I don't even know where to begin. This weekend was unfathomably inspiring and so surreal. Putting the people behind the usernames makes a huge difference now. Meeting and being a part of the fastlane family is the best thing that’s happened to me in a long time.

I feel like I've made so many lifelong friends this weekend alone than I ever have. So many like-minded people all in one place and meeting many great friends each day was a bit overwhelming but in a positive way.

Climbing Massacre Grounds Trail was fun with @Greg R , his wife @Water @jimmeboy and @UnrealCreative . I uploaded some pictures of the epic adventure.

Huge thanks to @Eskil , @MJ DeMarco and @Red for the whole event. Amazing work!

It was great to finally meet @biophase. I've been following your posts for months and they are nothing but helpful. @G_Alexander thanks so much for the awesome advice. I am taking it very seriously and have started to do research and coming up with a game plan for this year. Thanks for picking your brain @PTP about ecommerce. Its great to see you're so humble! Great to shake @Vigilante's hand and finally meet the legend. It was cool hanging out with @vitality11 at the cigar bar, thanks for the tips and let's go on this journey together! Let's stay in touch. Cool meeting you and hanging out with @Envision. We'll definitely do Scottsdale proper next time haha. I'm skipping so many people.

Nice to have met you over lunch @AnneC and your crazy adventures with Kenrick haha. Cool to always meet another gamer. Awesome having dinner with @ZCP, your stories are always welcome and entertaining. @The Alchemist! Who knew you were from Belgium! Good to hear you got home safely as well @Magneto C. Inspiring stories from @million$$$smile, what a journey. Thumbs up for @Arun Siva for dropping overseas manufacturing wisdom over dinner. And @Ravens_Shadow! Excited to partake a possible VR partnership!

It's also great to finally be able to shake hands and meet people in person that I have been talking to for years.

@The Alchemist was there??

I think I met you, but didn't make the connection to the username.

I remember that solid amazon thread from a couple of years ago.

Would love to see an update!

I just want to meet the guy behind the trash talk. ;)

So you can put a face to the name, here's a recent picture of me. Hopefully that'll be sufficient until we meet next year (or sooner).

I always hate that I didn't manage to connect with more people, but it doesn't take too many conversations before my brain is mush. However, whether we had a chance to chat or not, if I can ever help any of you out, please feel free to reach out.

Also, here's a VR collage! We didn't get a pic of everyone, but it was great to help all of you try something new. HTC should be giving me commission on the new VR converts hehe.

We aren't, at least at a rate commensurate of the time invested. The payback is seeing everyone rejoice in their new knowledge, their new relationships, and their experience.

I'm yet to get the casino's bill so I'm holding my breath and hoping to be in the black. We should be OK if our estimates and budgets are within 10% of expected.

There's a great benefit to having it at the TSR casino, it's lively, lots of places to socialize, it's a destination, not a dive.

But the drawback of going here is the cost: Everything is terribly expensive (the A/V setup cost twice as much as if we actually bought the equipment ourselves) and the food is ungodly expensive, especially for the quality. Coffee was $60 a gallon. Anyone get sushi? Each tiny piece of sushi was $6 bucks, and 20 people into the line it was all gone. Lesson learned. Not complaining, just trying to relay how expensive the casino charges to have events here, so it is very difficult to keep the ticket cost under $500 bucks when every other conference charges $1K, and they don't even try to feed you.

Ultimately if I could have it my way, I'd opt for the huge buffet option for everyone for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which in itself, would cost more than 2X the cost of the ticket :wideyed:, and that's not even accounting for the other costs.

In years to come, this will by our (my) challenge, to keep a high standard of execution, but to keep the ticket from becoming a bro-marketing price ($1297!)

;)
At least we got a free preview of the Jason Derulo Concert mid-summit :clench:

They make travel locks solely so customs/security personnel can open them with a special tool and don't have to break them.

That's great and all, except they sometimes can't. My suitcase had zipper pullers cut and a friendly TSA notice inside saying if they can't open it they need to break the lock and are of course not liable for any damage.

Not losing sleep over it, just a note to myself not to lock the suitcase when flying to the next summit ;)

I regret not giving this a try. Looks terribly addictive, perhaps too much so.

Seriously - you should come over to my house one of these days and I'll have you try the Oculus Rift (while your gf and my wife can talk about dogs, lol). Once you have experienced good and proper VR (not the cheap cardboard / mobile phone headsets) - you will be amazed by the possibilities it offers.

Now that things have settled a bit & I have caught my breath, I wanted to write up my thoughts as well....

These events are always incredible. My only lament (which mirrors just about everyone else's) is that I didn't get to spend more time with more people & get to shake the hands of more newcomers.

Thanks to all the ladies who showed up. Thanks to all the guys who were awesomely respectful & welcoming to those ladies. I truly appreciate that this has been made into a space that is welcoming, supportive & protective of all. Both online & in person.

Thank you to those attendees who offered to lend a hand where you saw one was needed.

Thank you to those who spoke, I picked up at least one tidbit from every. single. presenter. And often, quite a bit more.

Thank you for the feedback, the write-ups on this thread & the input for how to make things even better next time around.

For those of us who never had supportive friends or family, for those of us who never quite felt like we had a tribe, and for those of us who never quite felt understood, I'm thankful for all of you.

Apparently, even an ENTIRE WEEK wasn't enough time to meet everyone and catch up with people.

I've always described B&P / Fastlane Summit as my favorite weekend of the year. Each time, it exceeds my expectations. This year was no exception.

To @MJ DeMarco , @Red , @AllenCrawley @Eskil - Thank you for all you do to put on the Summit every year.

A special shout-out to my ladies (because we know how alienating the ratio is!) @Jill and @Red - Love you gals, and I treasure all of the adventures we've shared over the years.

To my housemates - Thank you for abiding by the "Strict, No A**holes" policy. I cherish our deep, honest, and often, incredibly vulnerable conversations until 5AM. Thank you for your trust and openness.

To everyone I've met throughout the years, even if we didn't have time to connect at the event - I am grateful for and humbled by your friendship. It's a true honor, and many of you have crossed the line from friends into family.

Thank you to all, and much love.

Yeah talking to everyone was hard. I wasn't expecting that.

Next time I'd like to lead up some event a full day before or after and I'd like it to be part of the lineup of events if that's OK.

That might give people the expectation to fly in earlier or stay later to do more networking. Maybe it's an unofficial hike or get together at someplace like Skylanes, but the important thing it's in the event lineup when tickets go on sale ( of course not paid for by the conf ).

I don't know much about the Scottsdale area, so if someone that lives there can fill me in on good things I can plan something at least when the time comes around next year.

I made the mistake of doing my plane and hotel tickets the day I bought my event ticket, so I kinda missed out on planning coming in earlier and staying later once the pre/post event thread popped up about activities. I should have known better, but I didn't.

This might give me and others a chance to talk to more people and just expect to stay longer and know some cools things we could do.

Hell, I might do a big AirBnB next time for anyone that would like to do more networking. Maybe it's themed like just ecom people or just SaaS guys.

Just thinking of ways to get more face time in with everyone.

I think the exact opposite. Just like no one ever has enough time in the day, you'll never have enough time to have a meaningful conversation with everyone there. Id rather spend an hour with two people and 5 minutes with 12. There is no benefit to trying to meet everyone. It was only possible in the old days.

You spoke at the event, so everyone knows you now (as if they didn't before!) You are already at the top. So don't stress it. To me, the days before and after are to catch a breath and get even more real with my closest friends, it is absolutely invaluable.

This was my mistake at my first Summit. I learned to fly in at least 1 day before and 1-2 days after the event, as many people hang around. Now I typically spend at least a week in Scottsdale during the Summit.

We briefly met - you were one of the people I was hoping to get more face time with. Honestly, as Chris said there is never enough time to talk to as many people as you'd like to.

Valid, but many people I didn't even get 5 minutes with.. like you. It was just too hard.

I also missed out time with @James Fend and never even got to talk to @MJ DeMarco, etc.

I know I am missing a lot of other people. People I would have liked to talk to for an hour and some for just 5 minutes.

The people I did talk to, I loved.

Going to plan to NOT have the same thing happen next year though since I know what to expect next time.

I think what would help me, is having a list of "must have talk to" people that I need to pre-arrange. I simply did not think about this beforehand. I knew I wanted to talk to certain people, but the time just got away and I didn't plan to come early/stay late either.

All good lessons.

That's a really easy thing to fix! Just yell if you ever want to have a VR night instead of a poker night :)

And actually, at this point, it's not really that addictive. Part of it is just the quality/comfort of the hardware since these things are still really early, but the bigger part is that most of the best experiences are pretty physically demanding, at least compared to almost any other form of computer interaction. I mean, it's not like running a marathon or anything, but people end up working up a sweat without even trying. It's pretty surprising to everyone how much work it feels like they've done afterwards. People stop after a good session and are like "wow, that was amazing ... And I think I've had enough for a while" lol.

One of the many benefits of the summit was getting to hang out with like-minded folks in real life. As awesome as the forum is, there is an added benefit of getting together with folks face to face. If you don't have a local forum meetup in your area, think about starting one. But don't just post "[Area] Meetup" in the forum as the folks in your area might miss the post. Just put your area in the forum search box to see if you can find folks in your area. Then PM them to see if they are up for getting together.

A few weeks before the summit, I found a couple of other folks in the Portland area this way. When we met up, it was very much like the summit. Almost instant rapport and the conversation just flowed as we each talked about the different projects we are working on and bounced ideas off each other.

I know this won't work for many of you, but for some of you it might be worth trying, especially if you are in a more urban area in the U.S.

@splok thanks again for giving us a chance to try your VR set!

It was my first "real" VR experience and from what I have seen and experienced VR really will be a huge deal in the future.

Just had an idea. Open a game-themed gym. The console is even less expensive than bulky equipment.

@splok Thanks so much for the fun! Loooooved it!

@eliquid You don't need to know anything about Scottsdale. @splok is the only one you need to know.

There are a few VR "arcades", but I haven't seen a VR gym yet. That might be a really great idea actually! You do the work without even realizing it, and there are some interesting tricks you can do when you have complete control of the space.

If anyone is new to the VR world, you might appreciate knowing that Sony has the PS-4 Pro game system that has an optional VR headset available. I have that system because of the many VR game titles available. Content is everything.

Get the PS-4 Pro, not the plain PS-4. It's a hundred more, but it is a much more powerful system, and has an extra USB port available after everything is hooked up. Why is that important? I use it for my electric guitar, which I am learning to play using the PS-4 game "Rocksmith Remastered" which is a self paced tutoring program. Hey - video game systems can be a lot more than just a shoot em up frenzy or fast car chase.

Of course, the PC systems are better, but not by much. The rift and the vive are the ones to get. Sony, however, has some pretty good game offerings though, which is why I went that route.

This.

And then the forum conveniently serves as the perfect medium keep in touch. It works out pretty damn well!

Most important of all...when do we get our summit attendee badges?

That might take a while. That opens up a private forum, but no one really uses that any how.

a VR gym yet.

Love this idea.

Talk about a BLUE OCEAN.

VR will probably open up a lot of BLUE OCEANS.

Next time I'd like to lead up some event a full day before or after and I'd like it to be part of the lineup of events if that's OK.

Count me in as well and if you need help with anything LMK.
