A note for new attenders : reflections from my first Beer and Pancakes meeting.

1. Arrive early and stay late. (for the weekend, for meetups, for all of it)
2. Attend ALL meetings, and all social functions possible.
(both of those will fall under "do as I say and not as I do" as I am an old man and relatively antisocial. But, you will gain the most by a fully immersive experience. You will learn a ton from ALL the presentations, even the ones you don't think you are interested in. And if someone crashes and burns during their presentation, you can even learn from that. You will be surprised that a lot of your favorite takeaways and possible life changing moments may come from a conversation over lunch, or a discussion at the golf simulator event. Don't skip them.)

3. Mingle. Not like a dating mingle (although there will be people there who think that's what I am talking about) but intentionally seek out new people, and engage them. Some of the discussions amongst the old timers is the fact that they are there to meet YOU, not necessarily hang out with the old school. So engage. One of my favorite memories from my first B&P is when I had breakfast with @jon.a and his (far) better half.

4. Don't be star struck. Aside from @Arrabista, @Chitown @Likwid24 and @MJ DeMarco, there aren't any rockstars in attendance. We're all just people who put their pants on one leg at a time (except @GlobalWealth and you really don't want to see that).

5. Don't judge. At the first meet-up, I spent a half hour on a soap box telling a newbie all about how he should be running his business. He took it all in, and I was happy to oblige with my superior intellect. Only found out a few days later that he could buy and sell me. His business was (and is) awesome. He was there to learn, and apparently I thought I was there to teach. I vow for this weekend to listen way more than I talk, and try and absorb as much of what is happening around me. I made a fatal and legendary mistake by talking when I should have been listening. It's not that I shouldn't have engaged, but I forgot that everyone has something to contribute. See if you can find it in each conversation you have.

I envy the first time attenders, as your eyes are about to be opened to the company you chose to keep. I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can (although I have some other business I will be attending to that will tear me away at times) but this is an all in, all immersive experience and I hope you can do each of the above 5 points, and you will walk away with a new perspective on your business and hopefully your life. Go get it.

Summit Ticket Holders!

An event has been added to the Fastlane Summit in February...

Friday, February 19th, 7pm - 11pm: Networking Buffet at Top Golf, Scottsdale (Walking distance) -- hob nob/network with your Summit Group for 4 hours, shoot some balls, drink some merriment...

Included with this is a snack buffet (looks like Chicken or Beef sliders, chips, soda, water, tea, etc.)

TICKET HOLDERS: This EVENT IS INCLUDED in your ticket price. However, liquor/beer is not included.

If you are LOCAL and want to attend this event, or have a significant other who wants to join you (who isn't attending the main summit) another separate ticket must be purchased for $40 to attend. This is also under our cost for the renting out the venue and having them cater some grub. That ticket is here:

I've given a lot of speeches in my life. Most of them were out of an obligation to an employer, a trade association, or to advance my professional career.

This one is different. This one is because I want to deliver on a promise to give you something you can use the rest of your life. This one is… Because I can.

I'm not a great speaker, but I plan to deliver you a great message none the less.

See you all in February.

OK, a few more.

6. Be transparent. We're way more interested in where you are heading than where you are at. It's ok to be real. It's OK that you're not at the top of the mountain. As long as you are climbing, we'll climb with you.

7. Be careful. We don't know all of the people there personally. We can't vouch for at least half of the attendees.

8. Don't be an a$$. There aren't points for challenging the speakers just for the sake of debate, as has on occasion been the case in the past. Absolutely engage, ask questions, and disagree if your disagreements are fact based. There's nobody that has been selected to speak that can't handle a give and take. Just be respectful, don't ask drunk questions, and don't be over the top. Keep in mind the speakers all volunteered because they feel they have something to share with you. Let thanks be the first words that come from your mouth. And, expect the audience to intercede if your question is over the top.

To give some of the newbies a little insight into all of these shenanigans there's a couple things you need to realize:

1.) Most of the people in your/our lives don't understand being an entrepreneur. Your family, your "friends", your co-workers, your teachers, your extended family, the guy down the street, the clerk at the store -- NONE of them understand who you are or what you're trying to do.

2.) When you get into a room full of people who actually understand this -- not just intellectually, but emotionally, mentally, physically -- all of it -- you form very tight bonds and friendships.

3.) Most of us live around the world and travel constantly -- this is the one time of year we can all get together and see each other. This is family for us so you'd better believe we are all overly giddy to see each other. Yes, we party hard and we have a hell of a lot of fun; yes we want you to do the same as your initiation into the family -- but you better believe the next morning we are all ready to take notes and grow our business -- because that's where our passion lies.

I've said it before in my talks (and I'm not the only one) -- the fastlane family is one of the most important things to me in my life -- and when you get into the "inner circle" you'd better believe that you'll become one of the most important people to me and everyone else at this meetup.

There's a lot of new people coming so yes, we'll be a little skeptical at times and maybe even stand-offish. Don't take offense to this. Look at Vigilante's notes above and you'll be just fine.

Bonus points if you bring advil and gatorade in the mornings.

I've gotta say, 2 days before leaving for the Meetup, I'm finally relieved.

When I made the commitment to go, I had ZERO cash for this trip and 8 wks to make it happen. Property taxes were due and business at the hardware store was shit (no snow) .... hours cut.

Besides the Meetup, I wanted to give my Wife, who works so hard, some vaca time.

So after busting my a$$....Lodging, car rental, flights, taxes (horseback riding for the Wife)....everything is paid for with spending money to spare. So 5 full days in the Valley and 2 full days in Sedona.

I am so very much looking forward to meeting all of you.

And as far as this childish play...I have 3 words.

Poop, Fart, Boogers.

The thing is... I can get my butt there.

I just can't get my butt back home. ha

In other words, it would be a one-way trip.

Which is fine with me, really.

For the record, I was actually willing to do that (leave everything and go one way) just so I could attend the Summit.

I figured if I'm going to go that far, I might as well stay :)

Radical, I know.

Scottsdale is more than a place to go to. It's the very place that is responsible for changing your entire life! </hyped up marketing jargon>

I did what you thought about doing....twice.

I drove that one way from North Carolina to Scottsdale (because I couldn't afford to go back).

Actually, after doing that twice, I later learned that it was really that I couldn't afford NOT to go. If I choose to stay the same and didn't become that change I was waiting for in my life....my life would probably still be the same as it was for the last 4 years....think about it.

The first time, I went with $250 to my name and nowhere to live. Then after I got there, I found a way to make it work. The second time, I slept in my car next to a hotel dumpster the first night being there (it might have been a nap for 30 minutes... but the first way of saying just sounds more powerful)....but either way, the second time - I couldn't afford to go back either. But by the second time I did it, I didn't ever want to go back.

In the end, it's not Scottsdale that will change you - it will be yourself.

I'm not saying to go to Scottsdale on a whim like I did... I'm simply saying...I'm confident you can find a way to make it work in the next few days.

Guess who was the poor chump who had to follow @Arrabista last year? Slide deck and all. :p

There is a small chance we may not make it, but trying to convince the SO otherwise. Thanks to @Red for organizing *AND* stepping up for the ladies!

Anne ! Would love to see you there .!

I am genuinely looking to play a part and add value in this fantastic line up. Amazing Amazing line up!

@Mj and Red - thanks for giving me the opportunity to participate again.

For all of you whose sphincters are tightening knowing you will be after me in a presentation - please relax!

Everyone one of you has a unique communication style.

Just remember my whole purpose is to add value to your communication style so that you can be more effective in any face to face communication scenario .

I will be opening a metaphorical "tool kit" and offering you more "tools" and hacks to influence your audience whether its 1 or 1000 people and achieve the outcomes you seek.

You and you alone are your own best presentation tool ,trust me on this!

As time is limited and if you have questions that you would like to ask me pls make sure you come and see me during the conference and I will be more than happy to help you in any way I can :)

Apologies , if i have not posted much but I am back in the UAE at very short notice working on their National Day Celebrations, I wish this was as organized as this fast-lane meet up!

See you all in Feb

Hey All-

Just a reminder: I could use a volunteer for the BulletProof Coffee station! :) You don't have to know how/what, just be willing to learn & it's super simple.

We'll be doing BP coffee from 7am - 8am each morning (no blending during presentations that start at 8am), so there's a time commitment. Sobriety for this position is preferred, but not required, so @GlobalWealth, don't be afraid to speak up!

Job requirements:

Show up at 7am.
Understand the concept of a blender.
Be able to wield a knife without harming yourself or others.
Smile.

Please & thank you! :)

7am ... why so late at night?!

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted quickly say I am looking forward to meeting everyone.

I also just want to briefly re-introduce myself as I haven’t been on this forum much lately and haven’t posted much in the past as I am pretty private person in general.

I was fortunate enough to find out about the forum about a year after it first started (2008) and was able to witness the growth of this community that MJ created. I have also had the pleasure to witness the humble beginnings of many of you and know how hard many of you have worked to get to where you are.

A little about myself. I’ve had some successes and I’ve had failures but over all I am doing ok :) I wish my story had more dramatic twists and turns and life events but my story compared to many of you is probably pretty boring. I’ve never slept in cars or took a dramatic life changing trip (for those who have, I have so much respect and admiration for you). I have however, toiled through many hours, tried many things, and have experienced many heartbreaks when things don’t quite go your way.

I currently work (yes work I know) as a solution architect/consultant for one of the bigger cloud software companies. Its actually work I enjoy and is a resting stop as I figure out the next steps of what I want to do next.

In the past, I’ve had my own software consulting company for about 7 years, ran an online store with my wife for a little while and have done a decent amount of real estate investing by myself and also with others (some here) in syndications, notes, flips, etc.

I have a pretty comfortable life...probably too comfortable and that’s part of reason for going to this conference.

I want to pre-thank the organizers and presenters as I know you all are taking valuable time from your businesses and family to give your knowledge and experiences to random people you don’t quite know. I just wanted to say thank you and it is much appreciated.

I am looking forward to meeting and connecting with you all.

When I said that I'd be at the Summit come hell or high water, I really didn't mean to invoke the wrath of the gods o___O

There has been so much fighting and wheeling and dealing with my day job (see: :banghead:) trying to make sure that I'd be able to get to the Summit, I just can't even... but I'm going to make it just by the skin of my teeth! There was just no way I was going to let this opportunity pass me by.

The moral of the story? I'm not in control of my life... yet. These last few months have made that abundantly clear. But that's going to change and I am so excited to learn.

I can't wait to meet all of you next week! Safe travels!

Just my gut feeling here, in the past this event sold out within an hour HOWEVER, tickets were cheaper and the number available was only 30 or so.

This event is a little more costly and has 3X the ticket allocation so I don't expect there to be a problem with people getting tickets. The event is not advertised anywhere either, so if you've been patiently waiting and watching the appropriate threads, I don't expect any issues with ticket availability.

But I guess we shall see.

Technically we sold out in about 18 minutes. I ended up having to add to the ticket pool so now I think there are 8 tickets left.

It took 14 pages for this to spiral into the gutter. I think that's a new record in self-restraint. Bravo, guys.

Thanks to @passion518 for the new member intro before coming to the summit!

https://www.thefastlaneforum.com/community/threads/re-introduction-going-to-summit-meetup.64262/

Also, @Wisith.

https://www.thefastlaneforum.com/co...rom-los-angeles-will-be-at-2016-summit.64144/

If I missed any newbie introductions and you will be attending the Summit, please drop a link in this thread to your intro.

Also, if you will be attending the summit and have NEVER posted an introduction, you are going to want to follow the lead of @passion518 and @Wisith and post one now in the forum introductions area, but put something about the Summit in the headline so we know who you are!

If you are coming to the summit and you're new and haven't posted an intro, it will be awkward for you... so please get it done!

I'm heading out to get Bulletproof Coffee supplies this morning! Sprouts & Whole Foods are about to get cleaned out...

I'm really excited to see you all!!!

There are two big trips I am going on this year that did not fit into my budget or my schedule.

This is how I do things, lol. You just have to book the tickets/make the reservation. Once you do that, you are symbolizing the faith you have in yourself to make it happen... then, surprise, surprise... you make it happen.

After much trial and tribulation, I got mine! The internet at my j.o.b tried to shut me down, but the power of mobile data saved the day.

See you there!

Score another one for the ladies! Yah!
