Want a surefire way to know if tasks you're doing are an action fake or real work?

If the work you're producing isn't generating FEEDBACK, it's an action fake.

Because FEEDBACK has consequences.

As I wrote in my last two books, define THE SHORTEST PATH to your first customer, or your first pre-sale (before the product is built) -- anything outside of this spectrum, is an action-fake.

I don't know where I got this line from but I try to bear it in mind:

"Start as close to the end as possible."



An example...

Action faker:

I make sales by getting into conversation with people.

Let me create a landing page with a lead magnet and get people onto my email list where I'll send 5 automated emails to get them to book a call with me.

I'll post content on Facebook/LinkedIn and drive people to my page so they signup.

Hopefully some will book a call after my automated email series.

Now to buy a domain, create a logo and landing page, create a lead magnet and autoresponder series.

Hmm... what shall I create the website with? What email service provider should I use? What should go into my auto responder series? I'd better buy a book on email marketing so I can get into conversation with people.




Starting closer to the end:

I make sales by getting into conversation with people.

I'll post content on Facebook/LinkedIn my ideal prospects will like and DM those who engage.

I'll DM my ideal prospects.

Maybe if you’re going from 0 to 1, as until you get feedback you don’t even know if you’re building the right thing, but there’s lots of valuable work you can do operationally in an established business that isn’t customer facing and you will never get feedback on and that is not an action fake.

For example: negotiating with freight vendors to reduce freight costs 10% and adding 2% to your gross margin. What feedback does that generate?

A example of action faking that i was doing few weeks ago

Learn facebook ads in and out and use that for my online business

but i changed it to this:
Learning and implementing what i have learned in the ads that i run for my business and pivoting as needed.

If you are learning a skill and thinking ill learn i complete first then take action stop that and just start taking action learn along the way

Action faking is the taking actions that are not related to the Critical Path to which is by getting your first customer, but this could br hard if you don't even have a product in the first place to sell meaning you are in the development stages of actually building one or in the freelance stage, by just finding your first paying client.
