guys sell? IS your primary goal to help people or to persuade someone to buy your stuff?

Btw, sorry for not adding value to this thread anymore. Been thinking of going to tafe(vocational training) and adding value.

Whenever someone asks me: "What are you going to do in your future? Uni or Tafe?"

I will always say:" I want to help people. I'd probably do plumbing, carpentry, be a builder, electrician, and other hands on work that could benefit my community. I want to help my community and to do that, i will have to learn those skills and be qualified and start helping others"

Got this idea from @Andy Black. He talks about helping people so my answer to "What do you want to do in the future" is to help more people. Thing is, idk what skills to pick. I think hands on work like those listed above can help others as i heard it pays better than a job. I think being a builder will help people the most. Saw some people needing those kind of work around my area, thought i could help them by going to tafe or take an apprenticeship in that area.

@Andy Black am i taking your words to seriously?

I agree on What if you already know enough. I'm pretty sure i know enough so i kinda take his advice on
- See sales as a number game
- Practice my referral selling
- Create my irresistible offer - upsell/cross sell?
- Copy from the best
as a consideration.

Take everyone's words with a pinch of salt, including mine. What works for one person may not resonate with you. I'm always pushing the "help people" angle because people are so focused on their own goals or short-comings that they don't end up serving anyone. Or they do people a disservice by not getting out of their own way and engaging the market.

In this forum we all aspire to be business folks, and I contend we serve people better if we get paid for it and build a business to deliver that value at scale.

HOW we do that depends on our personalities, strengths, weaknesses, interests, etc.

I just find that if we have the right North Star then it simplifies things a lot.

Is this helping anyone?

Can I get paid to help them?

Can I get paid to help even more?

I want to help my community and to do that, i will have to learn those skills and be qualified and start helping others"

Be careful of limiting beliefs. Do you *have to* learn those skills and get qualified? There's many ways to help people and get paid doing so. Even in that scenario, maybe you generate leads for those businesses and help home owners too. No need to be qualified in a trade then. Don't mix up what you're doing and why with any given way how.

convince the prospect
I personally don't like this phrase. I prefer to think that "sales is a screening process". I'm not here to convince anyone of anything. My mindset is "This is what I do. This is how we do it. These are some of our results. It may or may not work for you. Reach out if you need any help. Best of luck."

One of my "bucket list" business ideas or passion projects is to help youngsters (and others) untangle themselves. Your questions and your other thread have just affirmed that.

Going D2D rn.
Rn Australia is in a very bad position. Electricity bills went up to 20-30% and we are expecting a recession with the upcoming interest rates.

First person was affected by this, wanted inside and outside for $50 for 3 windows and some extras which I can't do cuz it's more than 2hrs so I rejected. It's so sad seeing people getting affected by the economy. It's sucks

Got some doors saying no salespersons, do I just give them flyers? Do I knock? Lol I haven't done d2d for a long time

Did you ask them for a referral? If they referred you to a good client, you may have been able to do the job for their price based upon that trade. What else did they have to bring to the table? What could they do for you? How could you make it work?

I do a lot of "horse trading".

I just traded some rent for a good Conex. We signed the agreement last night. She's cleaning out her stuff and we'll move it with our crane on the 15th. It will go right next to the one we are using for materials storage.

Today I made a trade for a tenant to move out this coming weekend in exchange for me not having to formally evict that family. He won't have the eviction on his court record and I won't have to file and then wait for the court to rule on it. It is faster and easier for everyone. And we hugged after we made the agreement. I've known him since he was a little boy and now he has 2 kids.

Yesterday I traded some fresh rhubarb out of my patch for a delicious homemade cake. And they are gonna pick it.

I'm trying to tell you that money is only one of the forms of payment. A creative person can really make some interesting deals.

So if they can't really pay out, I could ask them for some cake or anything I return? Maybe some sandwich and coffee too?

18 doors in and 3 ph no. In and I'm feeling very sad. No sales.

This feel like shit. I feel like everyone hates me and feel like a pest.

People rejections are getting in to me now (this is what happens when you don't go d2d every week) I feel like shit.

Maybe because my bad family relationships are getting in to me and need an actual friend to comfort me. Feel like crying ngl.

Probably need to watch Josh lester videos and learn his techniques.
Now is school holidays 2weeks and I feel like I could print out some flyers and deliver them and go storefronts in the weekdays.

Ngl I feel like getting a job would be better than this. Now feeling shit

I don't even know how @piano and @Subsonic can keep going.

Hey man, you got to know people don’t mean to hurt you, they said no, they dont see you as a pest. They probably see you as a confident, nice kid. They may have been rude because you never know, they could have been fired by the boss. If they say no, just say thank you for your time. Something else you can do is give them a little piece of candy. Just be the nicest person you can be. Remember, be the reason why someone smiles.

Yes, I know it sounds laughable but let me tell you a story about my grandfather...

I came from a very rural area and closed society. It was all a long time ago. My grandfather and great-grandfather were both optometrists in that area. They had an office and they went from town to town fitting glasses for people a few days per week. I never knew my great-grandfather who had died young, but I knew my Grandpa well. He never kept books of who owed him. He charged what he thought people could pay rather than having set prices. He was also the town mayor where we lived.

No one locked their doors. We would come home with him. There would be a ham, a side of beef, a lug of apples or tomatoes, or something of value set inside his pantry. I asked my Grandpa where it came from. Who had brought that food? He'd say, "Oh, I don't know. Someone owed me something." A lot of his practice was paid in trade. He died very young from a massive heart attack. He was so loved. For 20 years after he died, people were still putting food and other goods into my Grandma's pantry.

Every year when the kids started school, Grandpa tested every first grader's eyes. If the kid's family couldn't afford to buy needed glasses, Grandpa gave that kid his glasses. There was a man from our town who became a rocket scientist in the NASA program. He visited us regularly when I was a kid. Every time, he sat my brother and me down to tell us the story. Grandpa gave him his first pair of glasses when he started first grade. He believed that all his success was based upon that gift that allowed him to learn to read.

Grandpa taught me a lot about the art of trading and the true value of work.

I have door knocked on thousands of doors over the years. Even today my husband asked if I must talk to everyone. I smile and tell him yes. Meeting people is an art and an acquired taste. Get good at it, and that skill will carry you for the rest of your life.

I see. Maybe if they can pay the prices that I want, maybe I can ask them to give me something in return to compensate the owed price. That makes sense. I'll be helping people out and getting something in return even though they can't really pay out.

Thinking about today. Got some people write down my phone number.
One of the house I went in and I thought that all interior and exterior should be 200 even though I rounded up to 160. I guess I got too greedy as he said that my price was high. I didn't want to loop him(I need to learn how to loop) as it was an old couple so I left.

I feel like my humour has been gone that's why I didn't made enough sales. I wasn't really entertaining, I almost sometimes look at their eyes for too long. Probably need some time to rest? Pretty stressful lately from family problems

I'm really thinking about distributing flyers and going to storefronts in the weekdays. Maybe d2d in weekends, morning, afternoon and evenings. @piano do you knock on residential even though you know cleaning under hot sun is not good? Do you knock on doors that says no salesperson?

Well it's just a numbers game.

Knock on at least 100 doors before being sad or happy. Imagine you had a 5% close rate. You'd literally be stopping 3 feet from gold.

Remember they don't reject you, they reject your offer. They don't know you as a person. They only see a guy coming to their door asking to clean their windows.

Perhaps you can make cleaning actually fun? I don't know you, but perhaps simply letting go and making goofy jokes is something you like or feel good with. If you carry the right vibe, a lot is possible.

I go everywhere despite the weather (unless it's raining a lot). Hot sun? Yeah, it sucks, however is still possible, especially when you can utilise the double-handed technique (Squeegee and Scrubber in both hands). No soliciting signs? There really aren't that many, so I'm staying away from those.
Many salespeople knock anyways on those (Josh Lester too) however you probably shouldn't if you can't stand your own ground yet.
Remember they don't reject you, they reject your offer. They don't know you as a person. They only see a guy coming to their door asking to clean their windows.
I disagree.
While it is a great mindset to have about rejection, it imo doesn't portray selling properly.

You have Bob. He goes to the door and quotes it 100€ after a bit of time. He seemed nervous during it. He also stutters and doesn't seem very confident.

Now you have Amir. He greets ya and notices your new flowers you planted. He likes them, how sweet. Anyways he tells me that he'd do my windows for a 100€. He looks like he's doing this daily for 8 hours.

Who do you buy from?

They don't buy your offer, they buy you (selling is emotional).

When I was door-knocking, I went out rain or shine. Rain was an advantage. They'd ask why I was out in the rain. I'd shrug and tell them it was my job. And sometimes, they'd invite in. It was golden. I always had a message for them so I didn't pay attention to any signs that said no salesperson. I'd say something like, "Who me?" and go on with my pitch. Their sign says that they cannot handle salesmen so I had a better chance of converting them.

I kept track of my numbers. I knew exactly how many on average would say yes out of how many attempts. I was always trying to up my odds.

Hey guys, it's a school winter holidays that means I will get 2 weeks off from school. Planning to go storefronts today and now I have a question to answer:

1)Should I get my business registered? Get an ABN(Australian Business Number) and get it verified so I can send invoices to the storefronts? I mean, I thought this would be a learning experience and I didn't thought about the ABN part or making my business legit. Should I make it legit if I want to learn first hand on business?

I really feel that I'm overthinking about stuff. My friends are coming together playing basketball, people having fun with their friends and I'm here thinking about my window cleaning business. Feeling left out, could have joined my friends and have fun. Lol, I feel like playing with my friends is useless. Feel like playing basketball or just having fun in general is useless. Feeling overwhelmed, maybe it's just me.

My goal is to learn business. Sure jobs are there and I'm considering it. My goal is to learn business first hand and now I'm thinking about registering it to make my business legit so storefronts can invoice me and see me legit enough to do business with me. Should I just go to storefronts with my equipment? Just do it and don't worry about invoices and all that shit?

Feeling overwhelmed, maybe it's just me.

My goal is to learn business. Sure jobs are there and I'm considering it. My goal is to learn business first hand and now I'm thinking about registering it to make my business legit so storefronts can invoice me and see me legit enough to do business with me. Should I just go to storefronts with my equipment? Just do it and don't worry about invoices and all that shit?

If you can get a license, I would. You never know when or how you'll be able to use it.

I've been working just about every day since I was 11 years old. It's really set me up for life. I learned a lot. I had an adult life before any of the kids around me. Now, when I meet up with them, they tell me that I'm just lucky to have a comfortable life. I nod and tell them they might be right. I do my best to fly under the radar. I left them behind long ago, but it would be stupid for me to rub it in. They're still struggling with car payments, credit cards, and empty pockets. Now many are retiring on social security incomes alone. They don't equate business and financial success with hard, smart work habits.

I did the same with my boys. When they were kids and said they needed money for school, I replied that they needed a job. They washed windows and did chores for their money. I made them half-sheet fliers to go out and find their jobs. They used my ladder, paper towels, and cleaning materials. My older son is now 52 and he starts every conversation today with what he is doing. Those early jobs have made them self-sufficient, proactive adults.

Are you saying that if I go to those "No salespeople" houses and just be kind and be the nicest person ever to them + giving them candy as a way of saying thanks, that I will have a high chance of converting them?

Just a little kind words and being the nicest person in the neighbourhood even though I can meet people that just goes like "omg seriously"? Just making them go "thank you" or bring them a sense of happiness or like what I like to call it "A sense of humanity in this shit world"

Make people happy and brighten up their day? Nice, not only will I learn d2d but I will learn how to make people happy.

I'll do it. Bringing people joy and making them a little bit happier since our economy is shit rn. People could use some of that happiness and smile

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. They can't handle salesmen and they are actually silly enough to put out a sign saying that. If they point out their sign, you can shrug and say you didn't see it. And you honestly don't see that sign the way they think you should. Hand them your candy and a card or flier. And thank them for their time. Then ask for an order.

I always approach people with a light heart. I want them to like me and trust me. I'm friendly and kind. When someone is angry or rude, I just wish them a good day. Then I move on to the next person. I figure they are having a bad day or they don't know how to act properly. It's not my job to correct or criticize them. And I don't make my attitude contingent on them being nice to me. That's their problem. Sometimes I actually laugh when they are rude. Maybe they didn't learn to play nice with the other kids in the sandbox when they were in kindergarten.

I am trying to tell you that you are 100% in charge of your attitude. I believe that you must be cheerful. You don't have to be happy, BUT you must be cheerful with other people. You owe it to yourself and everyone around you. Bad attitudes are contiguous like a common cold.

That seems like a great idea to implement. Definitely gonna try that went i go d2d, this idea really sounds like it could set a great first impression too. Thing is, now im worried about where to find candies lol. Do i just give candies to the grandmas too?

I'm probably gonna go d2d in weekdays after like 5pm(where people finish work) and see if i can get sales then see if i can work in the weekends/weekdays if possible

I see it like this: Being kind and polite costs you nothing. While being angry and rude can cost you everything. You can't ever recover with that person. So, be cheerful and keep on meeting people. It's a skill that will carry you for the rest of your life.

So its about selling with positive vibes.
-You're not only selling them your services, you're also making them laugh ->Giving great first impression

-You're making them feel something, a positive emotion. People who associate positive feelings with you will more likely give referrals.

ngl i think that it's my job to make people feel better. Bring the positive vibes to this cruel world and make people a little bit more happier. Not only am i selling better, im providing happiness to the world. That's great! I always thought sales were straightforward but i didn't know its about making people a bit more happier and relax

It's called developing charisma. It's not inborn. It is a set of learned behaviors and a deep understanding of human nature. Those are coupled with a pleasing attitude. You can develop the ability to make other people feel good about themselves as well as being around you. You can become magnetic to others.

Btw when I go to Facebook, I can see a lot of this "cleaning services" and "residential cleaning services" in Facebook. People are posting ads for their cleaning services like lawn mowing, gutter cleaning, rubbish removal, window cleaning, general cleaning, car detailing etc.

I was thinking of maybe learning some digital advertising and helping them as I feel like there is a lot of cleaning services in my area. Idk learn some Facebook ads and see if those little small business owners want some advertising or digital marketing

Should I get my business registered? Get an ABN(Australian Business Number) and get it verified so I can send invoices to the storefronts? I mean, I thought this would be a learning experience and I didn't thought about the ABN part or making my business legit. Should I make it legit if I want to learn first hand on business?

I'd focus on going out there and selling until you're doing like $1000 per day or hiring other people to clean for you. Yes, giving out invoices will make it easier to close stores, offices, warehouses, etc that need cleaning.

But that's for B2B, which you shouldn't prioritize right now. I'd focus on making some good money from residential first.

I was 15 recently. Actually, I was 15 a good 10 years ago, but it honestly feels like yesterday.

Now, unlike you, I only began being interested in entrepreneurship at 18, and between 16 and 18 I partied a lot, met my first girlfriend, etc. A lot of exciting teen stuff.

So I'd definitely recommend to NOT miss out on some of those experiences (but don't be dumb about it).

But at 18, before I even graduated high school, I was already taking action and making money while everyone else was panicking about what subject to major in, partying, and riding high on that social media life (trust me, the cool kids' popularity fades away quite quickly when people suddenly have more things to worry about than counting likes on their photos).

Let me tell you that now, 6+ years after graduating HS, the majority of my friends and acquaintances are, for lack of better words, broke losers:

– More than half are currently unemployed

– Most of them do not have girlfriends (the "IDGAF cuz I smoke weed bro" attitude only works to impress in high school... and even then it still falls short)

– None are brave enough to start a business or a side hustle. Even though I've always been very open about my journey, my failures, and my successes and sought to help them set bigger goals and follow up on them, they feel MUCH more comfortable hanging out in the local parks smoking weed and playing cards until 3 AM

– They're broke as hell. They still live with their parents and only keep talking about what they want while working dead-end shit jobs for 2-3 months a year and then spending what little money they have on weed, beach vacations, and gambling

– They talk about money and life like they've got everything figured out but it's just a circlejerk of "yeah, this country sucks and you can't make good money here" and/or bragging about getting a €7.50/h job at a DHL warehouse in a foreign country 2000km away from home

– They chase after "easy" money and do not understand the concept of adding value to others. They look for jobs where "you don't really do anything 95% of the time" that pay minimum wage. That's how ambitious they are

Now, I do have another friend group from high school that ALL pursued careers in the tech industry.

Most of them are programmers/coders in some form and the most successful one amongst them works for Amazon where he gets paid mid 6-figures. Unsurprisingly, he would only seldom hang out with the others and spent most of his time studying.

But to cut a long story short...

In just a few short years from now, you'll be LIGHT YEARS ahead of your friends EVEN if you just kept doing what you're doing now.

And you don't really have to "learn business". You already know the basics of business and are applying them!

Plus, you have MASSIVE balls to be doing what you're doing at 15. So even though your confidence is shit now, in just 2 or 3 years you'll be a F*cking badass.

I promise you, you have NO idea how awesome your life will be in the near future if you just keep this up. Girls will be all over your future confident self, too.

Just keep going and don't be afraid to share your failures here—we all go through our own on a regular basis. This includes feeling like you want to quit.
